Ireland's women lost 3-1 to the USA in their Champions Challenge quarter-final in Dublin on Thursday.
Two goals from Shannon Taylor and one from Rachel Dawson put the United States 2-0 ahead and Audrey O'Flynn scored a consolation for the Irish.
Gene Muller's Ireland side had qualified for the top eight after drawing 1-1 with Spain in their final pool game on Tuesday evening.
They had previously beaten Azerbaijan 2-1 on Sunday.
"We are obviously very disappointed to have lost the quarter- final," said Muller after the game.
"The USA were better than us and deserved to win.
"On Friday we face Azerbiajan in what will be a very difficult challenge both physically and mentally," added Muller.
