Ireland are still in contention for a semi-final place at the EuroHockey Nations Championships after beating France 2-0 on Monday.

Two penalty strokes despatched by John Jermyn gave the Irish victory, a day after losing their opening game 4-2 to defending champions England.

Ireland missed several chances before Jermyn scored after Mitch Darling had been taken down in the 57th minute.

Jermyn slotted home his second goal just two minutes from the end.

The result means Ireland are just one win away from a place in the last four as they chase a place at next year's Olympics.

Ireland play the Netherlands in their final pool match on Wednesday.
