Ireland made an impressive start to the Olympic qualifiers in Dublin by hammering Russia on Saturday.

John Jermyn scored a 15th minute opener at UCD and Timmy Cockram made it 2-0 before Ravshanzhon Zakirov pulled one back for the Russians.

Mitch Darling restored the two-goal advantage on 44 minutes and Ireland pulled clear with strikes from Peter Caruth, Conor Harte and Michael Watt.

Malaysia defeated Chile 4-1 in Saturday's opening match.
