Ireland beat Scotland in a shoot-out after Sunday's bronze medal match at the FIH Champions Challenge tournament in Dublin ended in a 2-2 draw.
The Scots led twice through Alison Bell and Samantha Judge but Ireland drew level, firstly through Emma Smyth and then a Niamh Atcheler penalty corner.
Ireland clinched the third place when their most capped player Nikki Symmons netted the decisive score.
On Saturday, the Irish had lost 2-1 to the United States in the semi-final.
"To finish three places above our tournament ranking is extremely satisfying and motivating for all involved," said Ireland coach Dennis Pritchard.
