Ireland's men were beaten 3-2 by Olympic champions Germany on Monday evening in the first of two games between the sides in Krefeld.

Christopher Ruhr put Germany ahead in the game which saw Ronan Gormley become the first Irishman to reach 200 caps.

Alan Sothern, earning his 100th cap, levelled for Ireland and then put the visitors ahead with four minutes left.

However, Christopher Zeller equalised before Florian Fuchs hit the winner in the last play of the game.

The Irish felt that Zeller's equaliser from a penalty corner should have been disallowed for being high and dangerous.

The teams meet again in Krefeld on Tuesday evening as Ireland continue their preparations for the final Olympic qualifying tournament in June.
