Guernsey began their quest to reach a fifth successive EH National Trophy final in style as they beat Crawley 5-0 in the first round.
Sam Dawes, Steve Waldrom and player-coach Andy Whalley were among the scorers as Guernsey put last season's loss in the final behind them.
"It's the perfect way to start," Whalley told BBC Radio Guernsey.
Meanwhile, rivals Jersey were knocked out in the first round after losing 3-2 to London Edwardians.
"I thought we were really solid at the back, we restricted them to possibly one or two chances in the whole game," added Whalley.
"Up front, five goals is a nice way to start, but on another day it could have been seven, eight, maybe 10 so there are bits we can work on in training.
"There's three new guys joined the side and they fitted straight in to what is an already solid squad, so I'm very pleased."
