The Irish squandered a number of chances in Cape Town in a game which saw Mitch Darling captain the team on his 150th international appearance.
The two teams will meet at the Olympic Games in Rio this summer.
Ireland will complete a busy schedule of fixtures with games against Belgium on Saturday and Sunday.
Ireland beat the Canadians in two games with draws in the other two while the Irish had a defeat and a draw in their games against Spain and South Africa.
The matches in South Africa are part of Ireland's preparations for their challenge at the Olympics in August.
