Great Britain's women lose Test match against Argentina

Susannah Townsend scored Great Britain's only goal of the game as they were beaten 2-1 in the first of five Test matches against Argentina on Saturday.

Townsend, marking her 48th appearance for the Olympic champions, hit the opening goal in Rosario.

Their hosts, ranked third in the world, responded with goals from Maria Campoy and Eugenia Trinchinetti.

Great Britain fielded eight debutants in the opening match in South America.

"A great team performance to start the test series tonight," captain Alex Danson wrote on Twitter.

"An extra special game with eight GB Hockey first caps."

Danson, 32, did not feature in the opening game but is expected to make her 100th appearance for Great Britain during the series in Argentina.

The sides meet four more times over the next week at the Luciana Aymar Stadium, with games on 11, 14, 16 and 17 February.
