Highly rated Henry Cecil colt Frankel secured a commanding victory in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury.
Ridden by Tom Queally, the favourite for this month's 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket was competing for the first time since October.
Unbeaten in his juvenile year, Frankel showed his long, powerful stride to win from Excelebration and Shropshire.
"He's had a good blow and hopefully that will put him spot-on for the Guineas," said trainer Cecil.
"This will have taught him something and I said beforehand whatever he did today, he'd come on for it.
"Tom said he felt about 80% today but a couple of bits of work in the build-up should get him to much nearer 100% for Newmarket."
