Third-favourite Most Improved has been ruled out of the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket by trainer Brian Meehan.
The horse, a 6-1 chance for the Classic, missed last week's Craven Stakes after being found to be slightly lame.
"The preliminary report from the vets has advised that he will not be ready," Meehan said.
Meanwhile, George Ward - one of racing's great sponsors - has died aged 79 after a short illness.
Ward is estimated to have invested about £25m into the sport through sponsorship from his photographic businesses, which included names like Bonusprint.
Racing Post Trophy winner Camelot, trained by Aidan O'Brien, is 5-4 favourite for the Guineas ahead of Top Offer (11-2). Most Improved, third in last year's Dewhurst Stakes won by Parish Hall, had been backed down from 40-1 in February.
