Frankie Dettori hopeful of riding in Epsom Derby in June

Frankie Dettori still hopes to be able to ride at next week's Epsom Derby.

Dettori, 42, had wanted to be back in action this week after serving a six-month ban for testing positive for cocaine at Longchamp last September.

But a "private matter" between Dettori and French governing body France Galop has delayed him regaining his licence.

"The matter has moved forward and we are expecting a positive result," said Dettori's solicitor Christopher Stewart-Moore.

"The latest position is that Frankie Dettori has been in France for the last two days at France Galop.

"We are hopeful the glitch has been ironed out so he can get his English licence in time to ride in the Derby."

The British Horseracing Authority will not let Dettori compete in Britain until his issues with France Galop have been sorted.

BHA spokesman Robin Mounsey confirmed they are still awaiting the relevant clearance from the French governing body.

The Derby takes place on Saturday, 1 June and Dettori hopes to be able to compete in the prestigious race, which he won on Authorized in 2007.
