AP McCoy, who has been champion jockey 18 times, is joining BBC Radio 5 live as a regular racing pundit.

McCoy, the 2010 BBC Sports Personality of the Year, will be bringing his insight from the track to the airwaves every Friday night from 18 October.

Each week he will be talking to 5 live Sport host Dan Walker about all the stories both on and off the track, and previewing the week's racing ahead.

McCoy will also front a number of special programmes on 5 live.

He said: "I'm looking forward to chatting to Dan Walker every week about the Premier League, assessing Arsenal's performance... it's a big season for them. Oh, and chatting about racing too, obviously."

Richard Burgess, BBC Head of Radio Sport, said: "It's fantastic to have AP as a regular contributor to 5 live Sport. Racing is a very important part of 5 live's sport output and this addition to our team means our audiences will get a regular insight from one of the sport's greats."

BBC Radio 5 live has an extensive racing rights portfolio, bringing comprehensive coverage of all the major meetings in the UK and overseas.

You can listen to BBC Radio 5 live and 5 live sports extra via DAB radio, online at bbc.co.uk/5live, Digital Freeview, Sky, Freesat, Virgin Media and to Radio 5 live only on 909 & 693 AM, and on mobiles via the BBC Radio iPlayer.
