Doncaster: Elm Park wins Racing Post Trophy for Andrew Balding
Favourite Elm Park was an impressive winner of the Racing Post Trophy for trainer Andrew Balding at Doncaster.
Owner Sheikh Fahad Al Thani said the 13-8 victor, ridden by Andrea Atzeni, could be a contender for the 2015 Derby at Epsom.
Atzeni, successful 12 months ago on subsequent St Leger winner Kingston Hill, had few concerns in a fine front-running display.
He won by two-and-three-quarter lengths from Aloft, with Celestial Path third.
After victory in the final Group One of the 2014 British flat racing season, Elm Park was rated at about 20-1 by bookmakers for next year's Derby.
Atzeni, who will officially take on the role of number one jockey to Sheikh Fahad's Qatar Racing operation next season, said: "It meant a lot, taking a new job - it's just amazing.
"I've won a Group Three race (in the colours) and now a Group One, before the job even starts!"
Earlier, 14-1 shot Wishfull Thinking jumped superbly under Richard Johnson to win the Old Roan Chase at Aintree for trainer Philip Hobbs.
