Horse racing does having some things going for it. All the time the Royal Family are at the races they aren't out hunting, shooting defenceless animals and showing their bravery by hunting vicious foxes armed with nothing more than a pack of hunting dogs.A pointless sport supported by completely pointless people.
Horse racing ... survives thanks to gambling ... well done horse racing.
@18 "For someone with as much talent as Richard Hughes "Yes he could certainly sit on top of a horse - a very impressive talent shared by few
Yesterdays winner, tomorrows dog food.
There must be more interesting subjects than a midget riding around in circles whipping a horse!I thought this was the sports page
Such is the way the BBC coverage has gone where Jorse Racing is concerned that we would have had more comments on here if the article had been written about Howard Hughes !! All quite sad really ....Sir Peter O'Sullevan R.I.P.... and Horse Racing died on the BBC long before he did !
There are only 20 posts on here after 2 days! No one is really interested. Can we have something else please?
@gazThe irony of your post is not lost on me...If people like you keep talking about him... what do you expect
For someone with as much talent as Richard Hughes (probably the best I`ve seen since Lester) he underachieved in the sport where he could have dominated for many years but for his own demons. Good luck for the future Richard !
Could the BBC allow more coverage of a golfer ranked 266 in the world Please? Surely there must be an archive picture of Tiger Woods standing next to a horse?
There is but it's not horseracing.
Another talented jockey retires from the sport I like, but at least unlike other sports they still can be at the top of their game well into their 40s. Just like McCoy, Hughsie is another jockey I'll surely miss. He retired too soon in my book. As a trainer, I see him doing well in the NH/Jumps sphere of racing, just like his Dad. But anyhow, I wish him well in his new journey and good luck too.
Greatest sport on TV this weekend,Rugby league challenge cup semifinals.2 great games.Richard Hughes good flat jockey awful NH jockey that's why Dessie his dad sent him here did not want him on Hardy Eustace.
Dave M , there is more to life than football
Nearly 24 hours and 11 comments later. The BBC turns it's back on Football and focuses on minority sports and look at the result. Horse racing? No one much cares after they have torn up the betting slip. Open HYS on special interest sports if you want BBC. Open one up on the charity shield and see how long it take to get 11 comments. BBC out of touch and soon enough out of the door.
A fine 21st century jockey who was well backed up by the countless runners the Hannon stable had each season, though he retires having never ridden the winner of a Derby,King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes or Arc etc...then again a mile and a half races and longer were never his stables speciality...will be remembered for Canford Cliffs first and foremost.Good Luck to him as a trainer !
