Belfast Giants complete weekend win double

The Belfast Giants maintained their position at the top of the Elite League by recording their second win of the weekend at Dundee Stars on Sunday.

After three scoreless periods, a goal by Brock McBride three minutes into overtime secured victory for the Giants at the Dundee Ice Arena.

Belfast comfortably saw off a weak Edinburgh Capitals side 8-1 at the Odyssey Arena on Saturday night.

Fife Flyers will be the visitors to Belfast next Friday night.

Nottingham Panthers, Coventry Blaze and Sheffield Steelers all trail Belfast by a point, with Nottingham and Coventry having a game in hand over the Giants.

Goals from McBride and Robert Dowd put the Giants 2-0 up by the end of the first period at the Odyssey on Saturday night.

The Giants took complete control in the middle period as Derek LeBlanc, Benoit Doucet, Ryan Crane and James Hutchinson were all on target.

Dowd struck the Giants' seventh goal and while Rene Jarolin hit an Edinburgh goal, Adam Keefe completed the rout.
