Telford Tigers have signed Marcus Maynard from Nottingham Panthers as coach Tom Watkins looks to strengthen his defence for next season's English Premier League campaign.
Maynard 25, made 51 appearances for Nottingham last season, and was part of the squad that won the Challenge Cup and Elite League play-offs.
But Watkins admitted: "I don't think he got the ice time he was expecting.
"He came to the trials and was noticed by a lot of the fans who were there."
Watkins' chief pre-season concern will be finding an alternative practice venue for his team as Telford Ice Rink is undergoing a facelift. But he must also now concentrate on filling his quota of import signings.
"I have sent out several offers to imports over the last few weeks," he said. "They will be a big upgrade over what we have had, so I hope they will tick all the right boxes.
"And Marcus coming into the side is really exciting. He adds an element that we didn't have last season. He is a big guy and learned a lot when he was with the Panthers. He is just a no-nonsense defenceman who plays hard and is a battler."
