Dundee Stars 4-1 Braehead Clan

Braehead Clan's travel woes continued as Dundee Stars snapped a six-game winless run to move to within two points of the Clan in the Gardiner Conference.

Jordan Krestanovich's side's dismal away run was stretched to only one win in eight games and their frustration at not finding a level of consistency continued once more.

They started well, with Brock McPherson, Krestanovich and skipper Ash Goldie all giving Stars' keeper Nic Riopel some early food for thought.

However, the home side found the breakthrough when Tim Kraus finished a breakaway move, assisted by player-coach Jeff Hutchins to give them a vital advantage.

It didn't last long, though, when Matt Haywood levelled for the Clan exactly 10 minutes into the game, beating Riopel with his effort and parity had been restored.

Sami Ryhanen got his side back into the lead in the second period when Billy Bagron's shot was missed by Garrett Zemlak in the Clan goal.

Despite coming off the post, the former Nottingham Panther was on hand to tuck away the rebound, sparking celebrations among the home fans.

Braehead struggled to find any kind of scoring touch as chances went begging, not to mention the display of Riopel, who has been a thorn in many sides for Dundee.

But it was the Stars again that were celebrating early in the third session when Bagron put away his chance to make it 3-1.

Then he struck again five minutes later, with Dundee a man down following a penalty call against Ryhanen.

Jade Galbraith's uncharacteristic error allowed Bagron to take advantage and dispatch his chance past Zemlak, leaving Clan with a mountain to climb, which was never attempted.

Dundee coach Hutchins was pleased to see the club's recent losing streak come to an end in such a fashion.

He said: "The win was a compliment to our guys and in the games we lost, I thought we tended to be down on ourselves.

"There were flashes in those last six games, but it came good for us this time.

"I was pleased to see Billy get the two goals, but the one we lost was a mistake and that's something we'll look at in the video this week."

Meanwhile, Braehead Clan bench coach Frank Morris felt his side perhaps deserved more than they got on the night.

"We only scored one goal and I thought the guys played pretty well.

"We conceded soft goals at crucial points in the game and that tells you.

"It's frustrating because we're outshooting opponents and we keep losing, particularly on our travels. The inconsistency is always going to affect your game psychologically, but we've got to battle on with it."
