Belfast Giants see off Coventry Blaze 4-3 after penalty shootout

The Belfast Giants overcame Coventry Blaze in a penalty shootout to record a 4-3 Elite League win after the game had ended 3-3 after a period of overtime.
Goals by Derek Campbell and Brad Leeb in the first period and Steven Chalmers in the second put Coventry in control.
Mark Garside scored in the second period and Gregory Stewart and Kevin Saurette found the net in the third period to level at the Odyssey Arena.
Robby Sandrock converted his two penalties for a 2-1 shootout success.
Mike Schulte was the successful penalty taker for Blaze, with Leeb and Campbell missing with two attempts apiece.
Jeff Mason (2) and Noah Clarke had efforts saved for the Giants.
The Giants remain six points behind leaders Nottingham Panthers, who defeated Cardiff 4-1 on Saturday night.
Doug Christiansen's defending Elite League champions had suffered a second successive home defeat on Friday night when they went down 5-2 to Dundee Stars.
The Belfast side have just one game in hand of the Panthers and face Fife Flyers in their next league outing on Wednesday night.
