Challenge Cup: Fife Flyers 2-3 Belfast Giants
Calvin Elfring netted in overtime to give Belfast Giants a 3-2 victory over Fife Flyers in the Challenge Cup clash in Scotland on Saturday night.
Mike Kompon gave Belfast an early lead but Scott Fleming levelled before Bobby Chaumont put the hosts ahead early in the third period.
Mark McCutcheon equalised three minutes from time and Elfring popped up with the winner two minutes into overtime.
The Giants will play holders Nottingham Panthers in the quarter-finals.
Belfast were looking to bounce back after missing out on a place in the Continental Cup Super Final last weekend.
Kompon scored the opener in the eighth minute but the Flyers hit back three minutes before the end of the first period through Fleming's strike.
Chaumont made it 2-1 eight minutes into the third period and McCutcheon came to Belfast's rescue before Elfring clinched the win.
The result leaves the Giants second in their Challenge Cup pool and sets up a two-legged encounter against the Panthers.
The Giants are back in action on Sunday with an Elite League meeting with Sheffield Steelers at the Odyssey.
