The prospects of the Belfast Giants retaining their Elite League title took another knock when they lost 3-2 at Hull on Saturday night.

It was a third defeat in a row and leaves Steve Thornton's men in fifth place and eight points behind leaders Braehead Clan and Sheffield Steelers.

Craig Peacock netted his 11th goal of the season to put the Giants in front.

Carl Lauzon, Matthew Davies and Zach Hervato scored for Hull with Kevin Westgarth getting a late Giants goal.

The Davies goal came when the Giants were two men down as Peacock and Mike Kompon were serving penalties and they were still one man short when Hervato made it 3-1.

It was the first time since December 2009 that the Giants had lost three successive games in regulation.

The Giants now face the daunting task of facing Nottingham Panthers away on Sunday.

After that six of their next eight games are at home.
