Joe Grimaldi banned for 18 games & sacked after attack on opponent
Edinburgh Capitals' Joe Grimaldi has been banned for 18 games and sacked for attacking an opponent against ex-club Nottingham Panthers.
The American, 28, speared Panthers' Max Parent with his stick before throwing his helmet at the Canadian, landing a punch and wrestling him to the ground.
Capitals sacked Grimaldi, who picked up 69 penalty minutes in the game.
The club's co-owner Scott Neil said: "Joe plays with a lot of passion and it got the better of him."
Panthers won the 3 January Elite League fixture game 6-1.
