Belfast Giant's hopes of retaining their Elite League title suffered a blow as they were beaten 4-0 at the Odyssey Arena by Nottingham Panthers.

The Giants produced a lacklustre display as two early Guillaume Doucet goals put the visitors in control.

Colby Cohen added a further goal before the end of the first period and Robert Farmer added the fourth in the last period as the Giants were shut out.

The Giants will be back in action in Belfast against Fife on Saturday.

Giants coach Steve Thornton will be demanding a much improved display from his team in Saturday's game after they suffered their third straight home defeat in Friday's contest.

Nottingham's win moved them above the Giants into second spot in the Elite League table.

The Panthers are now four points behind leaders Braehead with the Giants a further point adrift.
