Belfast Giants bounced back from Friday's defeat by Nottingham Panthers with a comfortable 5-2 league win over Fife Flyers at the Odyssey.
Mike Kompon put the champions ahead with Cody Brockwell and Darryl Lloyd adding to Belfast's tally.
Ned Lukacevic pulled one back on the powerplay before Craig Peacock and Colin Shields netted for the Giants.
Jamie Milam scored a late consolation and the teams will meet again in Scotland on Sunday.
Belfast needed a win to keep their slim title hopes alive and they have moved back into second place but five points behind the Braehead Clan.
Kompon netted on the powerplay at 6:31 with Brookwell doubling the lead a minute later by scoring at the second attempt.
Lloyd fired in the third to complete an excellent first period for Steve Thornton's side.
Lukacevic gave the Flyers hope with a goal early in the second period but Peacock restored the three-goal advantage.
Shields made it 5-1 early in the third period before Milam completed the scoring with just a second remaining.
