Belfast Giants sign Mike Radja to complete roster for new season

The Belfast Giants have completed their roster for the new Elite League season by signing American Mike Radja.

The 30-year-old from from Yorkville, Illinois, spent the last three seasons playing in the Asia League.

The forward will add firepower up front for the Giants, having posted an average of over one point per game since the 2011-12 season.

"All reports we have had of Mike say he is a goalscorer," said the Giants' Head of Hockey Operations Steve Thornton.

New Giants coach Derrick Walser intends to delegate responsibility

"When he gets chances, he scores, and he has done it in great leagues.

"He's played in Japan and done extremely well, being one of the top goalscorers in the league. We saw last season what Mike Kompon brought to this team coming from Japan.

"We've given ourselves another creative forward who can help our production and we now have a good number of guys who can put pretty good numbers on the board - especially in those tight games, which is just so important."

Belfast finished fifth in the Elite League table last season, having won the title in 2014.

Under Walser, they will begin this season with games away to Dundee Stars and Edinburgh Capitals on 4 and 5 September.
