Ronaldinho released

In case you missed it earlier....

Former Brazil midfielder Ronaldinho has left Fluminense after spending just over two months and playing only nine games for the Rio de Janeiro club.

The 35-year-old had struggled to get match fit, failed to score a goal and produced only flashes of the talent that made him one of the world's top players when he was in his early 20s.

Fluminense said that they had agreed to part company with Ronaldinho in an "amicable manner and by mutual agreement".

Turns out Manuel Pellegrini didn't forget his passport, he just picked up the wrong one.

Manchester City arrived at the airport earlier today before their 15:15 BST flight and the manager jumped straight into a taxi after disembarking the team coach, before returning to the airport 35 minutes later.

Vincent Kompany's injury isn't just bad for for the Blues, it sounds like Belgium will have to do without the defender too for their final Euro 2016 qualifiers in which they need two more points...

Advantage Olympiakos?

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Olympiakos are helped in their Champions League campaign by the lack of competition in their own league.

Olympiakos have won the Greek title for the past five seasons and have won all their domestic league games so far.

"They are a team with a big advantage. They dominate their league easily at the moment so they can prepare for these kind of games," said Wenger.

Arsenal have won their last two games, at Tottenham and Leicester.

Coquelin is back

Arsenal could have holding midfielder Francis Coquelin back following a knee problem which kept him out of last Saturday's 5-2 Premier League win at Leicester.

Midfielders Mathieu Flamini (hamstring) and Mikel Arteta (dead leg) are ruled out, while forward Olivier Giroud serves a one-match ban following his red card in Arsenal's opening defeat at Dinamo Zagreb.

Defender Gabriel is also available following a one-match domestic suspension but Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck and Tomas Rosicky all remain out.

Olympiakos midfielder Luka Milivojevic is suspended following his dismissal against Dnipro in last season's Europa League. Defender Manuel da Costa is also out with a knee injury.

Stoke City chief executive Tony Scholes is hopeful the situation with Jonathan Walters' contract can be resolved.

The two parties have failed to agree terms on a new deal, and the Irish forward handed in a transfer request last month.

Scholes told Sport at Six on BBC Radio Stoke: "It would be fantastic if we can sort something out, I think players will always want what they think they`re worth and I understand that.

"At the moment we can`t agree on the length of the contract." 

'No more questions on Casillas'

Jose Mourinho's trip to his old club Porto also means he faces goalkeeper Iker Casillas, whom he managed at Real Madrid, where the relationship between the two reportedly became strained. 

When asked about encountering his former player, the Blues boss told the pre-match news conference: "If you're going to ask me about Casillas, I'm going to greet him at the beginning and the end. No more questions about it."

On his team's opponents, who are leading the Portuguese league, Mourinho said: "Away games in the Champions League are always difficult. They are a big side and want to win, but Porto know they will not face a weak team."

Porto midfielder Yacine Brahimi hurt his right knee against Moreirense on Friday, but is in the squad.

Midfielders Hector Herrera and Silvestre Varela have been left out.

Wayne Rooney says Fabio Capello's reign as England boss ranks as the biggest disappointment of his international career.

The striker has played under four permanent England managers - Sven-Goran Eriksson, Steve McClaren, Fabio Capello and current boss Roy Hodgson.

The Italian was in charge of the national team for just over four years and took England to the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa, where the Three Lions won just one of their four games.

Did you enjoy Everton's last-gasp win at West Brom last night?

Not as much as Kyle Jordan, who won more than £45,000 on £5 on an accumulator to predict the outcome of six matches, but also for both teams in each to score.

When Everton trailed 2-0 against West Bromwich Albion in the final match, the 30-year-old thought the game was up.

But the Toffeemen recovered to win 3-2 and complete Mr Jordan's 9,172-1 bet.

The oil and gas worker said he could not believe his luck when Everton striker Romelu Lukaku's 84th-minute goal sealed his £45,865 windfall.

'No brainer' to leave England for Germany

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini will be speaking soon ahead of thier match tomorrow, but one Englishman will be hoping to make an impression if he plays, but it will be for the home side.

18-year-old Mandela Egbo moved from Crystal Palace to Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer, to improve his chances of finding first-team football.

The right-back, who was part of England's under-17 squad who won the European Championships in Malta in 2014, told the Guardian he's hoping he decision will make him a better player in the long run.

“I’d read that the chances of coming through a club into the senior team were higher here than anywhere else in Europe’s major leagues and their entire system is aimed at youth development. It was a no-brainer," Egbo said.

Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking also spoke about striker Nicklas Bendtner, who he believes can still have a good career despite struggling to be a success at Arsenal and is keen to prove it against his old club.

Hecking said: "He has reacted very well, we have seen it in training. He did have problems before but he has come on a lot. He is on the right track. Perhaps with less of the extravagance."

Emergency - time for a congress

Fifa presidential candidateChung Mong-joonhas called for an emergency congress of football's world governing body, after leader Sepp Blatter was placed under criminal investigation.

The South Korean tycoon said an "emergency task force" had to be set up to take over Fifa's leadership.

Blatter was placed under criminal investigation by Swiss prosecutors last week but has since refused to stand down.

He has said he will leave office when an election is held in February.

Wayne Rooney served Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United for nine years, and the Liverpool-born player says that despite the rift in 2013, Ferguson was "the best manager of all time".

Celtic defender Charlie Mulgrew, 29, is in the squad despite a thigh strain.

So Manchester United's Wayne Rooney has admitted falling out with Sir Alex Ferguson during his final season in charge, but denies putting in a transfer request.

Rooney says he went to see Ferguson, who was United manager for 26 years, after being dropped in 2013.

"It's not just me who's had a fall-out with him," added the forward, 29, in Rooney - The Man Behind The Goals, to be shown on BBC One on 5 October.

"I don't know what happened or why that came out that way."

The England captain added: "I went in to see him and just said if you're not going to play me it might be better if I moved on - then all of a sudden it's all over the press I put in a transfer request, which I never did."

Tonga chase much needed win

Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano faces tax fraud charges after Spain's authorities filed a complaint against him.

The Superior Court of Justice in Cataluna has confirmed to the PA Sport agency that the Argentina international faces counts of defrauding the Spanish tax authorities.

However, a Spanish judge has yet to rule on whether or not the 31-year-old Mascherano's case will go to trial.

The South American is alleged to have concealed earnings related to his image rights in 2011 and 2012 worth £1.1m by using companies set up in the United States and in Portugal.

Spain's tax law allows a player to sell up to 15% of his image rights to a company.

"And when you have individuals with that unstable attitude in terms of motivation, desire and commitment you will pay."

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson fought with Sir Alex Ferguson over selecting Wayne Rooney for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Before the tournament the Manchester United striker fractured a metatarsal bone in his right foot, and in a BBC documentary to air next week the Swede has admitted he was under pressure not to pick him.

"It became a fight between Ferguson and myself," said Eriksson..

Birmingham City have signed teenage defender Emmanuel Mbende following his summer exit from Borussia Dortmund.

The 19-year-old, who has been on trial with Blues for a month, has signed up for the rest of the 2015-16 season.

"He's about six foot four wide and six foot four high. There's a lot to work on because of his attributes," Blues boss Gary Rowett told BBC WM 95.6.

Former Rotherham United manager Steve Evans has revealed how tears were shed when it was agreed he would leave the Championship club.

The 52-year-old parted company with the Millers on Monday following a meeting with chairman Tony Stewart.

"At the end of the meeting we hugged and there were some tears. It was a very emotional moment, for someone to watch his chairman shed tears and know that in the next few hours we were going to formally part," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

His contract expires at Old Trafford in 2017, and while his intention is to finish in two years because of a promise to his wife, he admitted in football you never know.

The Dutchman says United need to win their home games starting against Wolfsburg to progress in the compeition, after losing on the opening match day away at PSV Eindhoven.

Wolfsburg's director of sport Klaus Allofs has revealed that Kevin de Bruyne is earning four times as much with Manchester City as he was getting at the Bundesliga club.

The Belgian moved to City for £55m and Allofs told Die Welt newspaper: "When a player comes to you with an offer from a club willing to pay him four times as much as he is already earning, then you've got to consider what's going through his head.

"We had looked for a solution which would have allowed us to keep hold of him for at least another year, but when that was not possible, it was clear that we would sell him.

"Nobody could guarantee him that he would receive the same offer again."

Extradition of Li approved

The Swiss Federal Office of Justice has approved the extradition of Eduardo Li, the former president of the Costa Rican Football Federation, to the United States.

Li, a Costa Rican citizen, was arrested in Zurich along with six other FIFA officials in a dawn raid on a Zurich hotel on May 27.

The U.S. Department of Justice issued an arrest warrant in May against Li, accusing him of taking bribes in connection with the sale of marketing rights for World Cup 2018 qualifying games. 

He has been in custody pending extradition and now has 30 days to appeal the Swiss decision. 

Cipriani available

Whilst England are preparing to face Australia in the Rugby World Cup on Saturday, Danny Cipriani is available for Sale Sharks' pre-season game against Newcastle on Friday night.

The 27-year-old fly-half returned to Sale after being part of England's training squad, but missing out on the final selection.

Kilbane 'disappointed' with Grealish

Kevin Kilbane is "disappointed" with Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish's decision to play for England, rather than the Republic of Ireland.

The former Everton midfielder Kilbane told BBC Radio 5 Live despite being born in Preston, and he would've traded "100 caps for England" to play once for Ireland.

"I might never have played for England at senior level," said Kilbane. "But that is how I felt at age 16 and 17. That was always going to be my decision."

"He's been nurtured from the FAI and played noty just for the under-21s but at youth level. I'm disappointed, he would have been a great addition to the Ireland squad. It comes down to a personal choice."

'Bitter pill'

There has been a lively debate on BBC Radio 5 live about Jack Grealish's controversial decision to choose England ahead of the Republic of Ireland.

Former Republic international Kevin Kilbane.described it as a "bitter pill to swallow", saying: "It was a difficult decision for him - he's been nurtured by the FAI at youth levels.

"I'm disappointed because he would have been a great addition to the squad."

Long way to go yet

Tim Sherwood says Jack Grealish has "a long way to go" before he becomes a regular in the England side.

Grealish must wait for chance

It will take four two six weeks for Jack Grealish's international clearance to be granted, PA Sport reports.

That means the 20-year-old - who yesterday pledged his allegiance to England rather than the Republic of Ireland - will not be included in the squad for the two qualifiers against Estonia and Lithuania next month.,

Grealish could, however, feature in the friendlies against Spain and France in November.

No Tour in London

London has turned down the chance to host the start of the 2017 Tour de France, angering the race owners.

London beat bids from Edinburgh, Manchester and several German regions to stage the Grand Depart.

But last week, a day before contracts were meant to be signed, Transport for London (TfL) said it was pulling out.
