  1. Who to watch

With the incorporation of the European 10,000m Cup, Hampstead Heath is set to welcome many of the continent's best long-distance runners.

Spain took all podium places in the men's race during last year's European 10,000m Cup in Minsk and will be hoping for a similar outcome this time around. Reigning European champion Antonio Abadia will be leading the strong Spanish outfit which also includes European indoor 3000m champion Adel Mechaal.

Local fans will be keeping an close eye on British Champion Andy Vernon, who returns to north London to defend the title he picked up at the Night of the 10,000m PBs 12 months ago.

In the women's race, the absence of Portugal's defending European champion Sara Moreira could open the door for Israel's Lonah Chemtai, who clocked an impressive 31:39.63 to win at the Israeli Championships earlier this month.

Two-time European 10,000m Cup winner Sabrina Mockenhaupt and former European cross country champion Sophie Duarte will also be among the front-runners in the women's field.

  2. What is it?

Set up in 2013 with the goal of improving British racing standards and making 10,000m racing aspirational, the volunteer-driven Night of 10,000m PBs sees athletes race 25 laps around Parliament Hill Athletics Track in Hampstead Heath.

Since its introduction, the event's significance on the athletics calendar has grown quickly. In addition to incorporating the British 10,000m Championships in 2014, the showcase has previously been used for both the Team GB 2016 Rio Olympic trials and the 2017 London World Championship trials.

This year, the Night of the 10,000m PBs will welcome athletes from 27 nations as it doubles as both the European 10,000m Cup & British 10,000m Championships.
