  1. The end...

    Goodnight one and all

He has lived out dreams and been followed by thousands.

He's no doubt inspired many to lace up the gloves and chase dreams of their own.

Carl Frampton will always have the big nights to look back on. They can't be taken away.

Shout out to Jamel Herring for the night's quality. Shout out to Carl Frampton for years of class. He's a former fighter now... and a great one at that.

    Adios our boxing friends.

  2. Read all about it...

    Frampton loses and retires

BBC Sport Northern Ireland's Michael Morrow has put together a fight report and is prepping some content looking back on Frampton's career that you'll be able to enjoy tomorrow.

Here's his take on defeat and the decision to call time.

  3. What you've missed...

    Frampton v Herring

If you've been enjoying a film or boxset and didn't quite catch tonight's Dubai dust up, we can tell you:

    - Carl Frampton found it difficult to counter the reach advantage Jamel Herring brought to the ring.

    - Herring - defending his world title - floored Frampton in rounds five and six

    - Frampton's corner threw the towel in during the sixth

    - The Northern Ireland fighter instantly retired from this tough and unforgiving game.

  4. Post update

So the professional career that started at the Liverpool Olympia in 2009 is over.

It went took Carl Frampton to the US, to nights in front of an adoring Belfast crowd and to stardom.

Two world titles in two different weights, a truly epic fight against Josh Warrington that few will forget in 2018, ups, downs and then the end in Dubai.

Some are already saying he deserved a farewell in his home city. It takes a brave man to fight and a brave one to call time.

    He has done both.

  5. That's that

    Frampton v Herring

    Michael Morrow

    BBC Sport NI

There you go. Carl Frampton believed after losing to Josh Warrington that he had one more world title in him, that's what convinced him to keep fighting.

Very clearly, he has no such motivation this time.

A sad way for his glittering career to end, but as he said in the ring, there won't be any complaints.

Gerard McLaughlin: Without doubt, for me, best fighter ever to come from this island, absolute superstar and didn't get enough credit for beating Santa Cruz, absolute hero @RealCFrampton

  7. Post update

One of Liverpool's fighting sons has a few words of observation about Carl Frampton's class even in the wake of a heart-breaking defeat...

  8. Respect for Herring...

Before we conclude on Carl Frampton's retirement, let's all tip our caps to Jamel Herring.

That fight reminded me of when Ricky Burns fought the freakishly long Julius Indongo in 2017. Indongo seemed to have arms that went on forever and just didn't let Burns near him. It was textbook then and it was practically textbook from Herring now.

His work was just hard, well placed and just constantly sent the smaller man back where he came from. You have to respect a display when you see one and that was good, no question.

  9. Post update

    Frampton loses and retires

Former Irish rugby star Tommy Bowe is reminiscing, as many are right now I guess...

  10. The end...

Let's just leave this here for a bit. Big nights, big fights, lasting memories.

Ben Bradgate: Herring looked two weight divisions bigger on the night. Frampton was well beaten, sadly for him.

Jamie Belf: Looked like a physical mis-match but happy retirement Carl..legend!!

  12. The picture says it all...

  13. 'I've been a fan' - Herring

    Frampton loses and retires

Jamel Herring reacts to his win. He's still a world champion: "It was an emotional rollercoaster to get here. My last outing wasn't the best, people called me every name in the book. He is a tremendous champion, I've been fan. It's tough to see a veteran of the sport go out."

Damien Bellew: Herring a class above, looked to have Framptons number from round 1.

Michael Kelly: Looked a mis-match to be honest, Herring just physically too big and strong!
