  1. Goodbye

That's it from us for this evening, after yet another impressive limited-overs performance from England. There's a sentence I thought I might never write. Join us tomorrow from 15:40 GMT for the second T20. Until then, goodbye.

  2. 'I've been watching the guys smash it everywhere'

Sam Billings, who hit 53 off 25 balls, on Sky Sports: "I've been on the sidelines watching the guys smash it everywhere. It's the nature of the job - you've just got to be ready.

"How I played is a credit to Morgy - he said 'play your way, play exactly how you got here in the first place'. Against a seriously decent, it's really pleasing to make a contribution."

Can Billings and Jos Buttler play in the same side? "Jos Buttler is a freak - he showed it the other night. Who knows? If we can both play in the same side it would be great."

  4. The series so far

26 Nov: First T20, Dubai: England won by 14 runs

    27 Nov: Second T20, Dubai

    30 Nov: Third T20, Sharjah

All matches start at 16:00 GMT

  5. Match report

Sam Billings' thrilling half-century led England to a 14-run win over Pakistan and a 1-0 lead in the three-match Twenty20 series.

Billings, in the side for the rested Jos Buttler, blasted 53 from 25 balls to take the tourists to 160-5 in Dubai.

They had earlier been rescued from 19-3 by Eoin Morgan (45 not out) and debutant James Vince (41).

Pakistan slipped to 42-4 and 75-7 and only reached 146 as England leaked runs at the end of the innings.

England, who won the one-day series 3-1 after losing the Tests 2-0, have now won four successive T20 internationals.

  6. Captain's reaction

England captain Eoin Morgan: "Tonight was a really strong performance in which we showed a lot of character. To come back from 19-3 and then to defend 160 was really good. It's always a good sign of a changing room when players who haven't played all tour come out and perform - I'm really proud of them.

  7. Captain's reaction

Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi: "We don't have any excuses for this. It was a good effort from our bowlers - they did well, particularly in the first six overs. Eoin Morgan played smart cricket and very mature cricket and England built partnerships.

"That was a chaseable total. But we batted very poorly. I know we lost this game but we've got some positive things from it."

  8. Man of the match

Sam Billings is named man of the match.

He says: "I loved it. I tried to back my own gameplan and thankfully it came off for me. You try and take your opportunity when you get it - I took inspiration from Jos Buttler the other day."

  22. Pak 141-8 (need 20 off 6)

Wahab just about keeps Pakistan in it with a big slice over point for four. And then another four, thick-edged down to third man off a full toss, gets the fans excited. Single off the final delivery, 20 needed off the last.

  23. Pak 132-8

I don't think Adil Rashid's going to get a bowl here. Jordan takes the ball for the penultimate over. He starts well - just a single from his first three deliveries, and Pakistan need miracles now.

"In the last couple of overs, Topley and Jordan have bowled four or five wides. England will want to make sure they don't leak too many runs."

  25. Pak 131-8 (need 30 off 12)

Topley responds well under pressure - two good yorkers evade the bat of Tanvir, and a third is blocked out for a single.

  26. Pak 129-8

Tanvir absolutely smashes Topley into the stands at cow corner. Life in this yet.

    Sohail Tanvir
  27. Toss to be scrapped in County Championship

    What do the players think?

  28. Pak 121-8 (need 40 off 18)

Plunkett responds with a superb bouncer, and then a slightly slower delivery that beats the slog of Tanvir. Tanvir swings and misses again and they run a leg bye. That's a superb spell from Plunkett, 3-21 off his four overs - he's really proved a point today.

  29. Pak 119-8

It's not over yet you know. Wahab picks up four with a glance off his legs before they pinch a single off the next ball.

Jon Dunn: Chris Jordan, mixing his half volleys with wides.

Paul Baldwin: Remind me again why Jordan is going to SA rather than Plunkett.

  31. Pak 114-8 (need 47 off 24)

The occasionally wayward Jordan misfires with a couple of wides, before a huge hoick from Tanvir lands just out of reach of the diving Hales in the leg-side outfield. Wahab smashes over mid-off for two off the final ball, and that's a very good over for Pakistan - 14 off it, above the required rate.

  32. Pak 108-8

Sohail smites Jordan down the ground and it just eludes the diving Rashid at long-off. And then he picks up another four, smashed through the gap at midwicket.

  47. WICKET

    U Akmal run out 19 (Pak 74-5)

We've seen some great run-outs by Pakistan on this tour. But I think this might be my favourite yet. Maqsood miscues a pull along the ground to midwicket and sets off - but Umar Akmal decides he doesn't want the run halfway down and the two end up racing each other to the non-striker's end while Billings calmly takes the bails off at the striker's end. A shambles.

    Adil Rashid and Sam Billings
  48. Pak 74-4

That is just brutal. Slightly short from Parry and when you're bowling that slowly, you're asking for trouble. Heaved almost 100 metres into the stands by Maqsood. But then...

Alan Vaughan: No toss-another nail in the tomb of traditional cricket. Next the dreaded beach cricket will take over from the Tests.

England have gone spin-crazy! Moeen and Parry on, and Adil Rashid still waiting in the wings. Maqsood uses his feet to Moeen and that's gone all the way - huge swing of the bat and it's dropped in the England coaching dug-out! Dear oh dear - eyes on the ball, lads!

John Quinn: Have you heard of the plan to show the Flintstones in UAE? Apparently those in Dubai don't like it but those in Abu Dhabi do :)

  61. Pak 38-3 (run rate 5.42)

Moeen Ali into the attack for England. Pakistan's batsmen are usually assured against spin, and indeed Rizwan opens his account with a punchy cut for four. But Moeen's next ball is better, faster and flatter, and fizzes past Rizwan's outside edge.

  62. Coin toss to be scrapped in County Championship

The England and Wales Cricket Board has confirmed the mandatory coin toss is to be scrapped in the County Championship next season.

An ECB statement read: "The visiting captain will be offered the opportunity of bowling first. If he declines, the toss will take place as normal. But if he accepts, there will be no toss."

The aim is to encourage counties to produce better pitches for four-day cricket.

  89. 50 for Billings

William Harvey: Rafatullah Mohmand was our overseas player in the Derbyshire leagues a few years back. He's top class. Deserves this chance.

Afridi with a real loose delivery, it slips out of the hand and Vince splatters it past deep midwicket for another four.

  119. Eng 72-3

Morgan reverse-sweeps Afridi fine for four, then glides a single to backward point.

Adam Becket: Interestingly, I was in a nightclub with James Vince earlier this summer. I can confirm he is rather tall.

  121. Eng 67-3 (Vince 29, Morgan 18)

England continuing to content themselves with one boundary an over, judging - probably correctly - that conserving wickets is more important at this stage. Morgan and Vince extend this crucial partnership to 48.

Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special

"That was a very smart shot. He was done for pace, but he timed it well."

  123. Eng 64-3

That's more like it. He lies in wait for an Imran Khan slower ball and pounces with a meaty pull that travels just over the rope for England's first maximum of the innings. Vince and Morgan pinch a couple of singles off the next two balls.

  124. Eng 56-3 (run rate 6.22)

Vince is looking strong through the off side - he bludgeons Afridi through the covers for four. England not quite breaking the shackles yet, though - a boundary per over the current rate, and Pakistan will be the happier side as we near the halfway mark.

    Ebony Rainford-Brent

Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special

"Imran Khan is bowling cutters, knowing the ball will sit in the pitch. Morgan waited and helped it on its way. Really good stuff."

  126. Eng 49-3 (Vince 16, Morgan 14)

Another change for Pakistan, and the new bowler is Imran Khan - not the Imran Khan who played in the Test series, or the legendary captain who later went into politics. Imran number three. This one deals in military-medium left-armers, with a real mix of slower balls. Morgan picks one such delivery and swats it behind square for four.

The puppetmaster himself, Shahid Afridi, brings himself into the attack to bowl his beguiling, deceptively dangerous brand of leg-tweak. England, who were beginning to race, suddenly hit treacle - just three singles from a crafty over.

  130. Eng 40-3 (Vince 14, Morgan 7)

Vince is beginning to look good. He crunches Wahab through extra-cover for the third boundary of the over. Suddenly, England have a bit of momentum.

  132. Eng 34-3

Wahab Riaz, so impressive in the Test series, enters the attack to quicken England heart-rates just a little more. Morgan square-cuts him for four, but next ball he nearly perishes as he tries to work one into the leg side and gets a leading edge that loops tantalisingly just over midwicket's head. Vince swivel-pulls Wahab for four off the next ball.

    Vic Marks

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

"Vince is not exclusively an off-side player, but he does like to give himself room and hit that way."

  134. Eng 25-3 (Vince 5, Morgan 1)

Morgan gets off the mark with a single to deep square and then Vince eases the pressure with a much-needed boundary, a drive splitting cover and mid-off.

Richie O'Hara Beamand: Lively it too late to sneak Buttler back on to the team sheet?

  136. Eng 20-3

Pakistan are menacing now, on their toes, that walk-in on the bowler's delivery giving the batsman the feeling of the infield constricting around them. Vince eventually gets off the mark with a swat into the leg side.

Imogen: If we rest our best players we have to accept that the inexperience may let us down - collapses in the middle are our speciality.

Rory Burling: Andrew Strauss says he's going to take white ball cricket more seriously. What does this team say about that? Retrograde.

  138. Eng 19-3 (run rate 4.75)

Captain Eoin Morgan comes in and blocks out his first ball. These two have a heck of a rebuilding job to do.
