  1. Thanks for joining

    Ben Duckett

Well that's all we've got time for today I'm afraid.

We had three centuries, including Ben Duckett's marvellous 178 not out for Northants.

There were also a couple of five-wicket hauls for Warwickshire's Keith Barker and Surrey's Ravi Rampaul.

A pretty enjoyable opening day to the new County Championship season I think you'll agree.

We'll be back on Monday from 10.55 BST.

    Have a good evening.

  2. Day one scores

Here's how day one ended up in the County Championship.

    Division One:

    Nottinghamshire 446 v Surrey 7-0

    Hampshire 189-8 v Warwickshire

    Durham 256 v Somerset 30-3

    Division Two:

Worcestershire v Kent (no play on day one, wet outfield)

    Northants 296-2 v Sussex

    Gloucestershire 262 v Essex 39-1

Click here for Sunday's full scorecards.

  3. Close of play

    Surrey 7-0 v Nottinghamshire 446

But they've done it. Two overs safely negotiated and that's our games done and dusted for today.

  4. A tricky 10 minutes

    Surrey 0-0 v Nottinghamshire 446

Surrey's openers Rory Burns and Arun Harinath have two overs left to survive this evening.

    Not nice.

  5. Close of play

    Somerset 30-3 v Durham 256

Three late wickets have put Durham in the ascendancy at Chester-le-Street.

Chris Rushworth and Graham Onions doing the damage with the ball...obviously.

  6. Close of play

    Essex 39-1 v Gloucestershire 262

England captain Alastair Cook is unbeaten on 17 at stumps on day one in Chelmsford.

Essex slightly on top after only losing one wicket under the floodlights in that final hour you'd have to say.

  7. Five-wicket haul for Rampaul

    Nottinghamshire 446 v Surrey

Harry Gurney goes first ball and it's five wickets for West Indies paceman Ravi Rampaul.

And my headline rhymes. Pleased with that.

  8. Post update

    Nottinghamshire 446-9 v Surrey

Nottinghamshire's first innings is almost over - Ravi Rampaul with four wickets for Surrey.

Chris Read is unbeaten on 63.

  9. Close of play

    Hampshire 189-8 v Warwickshire

Stumps is also called at the Ageas Bowl with Hampshire staging something of a fightback from 87-7.

Ryan McLaren the chief architect with an unbeaten 84, while Keith Barker took five wickets for the visitors.

  10. Rushworth & Onions firing

    Somerset 23-3 v Durham 256

They're at it again! Chris Rushworth has two and Graham Onions has just removed Marcus Trescothick.

    Somerset in trouble.

  11. 'Fascinating battle'

    Essex 30-1 v Gloucestershire 262

BBC Radio Gloucestershire's Bob Hunt at Chelmsford:

"Fascinating battle between the impressive Liam Norwell and Alastair Cook at Chelmsford.

"Norwell bowling at full pace is genuinely quick and dangerous."

  12. Close of play

    Northants 296-2 v Sussex

The players are not getting back on at Wantage Road as the umpires call time on day one.

It's been a day to remember for Ben Duckett. He'll resume day two on 178.

  13. Rushworth continues where he left off

    Somerset 12-1 v Durham 256

Durham's Chris Rushworth is in the wickets again...

  14. Alastair Cook watch...

    Essex 18-1 v Gloucestershire 262

The England captain is looking relatively unflustered on 11 not out in tricky conditions with the floodlights on at Chelmsford.

Now that's a face of concentration if I've ever seen one.

    Alastair Cook
  15. 'Players off for frost bite'

    Northants 296-2 v Sussex

BBC Sussex's Adrian Harms at Wantage Road:

"Players off for bad light and possibly frost bite at Northants with an unlikely 14 overs left in the day

"Magnificent knock from Ben Duckett his highest first class score 178 not out and he's not finished yet."

  16. 'Impressive fightback by Hampshire'

Hampshire 189-8 v Warwickshire - bad light stopped play

BBC Coventry & Warwickshire's Clive Eakin at the Ageas Bowl:

"Bad light has interrupted an impressive fight back by Hampshire led by South African all rounder Ryan McLaren.

"At 189-8 the home side are probably still well below par on what looks a slow pitch but their position is far less calamitous than it looked at lunch after Keith Barker tore through them with five wickets.

"James Tomlinson is being given a working over by Boyd Rankin but the number 10 batsman has shown some grit to survive and allow McLaren to reach 84 not out."

  17. Bad light stops play at Wantage Road

    Northants 296-2 v Sussex

The players are also off in Northampton with Ben Duckett unbeaten on 178.

  18. WICKET Patel (c S Curran b T Curran 85)

    Nottinghamshire 401-6 v Surrey

The Curran brothers provide an instant breakthrough after Notts bring up the 400.

Samit Patel is caught by Sam off the bowling of older brother Tom.

  19. Maximum batting points for Notts

    Nottinghamshire 400-5 v Surrey

Notts earn their fifth batting bonus point as they pass 400. Samit Patel is unbeaten on 85 and Chris Read is 42 not out.

Still 13 overs left today at Trent Bridge. 500 anyone?

  20. Duckett marches towards 200

    Northants 293-2

BBC Sussex's Adrian Harms at Wantage Road:

"New ball taken by Sussex who desperately need wickets to get back in this match.

"Ben Duckett will be determined to reach the close unbeaten, he's 177 not out."
