    Essex 385 & 75-0 v Gloucestershire 262 & 215

Essex are cruising home as opener Nick Browne brings up his half-century off 65 balls.

Alastair Cook has moved serenely to 20. Just 18 needed for victory.

Who should replace James Taylor in England's middle order?

  3. Unlikely win for Surrey?

    Nottinghamshire 446 v Surrey 225 & 333-5

It seemed almost impossible when they were asked to follow-on 221 runs behind, but Surrey are building a decent lead at Trent Bridge.

Arun Harinath has moved to 129 not out, and teenager Sam Curran is providing some decent support on 21.

The lead is up to 112, with all three results still possible.

  4. First wicket of the day

    Hampshire 202 v Warwickshire 304-7

It's fallen at the Ageas Bowl where Warwickshire all-rounder Rikki Clarke edges Ryan McLaren behind.

Ian Bell, who hit three boundaries in Fidel Edwards' previous over, is still going strong on 144 not out.

Warwickshire lead by 102 - is it too late to force a result?

  5. Game abandoned at Durham

    Durham 256 & 223-4 v Somerset 179 (match drawn)

Ah, the chances of play aren't good...the umpires have called it off at Chester-le-Street and the match is drawn.

  6. 'Start the bus'

    Durham 256 & 223-4 v Somerset 179

Chances of play at Chester-le-Street don't appear too good at the moment...

On Tuesday, the cricket world was rocked by the news England and Nottinghamshire batsman James Taylor had been forced to retire because of a serious heart condition.

The middle-order batsman had been an integral part of England's side during the winter tour of South Africa, so his retirement leaves a hole in the team.

So our question today is, who do you think should replace Taylor in the England Test set up?

Get in touch using #bbccricket on Twitter.

    James Taylor
  8. Inspection at Chester-le-Street

    Durham 256 & 223-4 v Somerset 179

Fingers crossed for some positive news from Durham...

  10. Essex on verge of victory

    Essex 385 & 37-0 v Gloucestershire 262 & 215

We could have our first positive result of the 2016 County Championship season in the next hour or so at Chelmsford.

Essex need just 56 more runs to beat Gloucestershire with all 10 wickets in hand.

England Test captain Alastair Cook is seven not out.

  11. Post update

    Hampshire 202 v Warwickshire 283-6

BBC Coventry & Warwickshire's Clive Eakin at the Ageas Bowl:

"Sun shining at Southampton as Warwickshire chase victory on the final day of their Specsavers county championship match against Hampshire."

  13. Elsewhere

The umpires are just about to head out at Chester-le-Street, where we've had some heavy overnight and morning rain.

But the games at Trent Bridge, Chelmsford and the Ageas Bowl are getting away on time.

  14. Post update

There will also be an inspection at 12:00 BST at New Road, where we're yet to see a ball bowled between Worcestershire and Kent.

Again, it's a glorious morning, but it's been a pretty soggy scene in the West Midlands since Sunday.

  15. Game off at Wantage Road

...the damp conditions have taken their toll at Northampton, where the umpires have decided to abandon the match.

It leaves Ben Duckett stranded on 282 not out.

  16. The sun is shining! But...

    County Championship - day four

It's certainly been a typical start to the County Championship season, weather wise.

We've had all four seasons, frosts and washouts, but today the sun is out and spring is in the air.

However, it's not completely good news I'm afraid to say...
