Close of play at Derby

Derbyshire 191 v Sussex 83-1

And our final match of day one comes to a close with Sussex in a strong position.

They will resume on Monday just 108 runs behind with nine wickets in hand.

Things drawing to a close

Derbyshire 191 v Sussex 79-1

So, just the one game left in the late evening sunshine at Derby, where Sussex are batting with two overs left.

Ed Joyce has moved to 37 after Chris Nash fell for the same score.

HUNDRED FOR JOE CLARKE & STUMPS

Worcestershire 343-2 v Glamorgan

Worcestershire teenager Joe Clarke brings up a deserved century just before the close in Cardiff.

The visitors have absolutely dominated with the bat with Brett D'Oliveira also unbeaten on 152.

Close of play at Canterbury

Gloucestershire 296-9 v Kent

Gloucestershire who were 14-4, have fought back magnificently thanks to Hamish Marshall's century and Jack Taylor's 52.

Stumps at Grace Road

Leicestershire 311-5 v Northants

A fine day for Leicestershire with the bat comes to an end. Northants bowled an astonishing 60 extras to help the hosts along.

Close of play at Headingley

Yorkshire 15-0 v Surrey 330

It's also over in Yorkshire, where the hosts have played out the final two overs unscathed.

A fine comeback from the reigning county champions after Surrey were 264-4 at one point in the evening session.

Day one over at Edgbaston

Warwickshire 27-2 v Somerset 295

Umpires are removing the bails everywhere. Jonathan Trott and Varun Chopra survive the final three overs after those couple of quick wickets for Somerset.

Close of play at Lord's

Nottinghamshire 345-7 v Middlesex

Nottinghamshire's Samit Patel goes to the dressing room unbeaten on 86, with Brett Hutton on 21.

Their fifty partnership late in the day has just tilted things back in favour of Notts you'd have to say.

Stumps at Old Trafford

Lancashire 157-1 v Hampshire 109

And there's a close of play that couldn't have come quick enough for Hampshire.

After being bowled out for 109, Lancashire have rubbed salt into the wound with the bat and already built a lead of 48 with nine wickets in hand.

Haseeb Hameed (41 not out) and Luke Procter (48 not out) to resume in the morning.

Warwickshire two-down

Warwickshire 15-2 v Somerset 295

Nightwatchman Boyd Rankin can't survive until the close thanks to a magnificent catch by James Hildreth at short-leg off Craig Overton.

Jonathan Trott comes to the middle with two overs left.

SURREY ARE BOWLED OUT

Surrey 330 v Yorkshire

Jack Brooks picks up the final Surrey wicket as Ravi Rampaul edges him behind to Jonny Bairstow.

Really good session for the reigning county champions after tea, picking up six wickets.

WICKET Westwood (lbw b Gregory 3)

Warwickshire 6-1 v Somerset 295

Somerset do have the early breakthrough they wanted at Edgbaston as Ian Westwood goes lbw to Lewis Gregory.

How many leg-before decisions is that today? I've lost count.

'No reason for Hampshire to be cheerful'

Lancashire 146-1 v Hampshire 109

BBC Sport's Stephan Shemilt at Old Trafford:

"On a sunny evening in Manchester, it really likes summer has arrived. That's no reason for Hampshire to be cheerful, with the visitors being driven into the dirt.

"Haseeb Hameed and Luke Proctor have watchfully taken Lancs past Hampshire's 109 and beyond, with the Red Rose looking set for a springboard from which to launch tomorrow."

Loving this batting from @HaseebHameed97, so nice to see a 19 year old with the temperament to open in a 4 day game #bbccricket

Worcestershire's young guns

Worcestershire 290-2 v Glamorgan

Brett D'Oliveira and Joe Clarke are absolutely pummeling Glamorgan.

The pair's third-wicket stand is now worth 156 with D'Oliveira on 136 and 19-year-old Clarke on 72.

Very encouraging signs for Steve Rhodes' side.

It's sunny

Nottinghamshire 312-7 v Middlesex

This scene from Lord's has been a familiar one up and down the country today. Glorious is not the word!

3 occasions of 2 wickets in 2 balls today! Pays testament to the theory of them falling in clusters! #bbccricket

Yep, it's been a topsy-turvy old day out there Ciaran. Still plenty of time for some late drama.

Somerset 295 all out

Here's BBC WM's Mike Taylor's thoughts on proceedings at Edgbaston...

Somerset 295 all out. No more than 1 down at close and @WarwickshireCCC will have had a very good day. #bbccricket

No Willey hat-trick

Surrey 313-8 v Yorkshire

Ravi Rampaul survives David Willey's hat-trick delivery. As you were.

WICKET Trego (lbw b Woakes 94)

Somerset 295 v Warwickshire

Poor Peter Trego, Somerset through and through, falls six runs short of a derserved hundred.

Chris Woakes traps him lbw and then has Jack Leach caught by Varun Chopra next ball and Somerset are all out.

David Willey on a hat-trick!

Surrey 309-8 v Yorkshire

David Willey removes James Burke and Gareth Batty in consecutive balls at the end of his 19th over and will be on a hat-trick at the start of his next.

Surrey have now lost four for 45.

Solid response from Sussex

@bbcsport loving online commentary, going to say you guys have best job, but think that prize goes to the guy in Tier 4 #bbccricket #LANvHAM

Thanks Ian, but what's happening in Tier 4 at Old Trafford to better our commentary?!

Broad gone!

Nottinghamshire 291-7 v Middlesex

Stuart Broad also goes at Lord's to England team mate Steve Finn, caught by Nick Compton at third slip.

That's two wickets in two overs for the England paceman.

WICKET Marshall (c Latham b Claydon 112)

Gloucestershire 254-8 v Kent

Hamish Marshall, who came in with Gloucestershire on 9-3, is finally out for 112 to the first delivery with the new ball.

He lobs Mitch Claydon to Tom Latham at slip off the glove. In the previous over, Jack Taylor was caught and bowled by Darren Stevens for 52.

WICKET Read (c Compton b Finn 38)

Nottinghamshire 279-6 v Middlesex

England paceman Steven Finn picks up a crucial wicket at Lord's as Chris Read slices him to Nick Compton at gully.

Stuart Broad is next man in. Finn to Broad...I'd expect some short stuff from the big man.

Lancashire take the lead

Lancashire 112-1 v Hampshire 109

Hampshire's miserable day at Old Trafford continues as the hosts creep into the lead.

Haseeb Hameed has moved serenely to 25, while Luke Procter is on 19.

Fifty for Samit Patel

Nottinghamshire 279-5 v Middlesex

Samit Patel is leading a bit of a Notts recovery at Lord's along with skipper Chris Read.

The pair have put on 71 for the sixth wicket, with Patel just passing 50. Read is 38 not out.

WICKET C Overton (c Chopra b Trott 13)

Somerset 265-8 v Warwickshire

Jonathan Trott is rolling back the years at Edgbaston! The medium pacer picks up his 68th first-class wicket, removing Craig Overton.

Craig's twin brother Jamie comes to the crease, with Peter Trego unbeaten on 76.

'Northants haven't got going'

Leicestershire 258-3 v Northants

BBC Radio Northampton’s Alex Winter at Grace Road:

“Northants haven’t quite got going in the field this season. Two minus points today, firstly the burgeoning number of extras - 47 through 71 overs - and secondly the catching.

“A sharp chance to Richard Levi reprieved Mark Cosgrove on four before tea but five overs after the interval Alex Wakely has shelled a sitter at second slip - Cosgrove the lucky man again, this time on 34.

“Wakely has has also left the field looking suspiciously at his left hand. At least Azharullah has cheered him up slightly with the third lbw of the day, Neil Dexter missing out on his second Leicestershire century by just two runs.”

WICKET Foakes (c Lees b Patterson 45)

Surrey 277-6 v Yorkshire

Both of Surrey's set batsmen are now out. Ben Foakes is caught at second slip by Alex Lees off Steven Patterson and Surrey suddenly have to rebuild.

I guess this is what champions do.

BRETT D'OLIVEIRA MAKES A CENTURY

Worcestershire 222-2 v Glamorgan

Brett D'Oliveira, who had never hit a County Championship century before last week, brings up his second in consecutive matches for Worcestershire.

It's been a gritty knock off 227 balls, but a fine one nonetheless and put his side in a strong position in Cardiff.

DERBYSHIRE ALL OUT

Derbyshire 191 v Sussex

I make that the last nine wickets falling for 118 at Derby. Some performance from Sussex's bowlers.

Terrific recovery by @SussexCCC 73-1 for Derbyshire has become 191 all out @BBCSussexSport #bbccricket

CENTURY FOR HAMISH MARSHALL

Gloucestershire 227-6 v Kent

Hamish Marshall has led a fine fightback for Gloucestershire after they were 14-4 this morning.

The New Zealander brings up his 179-ball century with an 11th boundary and puts Gloucestershire on course for 300.

This was unthinkable at midday!

WICKET Davies (c Plunkett b Patterson 117)

Surrey 264-5 v Yorkshire

Steven Davies' wonderful innings comes to an end as he chips Steven Patterson to Liam Plunkett at short cover.

Yorkshire are back in this.

WICKET Dexter (lbw b Azharullah 98)

Leicestershire 247-3 v Northants

One of Leicestershire's new signings for this season, Neil Dexter, falls two short of a deserved century at Grace Road.

Azharullah dismisses him lbw, but Dexter has helped put his side well on top.
