  1. Good evening

That's all for our coverage of today's County Championship.

It seems so long ago but the day began with Gloucestershire snatching victory from the jaws of defeat against Essex. You can read that match report here.

And Durham look on top going into day two at Southport against Lancashire, which you can read more about on this website shortly.

Thanks for following and have a good evening.

  2. WICKET Burnham 7 (c Croft b Procter)

    Lancashire 204 v Durham 88-3

We have a final wicket of the day that brings the close of play, as Luke Procter gets his second wicket of the evening session.

Jack Burnham edges him to Steven Croft for just seven as Lancashire have pulled themselves back into this match, but are still just 116 ahead with seven wickets remaining.

  3. WICKET Stoneman 40 (c Moores b Procter)

    Lancashire 204 v Durham 76-2

Well that change of tactics worked! After Kerrigan's first over goes for three, Proctor gets the big wicket of Mark Stoneman with his fifth ball.

Stoneman edges the ball behind to wicketkeeper Tom Moores, who takes his maiden catch in first-class cricket.

  4. Post update

    Lancashire 204 v Durham 72-1

We have our first spell from Simon Kerrigan and Luke Procter for Lancashire today. The hosts are really under the proverbial cosh at Southport as Mark Stoneman (40) is making his way to 50 for the fourth time in the Championship this season.

  5. Close call

    Lancashire 204 v Durham 60-1

It just isn't Lancashire's day today as Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick bring up the fifty partnership.

  6. Post update

    Lancashire 204 v Durham 55-1

Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick are going along rather nicely at Southport, with the former having hit six fours and prompting an early bowling change as Tom Smith replaces Kyle Jarvis.

But despite that Smith has gone for 14 off his two overs.

  7. Post update

    Lancashire 204 v Durham 32-1

Mark Stoneman is not hanging about. He has found the boundary five times in the 16 balls he has faced so far, reaching 24 after losing his opening partner Keaton Jennings.

Stoneman survived a caught behind appeal in the second innings and is ploughing on.

  8. WICKET Jennings 2 (c Smith b Anderson)

    Lancashire 204 v Durham 7-1

    Oh Jimmy, Jimmy!

In his second over since injury, James Anderson has a wicket. Keaton Jennings edges to the slips off a bouncer and Anderson is back in business.

Could he be in line for an England recall in time for the second Test against Pakistan at Old Trafford?

  9. Post update

    Lancashire 204 v Durham 3-0

James Anderson is opening the bowling for Lancashire at Southport after the hosts take the new ball. All eyes upon him...

And it goes for three runs.

  10. Post update

    Lancashire 204 v Durham

  11. WICKET Croft 54 (c & b Rushworth)

    Lancashire 204 v Durham

James Anderson had very little time to show us his batting prowess as his last-stand partner Steven Croft becomes the second man to be caught and bowled today.

This time, Chris Rushworth holds on to a return catch to take his card to 4-30 off 16.1 overs, which included six maidens. Impressive figures.

Durham are very much in control of this match. Lancashire will be hoping 'The Burnley Lara' can do them a favour and get them back on track.

  12. Batting point for Lancs

    Lancashire 200-9 v Durham

  13. WICKET Parkinson (b Rushworth)

    Lancashire 197-9 v Durham

Steven Croft might get stranded here as Matt Parkinson is bowled by Chris Rushworth for an 11-ball duck.

That brings James Anderson out to bat, back after an injury that kept him out of England's first Test against Pakistan. Let's see what his famous batting can bring...

  14. Post update

Gloucestershire defeat Essex by 61 runs

Gloucestershire defeated Essex in a cracking game at Cheltenham earlier today, and one of the home players had this to say on Twitter...

  15. 50 for Croft

    Lancashire 196-8 v Durham

And there it is! I didn't put the mockers on it!

Steven Croft has reached 50 for the third time in the Championship this summer as he looks to rebuild Lancashire's innings.

His 50 so far has included six fours and a six. A SIX!

  16. WICKET Kerrigan 11 (c Richardson b Rushworth)

    Lancashire 195-8 v Durham

Chris Rushworth has his second wicket of the innings as Simon Kerrigan nicks behind for 11 runs. Steven Croft, about to reach his fifty, has a lot of work to do to help save this Lancashire innings.

  17. Post update

    Lancashire 188-7 v Durham

Loving the bits of blue sky bursting through the clouds at Southport.

  18. Tea

    Lancashire 188-7 v Durham

Tea is being taken at Southport now and Durham will be very happy with their day's work so far. Five wickets fell in the afternoon session, with Steven Croft holding the fort for Lancashire with 46 so far.

  19. WICKET Jarvis 2 (c & b Jennings)

    Lancashire 168-7 v Durham

Steven Croft may have been the one batsman that was struggling to deal with Ben Stokes, but the man at the other end Kyle Jarvis has lasted less time than him.

Keaton Jennings has his second wicket of the game in just his third over to well and truly put visitors Durham on top at Southport after Jarvis drives the ball right back at him.

  20. Post update

    Lancashire 168-6 v Durham

Ben Stokes is getting very heavily involved in this match so far, continuing his comeback from a knee injury and tormenting Steven Croft.

England's selectors will have their eye on this match.
