  1. 'Rashid has a spring in his step'

    Michael Vaughan

Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

England's bowling today was excellent. Adil Rashid has more confidence in himself at this level. He's got a spring in his step; his body language is much better than a year ago. He's found that he belongs here. He looks himself in the mirror and says, 'I can play Test cricket'. He's played a lot of first-class cricket but you still need to learn how to play at this level.

This England attack is an attack that any captain in the world would want.

  2. 'We need quick wickets'

England spinner Adil Rashid, who has figures of 3-81, speaking on Sky Sports: "At the moment bowling feels OK. It goes through patches. Sometimes you feel good, sometimes you don’t. I'm trying to stick to the basics.

"If we have a positive mindset, going out tomorrow knowing we can score big runs, I think we’ll be OK. We need to get the three or four wickets quickly."

  3. 'Ashwin and Jadeja look dangerous'

    Michael Vaughan

Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

Ashwin and Jadeja are looking very dangerous. If that lead starts to get to 50 or 70, then it's looking very dangerous. We're not sure about Haseeb Hameed - will he bat in the second innings?

    Michael Vaughan

Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

It's been a real good day for Test cricket. It's bizarre to see batsmen keep getting out to not great bowling. I expected India to go on and get a big score. England will be delighted with that last session and to be back in the Test match.

Vinesh Kurup: The #Indiavsengland game is a match to find which team has a stronger tail.

England took everything that came their way after tea, but India have defused the problem. IF England could get them out for another 50, they'd take that.

  7. Post update

    Chris Woakes makes a catch

Some excellent fielding from England immediately after tea. Woakes' catch to dismiss Pujara was sensational, as was Buttler's run out of Karun Nair. It was Stokes who made the big breakthrough, forcing Kohli to edge behind and end his almost inevitable march towards another ton. But Ashwin and Jadeja's resistance will have frustrated England, especially watching that new ball be flayed to all parts of the ground. They trail by just 12 runs.

    Vic Marks

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

It's on course to be a perfect game if there are no more than 20 or 30 runs between the sides after this innings because every run counts in the third innings.

  9. Close of play - Ind 271-6

    Ashwin 57, Jadeja 31

Anderson with the last over the day, and the field he sets positively screams 'hello, short ball.' Ashwin hammers it away into mid wicket and wanders through for an easy single. That's his work done for the day. Cook, at slip, is looking tremendously grumpy. Jadeja defends back up the pitch and that's yer lot for the day.

  10. Post update

    Vic Marks

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

Ashwin and Jadeja have scored so quickly in the last half hour that the pendulum has swung.

Gibbo: No point in playing a 3rd spinner who only bowls 5 overs. Bring in Ball/Finn who can clean up the tail bowling 90mph.

  12. Ind 270-6

    Trail by 13

Woakes and Jadeja engage in a staring competition as the batsman mistimes a drive; Jadeja grins at Woakes, who just glares in response. The field promptly shuffles around for what looks like a bit of short stuff. There it is - it whistles through to Bairstow with Jadeja momentarily thinking of taking it on, before ducking underneath.

  13. How's stat?!

    Andrew Samson

    BBC Test Match Special statistician

Ashwin has scored a fifty in all three first innings in the series. This half-century came off 77 balls, his quickest of the series.

  14. Ind 269-6

    Ashwin 55, Jadeja 31

Shot again from Ashwin, who drives Anderson down to the boundary, his elbow perfectly placed. This will not be improving Jimmy's mood. The crowd, who have been quiet since the tea break, suddenly burst into life as Ashwin decides he likes the feel of the new ball on the bat.

  15. Post update

    Vic Marks

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

I'm beginning to wonder if it was such a good idea to take the new ball after all.

  16. 50 for Ashwin

    Ind 264-8

    Ravi Ashwin

Glorious from Ashwin, driving an overpitched delivery from Anderson away for four to bring up his half-century. His teammates are on their feet up on the balcony. He might not be able to run but you don't need to when you'er hitting them like that.
