  1. Farewell

No England in the final, but we will be here on Wednesday for Australia against New Zealand and we'd like your company too.

There were 488 runs in only 38.5 overs when the teams last met so we should be in for plenty more entertainment when they return to Eden Park in Auckland. Please join us from 05:40 GMT, but until then, cheerio now.

It feels like a defeat because England haven't progressed to the final against Australia.

Plenty of stunning strokeplay then but the catch of the day came in the crowd, from Rudi Bosman, who was swiftly presented with a cheque for NZ$ 50,000 for fulfilling the criteria of a clean catch one-handed while wearing an orange vest. Plenty of jubilation around him too, considering how they might have barged past him to take it and claim the cash for themselves.

We also saw one powerfully built gentleman swallow dive across around three rows in an attempt to take one, disturbing a petite lady's sedate picnic in the process. Remarkable scenes. Can't see it at Lord's, though, can you?

He certainly did. The left-hander favoured the leg side but why not as that's where they mainly bowled to him. Seven sixes in his 57 and fifty from 18 balls.

It wasn't the fastest in T20 internationals - that remains Yuvraj Singh's 12-ball blast against England in 2007. It wasn't even Munro's fastest - he has previously made one from only 16 balls against Sri Lanka. But it was still mightily impressive.

England know that they didn't bowl too well in the powerplay. But credit to Munro - he batted beautifully.

    Colin Munro
  7. Post update

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson on Sky Sports: "Colin Munro was brilliant at the top of the order. Spin on that surface was probably the biggest challenge. England's spinners were clever throughout that period. Credit to how England played tonight."

    Eoin Morgan and Liam Dawson
  8. 'We shouldn't play T20 internationals'

England coach Trevor Bayliss on Sky Sports: "I wouldn't play T20 internationals. If you want to play a World Cup every four years, then let the teams play T20s for six months before that. I'd just let the franchises play."

Dan3001: Morgan to replace Bayliss as coach next year. Terrific tactician, could be sub fielder, progressive thinker, develop Root's captaincy?

  10. Should England have separate coaches for Test and limited-overs?

England coach Trevor Bayliss on the possibility of splitting the Test and ODI/T20 coaching: "It's definitely the way it's heading. If we continue to put in so many games, there will be a certain amount of blow-out, not just with players but with coaches as well."

  11. Post update

So the final will be between Australia and New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday - and if we get a repeat of the match between the teams earlier in the week we will in for a festival of boundaries.

Guptill and Munro hit 15 sixes between them in an opening stand of 132 but Australia made 244 to win with seven balls left, the highest T20 run chase.

  12. Post update

England coach Trevor Bayliss on Sky Sports: "We failed to score runs at the top of the order again.

"They got off to a good start and the way we came back into the game was good. We've got some work to do there, definitely."

On where England have gone wrong in the T20 series: "The lack of runs. I don't think we've batted well since the third ODI against Australia."

Given how New Zealand did in that powerplay, they should have done that with ease.

Yes, England haven't got through to the final. But they can take a lot of heart from defending 13 off nine balls in a T20 international. That is an exceptional finish by Chris Jordan and Tom Curran. England will learn a lot from those last few overs.

  15. 'The two finalists are deserved'

England captain Eoin Morgan, named man-of-the-match for his unbeaten 80 from 46 balls, is asked how the victory feels: "Not that good to be honest, we obviously don't go through. I thought we created chances to defend 174 but given the start they had it was difficult for our attack. We just haven't been good enough throughout the campaign, slow to get our skills, and I think the two finalists are deserved."

Liam Dawson and Adil Rashid were outstanding. That partnership with the ball was the difference.

Could Eoin Morgan have turned to spin in the powerplay?

  18. Post update

    James Taylor

I feel Eoin Morgan doesn't trust Adil Rashid in those first six overs.

  19. Post update

England needed to restrict New Zealand to 174 to qualify for the final on run-rate but Colin Munro's exceptional hitting, with seven sixes in his 57, took the Kiwis to 77 after the six powerplay overs.

Well done to England - there's a lot of credit to be given to the bowlers. It was a good overall performance - senior batsmen stood up and the bowlers came into play. But it was too late.
