    England celebrate

Well that is all from us today. England win by 31 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method after another wet finish. Thankfully today we got enough overs in to complete the game.

Click here to read up on the game if you missed anything.

The tour rumbles on to Kandy for the third ODI on Wednesday. That one is a day-nighter and starts at 10:00 BST.

We'll be there to take you through it and The Cricket Social will be on air once again.

    See you then!

  2. 'England played outstanding cricket'

Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal: "Credit to England, they played some outstanding cricket especially when bowling. We competed really well when bowling, and apart from the first seven or eight overs when batting we competed really well. The energy in the field was good to see, and was a plus point today.

"We are always giving away three or four wickets, and that’s an area we have to improve in as a unit, because that was a winning target."

  3. 'We have more gears'

More from Eoin Morgan at the presentation: "I was extremely scratchy for the first 30 balls but having someone like Joe Root at the other end is always a huge help. We enjoy batting together. I would have liked us to kick on towards 300 but Sri Lanka came back into the game beautifully.

"The two Warwickshire boys (Olly Stone and Chris Woakes) set the tone from the start. Woakes is an experienced campaigner and an awesome guy to have in our team. Olly showed what he has shown on the tour. He bowled with an extra yard of pace and showed a great attitude.

"I would like to think we have a few more gears. Today we have done enough to get a win but we won't be that satisfied with the performance.

  4. 'Not our best game'

England captain Eoin Morgan at the presentation: "It was not a bad start to the series. We have had a halted start in training and the first game with the rain. I wouldn't say it was our best game. The batting managed scrape something together. We should have gone past a par score but ended up scraping to that.

"It was not a bad run-out for us. Myself and Joe (Root) found a way to score. Lasith (Malinga) came back and bowled particularity well at the end. He still has a lot to offer. We need to work on that moving forward."

Eoin Morgan has been named man of the match for his 92.

This England team doesn't care where they play, they are winning everywhere. They have so much confidence and have so much faith in their process that they know they can beat anyone anywhere.

It is good to go 1-0 up in the series.

You can't be overcritical of the batting at the end of the innings. Malinga bowled extremely well but having said that England have to go away and think about how they will play him. He looks back to his best.

The presentation is about to take place indoors with the monsoon still going on outside in Dambulla.

It is fascinating that Olly Stone is in the team considering England have other options in Sam and Tom Curran and Mark Wood. They do have other pace options.

When you see a guy take his first international wicket which is gloved through to the keeper you think 'wow we have got something interesting here'.

  9. Post update

It was hard not to get a little excited watching Olly Stone bowl for the first time in an England shirt today.

He bounced out Niroshan Dickwella in his second over with a short delivery that was gloved through to Jos Buttler.

Stone's first ball in the match, and his first for England was also excellent. It was 87mph, just back of a length and beat the bat.

He continued to pass the bat a number of times, mostly due to his pace which was up at 90mph at times.

It looks like England will be too strong for Sri Lanka in this series. The batsmen managed to make runs even though the pitch was not that easy.

So it's a wet end to this match in Dambulla. England take a 1-0 lead in this series.

It's still raining. I have seen this scene many times since I arrived in Dambulla this week. It is a ground covered in Dambulla with lots of pools of water on it.

England did well enough with the bat. They were efficient and had that new-ball blitz.

We don't even have to wait another half an hour.

The umpires have made the sensible decision to call this match off.

England beaten Sri Lanka by 31 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.

The word here is we should get a decision in the next half hour, and that decision will surely be to end this game. It's still raining, and there's no sign of it stopping.

  15. Jimmy Anderson Q and A

    James Anderson

England fast bowler on The Cricket Social

Have you ever changed your mind while running up to bowl?

I am not able to count the number of times I have changed my mind. The main one is thinking ‘I’ll bowl a bouncer’ then not committing and it gets pulled for four. Generally, you change your mind and bad things happen.

Peter Bowden: If you want to see rain come to Sri Lanka in May. Though saying that last day there was 330 mm in a day in Colombo. You get used to it if you live here....

Lukeee: This ODI series is a nightmare.. And possibly the worst idea to tour sri Lanka in October it's almost like touring England In December.. (minus the 30 degree heat )

    Rain delay

It's still pouring down by the way.

Sky have switched back to highlights which tells it's own story about the prospects of play.

A reminder that if there is no more play today then England win on Duckworth Lewis.

    Eoin Morgan

If you missed the England innings, which started early this morning, then you missed an excellent knock from England's captain Eoin Morgan.

The pitch has been tricky to bat on but he played as well as anyone. He combined well with Joe Root in a 68-run stand and also put on 50 with Ben Stokes.

Morgan scored 92 from his 91 balls and was unfortunate to chip one back to Malinga for a caught and bowled, falling just short of his century.

He hit 11 fours and two big sixes.

  19. James Anderson Q and A

    James Anderson

England fast bowler on The Cricket Social

What does Jimmy consider his best performance for England?

I bowled a really good spell in Brisbane and got no wickets so people won’t be interested! In the 2013 Ashes I got 10 wickets when we won by 14 runs (at Trent Bridge) - as a player you want to contribute so a match-winning performance like that gives you the most satisfaction.
