It's been remarkable. When England won the toss, I thought that was game over, but the manner of their batting - they're playing with great maturity. The partnership between Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root took the sting out of the game. Root is the glue in this team which allows the likes of Bairstow to play aggressively.

Eoin Morgan was dropped on 26 and boy did he make Afghanistan pay.

It is a big hit here. Morgan was hitting it into the party stand halfway up. This was Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, experienced pros in T20 cricket and first picks in franchises. Eoin Morgan just decided to start striking.

  4. Post update

Today we saw one of the best one-day innings of all-time by an England player.

Eoin Morgan dismantled a poor bowling attack.

He hit 17 sixes in his 148 from 77 balls. That set a new record for sixes in an ODI innings.

What a performance by England, particularly with the bat. It was tremendous ball-striking.

And England are now top of the pile...

    BBC Test Match Special

England have won this contest comprehensively.

  8. BreakingENGLAND WIN BY 150 RUNS

The game ends with another nasty bouncer from Jofra Archer which is fended away.

    England win by 150 runs!

It's a day that'll be remembered for Eoin Morgan's magnificent innings.

  9. How's stat?!

    Andy Zaltzman

    Test Match Special statistician

This is the fourth three-for for Jofra Archer in this World Cup - no England bowler had previously taken three in a World Cup.

  10. Afg 247-8

A man with a Yorkshire flag stands and applauds Bairstow. How did he get that flag into Old Trafford?

    One ball to go.

  11. WICKET

    Rashid c Bairstow b Archer 8 (Afg 247-8)

Jonny Bairstow hangs on this time. He's dropped two but has now caught two. With little to lose, Rashid Khan swipes at one but Bairstow holds on at deep extra cover.

Bairstow turns and smiles to the party stand behind him.

It's a third wicket for Jofra Archer.

This has been such an improvement on what we've seen so far from Afghanistan. They did make it a little too easy for England - Rashid Khan in particular started to bowl a little slower and floated it up there.

  13. Afg 246-7

Archer is still bowling over 90mph and shapes to throw the stumps down in follow-through. Plenty of aggression there.

Afghanistan need four runs to get to the landmark of 250. Can they do it?

Magnificent. Mark Wood has been used at the right times by Eoin Morgan - when he needs breakthroughs, when he wants to put batsmen under pressure.

  15. Afg 246-7

A dot ball bouncer sees Mark Wood finish with 2-40 from his 10 overs. He doesn't get all of the hype that Jofra Archer does but he's been just as effective.

Archer will bowl the last over of this entertaining contest.

  16. Afg 244-7

Rashid Khan is still swinging from the hip. He has had little success but this time he gets bat on ball. James Vince dives but can't stop the boundary.

It causes a little dent to Mark Wood's impressive figures.

  17. Afg 239-7

    Target 398

Rashid Khan bats away a 91mph, hip-high full toss from Jofra Archer. That's not the kind of thing you want to have to deal with in this situation.

It's time for a bit of 'Hi Ho Silver Lining' now. The DJ is going through all of the classics.

    12 balls to go.

    Michael Vaughan

Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

I think Mark Wood has snuck under the radar. We've all been talking about Jofra Archer and maybe that's helped him.

  19. Afg 236-7

It's getting more and more boisterous late in the day in the stands. There are chants of "INSERT PLAYERS NAME HERE give us a wave".

On the pitch, the game is slowly coming to a close. Rashid Khan tries another heave but only gets a couple.

  20. Afg 235-7

Two ambitious shots from Rashid Khan to Mark Wood. He makes contact with neither of them. The first Rashid tried to pull and duck in one shot. It was pretty ugly.

Three overs to go. Afghanistan need only 163 more runs to win.
