Poor. Very poor. It almost wasn't a contest. It felt bigger than a 64-run defeat.

    Australia's left-arm duo took 9-87. Eeeesh.

Australia just continue to grow in this tournament. I think today they got their bowling better than in any other game.

I don't think England looked on it for the first 15 overs. I don't think they looked the same England side in the warm-ups. They looked a team that arrived today knowing they could lose the game. I've not seen that for a few years.

The standing of Aaron Finch as a Test cricketer, not just an ODI one - will he be forcing his way into the squad? That in itself will be a fascinating announcement.

  6. Man of the match

Australia captain Aaron Finch: "I didn't play too badly. Any time you contribute to a win that's the most important thing. To get sent in on a wicket that was seaming about was hard, Woakes played a hell of a spell and we came through it to set up a nice foundation with Dave Warner.

"There are teams that you have confidence playing against but I have had plenty of low scores against England as well. It was nipping around first thing, we were as tight as we could be and then took advantage of any width."

I think if Eoin Morgan had his time again, he would have batted first. You can have an off day - it happens. But losing to Sri Lanka should not happen. And that's why England are in this position and they've given themselves a huge mountain to climb.

England's performance against Sri Lanka is the one I think we'll be talking about a lot over the last week or so. There's no way they should have lost that game.

  9. Post update

As it stands England are in fourth but they have two games left - against India and New Zealand.

With so many games still to come for the teams below them it's hard to say exactly what they need from those two games but it's certainly going to be tense now...

Australia's players look unsurprisingly chuffed as they line up for handshakes in the long room. Mitchell Starc can put his feet up for two games now. England have to wait and see how Bangladesh get on.

  11. Post update

Chris Woakes was one man caught trying to hit a six, he wasn't the first or the last.

England haven't felt that bristling presence today that they've treated us to for the last four years. They made everyone think they were invincible - but that's not their fate today.

  13. Post update

So one team have nailed their place in the last four, and it ain't England.

A thoroughly disappointing performance comes to an end. It's been a convincing victory for Australia. Another failure to chase for England and that puts them in a spot of trouble now.

  15. Post update

Australia win by 64 runs. made it look easy.

Shot! Adil Rashid leans back and clips Mitch Starc away for another four. He then nearly messes up a ramp shot and gets out caught behind.
