Live Reporting

By Jamie Lillywhite and Ben Pheazey

All times stated are UK

  1. Farewell

So just three matches tomorrow but important matters to finalise as we see just how much of a lead Somerset will take into the penultimate round of matches in their quest for that elusive maiden Championship crown. Many thanks for being with us, please join us again from 10:00 BST. Cheerio now.

  2. Lancs secure Division One return

Many congratulations to Lancashire though, back in Division One after victory by an innings and 45 runs at Old Trafford. Spinners Matt Parkinson (3-28) and Glenn Maxwell (3-39) helped to skittle out Derbyshire for just 129.

  3. 'I'm embarrassed, everyone's embarrassed'

Downcast from Trent Bridge too as Notts skipper and 5 Live Sports Extra summariser Steven Mullaney saw his team collapse to a 227-run defeat against Kent.

"Embarrassing, hurtful - basically we are relegated now and it's not a nice feeling. I've been here before and it doesn't get any easier, " he says.

"But the way the whole season has gone has been well below what we expect of everybody, myself included. We've still got a bit of pride left to play for but that is pretty much it.

"It's just not acceptable. I'm embarrassed, everyone's embarrassed."

  4. 'It was embarrassing'

No punches pulled by Surrey's Australian coach Michael Di Venuto, whose team have lost by 272 runs against Hampshire, having had the hosts at 80-8 on day one.

"It was embarrassing," he tells BBC London, after Hampshire's part-time spinner Felix Organ took 5-25 in the second innings. "I've been involved in a lot of cricket and that was some of the worst cricket I have ever seen. We are carrying a lot of people in the cricket team and you can't do that and expect to play good cricket. We have got a lot of people that just aren't in good enough form.

"There's certainly a lack of confidence there. They should be em there are eight days left in the season and the players need to put performances on the board. if they keep performing like that they can't come whinging when they find themselves playing second team cricket."

  5. Close of play

    Glos 197-6

And it's stumps at Bristol where there has been more bad light today. Gloucestershire will start the final day against Sussex only 27 ahead with four wickets remaining.

  6. Close of play

    Nort 22-0

All over for the day at Grace Road. So we will see some play there tomorrow, Northants needing a further 119 against Leicestershire.

    Lancs 418 v Derbys 244 & 129

Promotion confirmed! Lancashire wrap it up with two overs to spare before stumps as the rain falls a few minutes too late for Derbyshire at Old Trafford.

Ravi Rampaul survives for four balls.

He then decides to belt Matt Parkinson somewhere into the city centre.

It's a horrid miscue and the ball goes straight up.... and down into the gloves of Dane Vilas, running towards short extra cover.

Lancashire are guaranteed promotion to Division One and can seal the Division Two title if they beat Middlesex next week.

  8. Bad light stops play

    Nort 22-0

They have gone off at Grace Road and the covers are being brought out to the centre, with the umpires and groundsmen in earnest conversation. Northants need a further 119 to beat Leicestershire with all 10 wickets intact.

  9. WICKET Dal st Vilas b Parkinson 1

    Lancs 418 v Derbys 244 & 129-9 - Trail by 45

Out! Anuj Dal overbalances as he tries to clip Matt Parkinson to square leg.

    Easy stumping from Dane Vilas.

Ravi Rampaul is going to bat after all.

  10. Post update

Just the two Division Two matches in progress then, with Gloucestershire-Sussex off the field against at Bristol again because of bad light. Five results today, including comprehensive wins for Somerset, Hampshire and Kent in Division One.

  11. WICKET Hudson-Prentice run out (Davies)

    Lancs 418 v Derbys 244 & 129-8 - Trail by 45

Four overs left at Old Trafford but we might be in for an extra half hour if Lancashire can get Derbyshire nine down.

    Glenn Maxwell bowls...

Run out! Crazy single taken by Anuj Dal to cover and Fynn Hudson-Prentice is beaten by a sharp pick up and throw from Alex Davies.

Hamidullah Qadri's turn to bat. He might be the last man as Ravi Rampaul is injured.

  12. Bright start for Northants

    Leics 308 & 189 v Northants 357 & 14-0 - Target 141

    Expensive over from Will Davis.

Ben Curran gets three runs off the first ball of the innings and Rob Newton gets off the mark with a beauty of a straight drive off the back foot for four.

Two more runs to Newton off the fifth ball.

Five more singles come off the bowling of Chris Wright at the other end.

  13. Northants begin run chase at Grace Road

    Leics 308 & 189 v Northants 357 & 0-0 - Target 141

Ben Curran and Rob Newton stride out to the middle to begin the chase.

Ten overs left before stumps tonight and Will Davis will bowl first.

  14. Close of play

    Ess 278-6 v Warw 517

There will be no more play at Edgbaston today because of bad light. So Essex will begin the final day needing 22 in nine overs to secure a third batting point. They trail Warwickshire by 239 runs with four wickets remaining.

  15. Sussex restrict Glos at Bristol

    Glos 200 & 192-6 v Suss 370

    Michael Perkins

    BBC Hereford & Worcester

Gloucestershire may not have left themselves enough wickets with which to build a lead here in Bristol.

Ryan Higgins is busily going about the task, but having lost 18 year-old Ben Charlesworth with the scores level it feels as if this partnership with Jack Taylor needs to be a big one.

Jason Gillespie will be very satisfied seeing his Sussex side heading into the closing stages of their promotion challenge with plenty of momentum.

Then again if this summer's Ashes are anything to go by, momentum is next to useless as whoever has established it has seemed to go on to loose it almost as soon as they've next picked up a bat or ball.

  16. WICKET Hughes c Gleeson b Maxwell 33

    Lancs 418 v Derbys 244 & 125-7 - Trail by 49

A full-blooded sweep from Alex Hughes off Glenn Maxwell...

Brilliantly caught by Richard Gleeson at backward square leg!

Anuj Dal is the new batsman.

  17. Post update

Three of our four Division One fixtures have ended a day early then and Hampshire only five points behind third-placed Yorkshire now. Still off for bad light at Edgbaston so we may have to wait until tomorrow to discover if Essex can add another bonus point.

  18. Northants set 141 to win at Grace Road

    Leics 308 & 189 v Northants 357 - lead by 140

Chris Wright is castled by Luke Procter as the bowler gets one to nip in sharply off the seam.

    A modest target for Northants.

They'll will move above Durham into third place in Division Two if they can knock off these runs.

Morkel b Dawson 4 (Surr 151 all out)

Not any longer. It's a beautiful spinning delivery from Liam Dawson and it turns out of the rough into the left-handed Morne Morkel and rips through bat and pad into the timbers.

  20. Last man standing for Surrey

    Surr 151-9

Almost a sixth wicket for Felix Organ but he cannot cling on one-handed to Amar Virdi's flat-footed drive. Hants one wicket away from victory and Virdi is going out all guns blazing, he has lashed consecutive boundaries to bring up the 150.
