  1. Post update

Thanks for joining us as Sevilla went joint top of La Liga, Spanish champions Atletico Madrid ground out a win, French leaders Marseille ended their winning run and AC Milan were held by Fiorentina.

Join us tomorrow for the FA Cup first-round draw and then QPR v Aston Villa.

  2. FULL-TIME

    Lyon 1-0 Marseille

    Yoann Gourcuff

Ligue 1 leaders Marseille's run of eight consecutive wins is over as they have lost 1-0 to Lyon, who are now up to third with the win. Yoann Gourcuff scored the only goal midway through the first half.

Marseille are now four points clear of champions Paris St-Germain, who have yet to lose a game.

  3. FULL-TIME

    Getafe 0-1 Atletico Madrid

Action shot from Getafe v Atletico Madrid

Much like the yoghurt I ate at half-time, this game was not much to write home about and left a sour taste in the mouth at times.

But that won't bother Atletico Madrid, who move to within two points of leaders Barcelona and Sevilla.

  4. Post update

    Getafe 0-1 Atletico Madrid

Arda Turan has a chance to run at Getafe but he looks to slow it down and happily wins a throw-in. Seconds left now.

  5. INJURY TIME

    Getafe 0-1 Atletico Madrid

Three minutes of injury time as this game is getting heated, first of all Atletico's Raul Garcia is caught on the heel and then Getafe substitute Pablo Sarabia is booked for fouling Guilherme Siqueira.

  6. Post update

    Getafe 0-1 Atletico Madrid

Getafe are having a go - Karim Yoda runs at the Atletico defence and finds former Real Madrid youngster Pablo Sarabia, whose shot is blocked.

A tense final three minutes plus stoppage time at the Coliseum.

  7. SUBSTITUTION

    Getafe 0-1 Atletico Madrid

That is the last action for Mario Mandzukic, potentially the matchwinner, as he is replaced by highly rated 19-year-old Saul Niguez.

  8. FULL-TIME

    AC Milan 1-1 Fiorentina

Fiorentina get a late corner but there will be no late winner at the San Siro as Milan head clear before the referee blows the final whistle. The honours are shared but Milan drop to sixth, with Fiorentina 11th.

AC Milan's Nigel de Jong reacts to a missed chance
  9. Post update

    Getafe 0-1 Atletico Madrid

Ten minutes to go. Atletico Madrid still dominant but Getafe have had a couple of sniffs at goal.

As I write that Mario Mandzukic has a run at goal but the brilliantly named Karim Yoda snuffs out the danger.

    Karim Yoda
  10. Post update

    AC Milan 1-1 Fiorentina

AC Milan defender Alex heads a free-kick wide before the board for added time shows three minutes. Can either side engineer a late winner?

  11. GOAL

Lyon 1-0 Marseille - Yoann Gourcuff (65 mins)

Lyon have taken the lead against the Ligue 1 leaders Marseille, with Alexandre Lacazette setting up Yoann Gourcuff to apply the finishing touch to a move with a left-foot shot.

  12. Post update

    AC Milan 1-1 Fiorentina

A scare for AC Milan. Juan Vargas gets plenty of power to a rising 30-yard shot and his strike goes just wide. There are just under five minutes left.

  13. YELLOW CARD

    Getafe 0-1 Atletico Madrid

Only 18 minutes left for Atletico Madrid to see this out and move to within two points of leaders Barcelona and Sevilla.

Emiliano Velazquez - on loan from Atletico - is booked for fouling Arda Turan.

  14. SUBSTITUTION

    Getafe 0-1 Atletico Madrid

Both teams make a change with Alessio Cerci replacing Antoine Griezmann up front for Atletico Madrid and Baba Diawara coming on for Sammir, who almost scored from a corner moments earlier.

  15. SUBSTITUTION

    AC Milan 1-1 Fiorentina

There are just over 10 minutes to go and it's time for AC Milan striker Fernando Torres to come on as he replaces Jeremy Menez.

    Fernando Torres
  16. Post update

    AC Milan 1-1 Fiorentina

Fiorentina striker Khouma Babacar steals in front of a defender to get in a shot on the AC Milan goal only to blaze his effort well high.

  17. Post update

    AC Milan 1-1 Fiorentina

Jeremy Menez gets in a shot on the turn for AC Milan but his effort is blocked by Stefan Savic. Menez is appealing for handball but he might need a trip to the opticians as that was nowhere being a penalty.

  18. Post update

    Getafe 0-1 Atletico Madrid

I had thought this game was done and dusted when Alexis was sent off but Getafe almost equalised direct from a corner. Sammir's curling cross is just about to cross the line but Miguel Angel Moya does well to claw the ball off the line and away from the goal.

  19. Post update

    AC Milan 1-1 Fiorentina

There's about 20 minutes to go and they look like providing an exciting end to the game as both sides chase a winner. That's what we like to see.

  20. SUBSTITUTION

    AC Milan 1-1 Fiorentina

It's AC Milan coach Filippo Inzaghi's time to make his move. He takes off midfielder Andrea Poli and replaces him with Giacomo Bonaventura. Juan Vargas also comes on for Fiorentina with midfielder Matias Fernandez making way.

  21. RED CARD TO GETAFE

    Getafe 0-1 Atletico Madrid

Alexis tries and fails to nutmeg Mario Mandzukic, who then pushes him in the back as he is on the floor. The defender is livid and swings an arm in the striker's face as he runs past - definite red card.

A melee follows and Atletico defender Miranda is booked for shoving Juan Rodriguez, with replays showing the Getafe player had stood on Mandzukic, who was still on the ground injured - causing Miranda's angry reaction.

  22. Post update

    Getafe 0-1 Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid keeper Miguel Angel Moya makes a triple save, the first of which was from his own defender Diego Godin. He then makes a hash of an Alexis header, parrying it back into the danger zone and then has to make another save - from Emiliano Velazquez - to make up for his error.

That's probably doubled Getafe's shots tally.

  23. GOAL

AC Milan 1-1 Fiorentina - Josip Ilicic (64 mins)

Talk about a telling substitution. Fiorentina break after clearing an AC Milan free-kick and Josip Ilicic, who had just come on, runs at the home side's back line before firing a low 22-yard left-foot strike into the bottom corner.

    Josip Illicic scores for Fiorentina
  24. Post update

    AC Milan 1-0 Fiorentina

AC Milan keeper Christian Abbiati finally has some work to do. Fiorentina midfielder Alberto Aquilani produces a decent strike from 25-yards but it's a comfortable gather for Abbiati.

  25. KICK-OFF

    Getafe 0-1 Atletico Madrid

Second half has kicked off, no changes for either side - although Getafe did make a change late in the second half.

  26. SUBSTITUTION

    AC Milan 1-0 Fiorentina

Fiorentina haven't really threatened an equaliser and boss Vincenzo Montella goes for an early second-half substitution as he brings on midfielder Josip Ilicic for Jasmin Kurtic.

    Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella
  27. Post update

    AC Milan 1-0 Fiorentina

Jeremy Menez has options as Milan catch Fiorentina short on numbers at the back but the France forward decides to shoot instead of passing to a team-mate and sees his low effort saved by keeper Neto.

  28. Half-time

    Lyon 0-0 Marseille

Action shot from Lyon v Marseille

Lyon and Marseille can't be separated at the Stade de Gerland as it remains goalless.

Chances have been few and far between but Andre Ayew did shot saved for Marseille, while a Nabil Fekir effort at the other end went high.

Marseille have also been forced to replace Brice Dja Djedje with Mario Lemina because of an injury.

  29. Post update

    AC Milan 1-0 Fiorentina

We're under way for the second half at the San Siro.

  30. HALF-TIME

    Getafe 0-1 Atletico Madrid

Getafe made a change in the aftermath of that goal with Naldo coming on for Juan Valera in defence.

    Half-time now at the Coliseum.

  31. GOAL

Getafe 0-1 Atletico Madrid - Mario Mandzukic (40 mins)

Mario Mandzukic scores fro Atletico Madrid

Atletico lead and it's been coming. Koke's corner is volleyed towards goal by Raul Garcia, Getafe fail to clear, Arda Turan can't turn the ball goalwards but he does (inadvertently) square it to big summer signing Mario Mandzukic who nets from close range.

  32. Post update

    Getafe 0-0 Atletico Madrid

    Diego Simeone

Maybe the best chance of the game as Raul Garcia shoots first-time after Getafe fail to clear their lines properly but his shot is pretty weak and Vicente Guaita palms it away.

The midfielder should have done better.

  33. Post update

    Getafe 0-0 Atletico Madrid

    Raul Garcia

Atletico Madrid still on top at the Coliseum but Getafe are holding firm at the moment. The mid-table hosts, from the outskirts of Madrid, are not offering much in the way of an attacking force.

    Ten minutes until the break.

  34. Half-time

    AC Milan 1-0 Fiorentina

Fiorentina are trying to engineer a way through Milan's defence but their passing in the final third is badly letting them down.

It's been too comfortable for the home side and Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella has some work to do to inspire his side at the break.

Aidan McGrattan: Honda has been a revelation for Milan this season. Glad to see him finally at a top European club.

  36. Post update

    Getafe 0-0 Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid full-back Guilherme Siqueira makes a fool of a Getafe defender out wide and tries to beat keeper Vicente Guaita at his near post, but the Getafe custodian denies him.

The Brazilian summer signing, a replacement for Chelsea's Felipe Luis, apologises to his team-mates for going for glory himself.

  37. Post update

    AC Milan 1-0 Fiorentina

    Colombia winger Juan Cuadrado

Colombia winger Juan Cuadrado looked a top player during the 2014 World Cup but he's struggling to make an impact for Fiorentina tonight.

He's working hard but those penetrating runs at opposition defences just aren't coming off and his passing is leaving a lot to be desired. He needs to have a word with himself.

  38. Post update

    Getafe 0-0 Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke drags a shot wide from outside the box but it's not enough to worry Vicente Guaita, who watches it roll wide.

Getafe coach Cosmin Contra is giving his team some tactic advice from the sidelines but he needn't look too concerned.

  39. Post update

    Getafe 0-0 Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid's Raul Garcia is barged over in the box by Velazquez Maldonado, who is actually on loan from the Spanish champions. There are few appeals for a penalty however.

Atletico struggling to find a killer pass in these early stages but Diego Simeone won't be worrying too much, I suspect.

  40. GOAL

AC Milan 1-0 Fiorentina - Nigel de Jong (25 mins)

    Nigel de Jong scores
    Nigel de Jong celebrates

Nigel de Jong puts AC Milan in front. A cross is floated to the far post where Cristian Zapata nods it back across goal and combative midfielder De Jong rises highest to guide a header into the bottom corner. Great timing as this game needed a goal big style.

  41. Post update

    AC Milan 0-0 Fiorentina

AC Milan forward Stephan El Shaarawy tries to curl a shot into the top corner but Fiorentina keeper Neto tips the ball wide at full stretch. Nice save but the effort wouldn't have counted if it had gone in as the assistant's flag had gone up.

Lewis Smith: Umtiti & N'Koulou are two proper commanding centre-backs. Would be great to see them in prem. Liverpool could do with Lacazette!

  43. Post update

    Getafe 0-0 Atletico Madrid

    Arda Turan

Atletico Madrid have dominated play so far at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez with Arda Turan involved with much of it - but no goals yet.

Not enough stadiums are called coliseums - would many teams would fancy a daunting-sounding trip to the Villa Coliseum?

  44. Post update

    AC Milan 0-0 Fiorentina

Milan are seeing plenty of the ball but struggling to find the killer pass to break through Fiorentina. The visitors try to launch an attack but ex-Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani launches a terrible pass. He tries to spread the ball to the right flank only to slice his attempt and give Milan keeper Christian Abbiati catching practice. Like I said, terrible.

  45. Post update

    Getafe 0-0 Atletico Madrid

    Atletico Madrid fans

We are under way in the Madrid derby. Well a Madrid derby.

  46. Post update

    Lyon v Marseille (20:00 GMT)

    French Ligue 1

Marseille are currently defying the odds in France's top division but the pressure is back on them today as they make the trip north to face Lyon.

Moneybags Paris St-Germain beat Bordeaux on Saturday to close the gap on Marseille to four points so how will manager Marcelo Bielsa's side respond?

The match at the Stade de Gerland also sees a match-up between Ligue 1's leading goal getters. Marseille's Andre-Pierre Gignac has 10 so far this season, while Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette has eight.

Hugh in France: Re. John McEnerney (19:45): the same is true of OL v OM. Once a game of great, well known players. Now one of up-and-comings.

Lyon: Lopes, Jallet, Bisevac, Umtiti, Bedimo, Gonalons, Ferri, Tolisso, Gourcuff, Lacazette, Fekir.

Marseille: Mandanda, Dja Djedje, N'Koulou, Morel, Mendy, Romao, Imbula, Thauvin, Payet, A Ayew, Gignac.

  48. Post update

    AC Milan 0-0 Fiorentina

The rarity of an Englishman playing abroad is Micah Richards, who is on loan at Fiorentina from Manchester City.

Technically, the right-back isn't playing at the moment as he's on the bench but he did play in the midweek Europa League win over PAOK Salonika.

    Micah Richards
  49. Post update

    AC Milan 0-0 Fiorentina

The home side have made the stronger start as they have a couple of shots at goal only for their efforts to be blocked by a Fiorentina side back in numbers.

  50. Late drama at the top

    Spanish La Liga

    Denis Suarez

Sevilla have just moved joint top of the Spanish table with Barcelona after coming from behind to beat Villarreal 2-1 with two late goals.

Luciano Vietto gave the Yellow Submarine a 79th-minute lead but Denis Suarez equalised nine minutes later and Carlos Bacca scored an injury-time winner from the spot.

  51. Post update

    AC Milan 0-0 Fiorentina

Milan have the first shot on goal through Jeremy Menez but, with the angle against him, the France international's strike is wayward and goes well high.

  53. Post update

AC Milan v Fiorentina (19:45 GMT)

    Italian Serie A

The match is under way at the San Siro with Fiorentina having kicked off.

  54. Remember him?

AC Milan v Fiorentina (19:45 GMT)

He used to be one of world football's most lethal marksman and played for Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Chelsea.

In recent seasons though, we have seen him sulk and struggle around the pitch with his powers and pace on the wane.

I am, of course, talking about Fernando Torres, who is on loan at AC Milan from Chelsea after his £50m move to the Blues failed to work out.

He has one goal in five outings for Milan so is he ready to show he's not finished yet? We'll see. He's on the bench for today's game.

  55. Team news

Getafe v Atletico Madrid (20:00 GMT)

    Spanish La Liga

Atletico Madrid make one change from the team who beat Malmo 5-0 during the week as Raul Garcia comes in for Saul Niguez in midfield.

Getafe: Guaita, Valera, Ruano Delgado, Velazquez Maldonado, Escudero, Rodriguez Villamuela, Lacen, Karim Yoda, Cruz Campos, Hinestroza, Lafita.

Atletico Madrid: Moya, Juanfran, Miranda, Godin, Siqueira, Suarez, Koke, Raul Garcia, Turan, Griezmann, Mandzukic.

  56. Post update

Getafe v Atletico Madrid (20:00 GMT)

    Spanish La Liga

Atletico Madrid will have had a keen eye on yesterday's El Clasico and, while they won't admit to it, the victory of arch-rivals Real Madrid probably did them a favour as it stopped Barcelona extending their lead at the top.

La Liga champions Atletico can now move within two points of leaders Barcelona, although Getafe are unbeaten in three league games will have something to say about that at their Coliseum Alfonso Perez stadium.

  57. Full-time

    Olympiakos 1-0 Panathinaikos

    Greek Superleague

It's all over in the battle of the eternal enemies and Olympiakos have come out on top thanks to a goal from defender Anastasios Avlonitis.

  58. Post update

    Napoli 6-2 Hellas Verona

    Italian Serie A

    Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain

Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain scored a hat-trick against Verona today to ease the pressure on manager Rafael Benitez.

The Napoli bus was attacked after the side lost 2-0 to Young Boys in Bern in the Europa League in midweek.

Benitez's side weren't looking too clever when Emil Hallfredsson gave Verona the lead after just 26 seconds but Higuain's treble, along with two goals from Marek Hamsik and one from Jose Callejon, gave Napoli a big win.

  59. Post update

    Borussia Monchengladbach 0-0 Bayern Munich

    German Bundesliga

Fresh from their 7-1 thumping of Roma in the Champions League in midweek, Bayern Munich had to settle for a goalless draw at Borussia Monchengladbach.

Both sides retained their unbeaten starts to the league season, although each went close to winning it.

Monchengladbach keeper Yann Sommer tipped a David Alaba shot on to the post, while Bayern stopper Manuel Neuer denied Andre Hahn following a counter-attack.

Bayern now top the Bundesliga by four points from Monchengladbach, Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim.

    Juventus 2-0 Palermo

    Italian Serie A

Juventus are the dominant force in Italian football these days and they were in action earlier as they extended their lead at the top of Serie A to three points with a win over Palermo.

Having seen rivals Roma slip up on Saturday by being held 0-0 by Sampdoria, Juve made sure they capitalised.

Arturo Vidal and Fernando Llorente got the goals for the Old Lady as they made up for some of the disappointment of being beaten by Olympiakos in the Champions League during midweek.

AC Milan XI: Abbiati, Abate, Alex, Zapata, De Sciglio, Poli, De Jong, Muntari, Honda, Menez, El Shaarawy

Fiorentina XI: Neto; Tomovic, Savic, Rodriguez, Alonso; Kurtic, Valero, Aquilani; Fernandez; Cuadrado, Babacar

  62. Post update

    Olympiakos 1-0 Panathinaikos (17:30 GMT)

    Greek Superleague

It's one of the maddest derbies in Europe and it's going on right now - Olympiakos and Panathinaikos are locking horns in the battle of the eternal enemies as we speak.

It's currently 1-0 to the home side after a goal from defender Anastasios Avlonitis just before the hour mark. There's about 15 minutes left.

To get a taste of what one of these games means have a read of my colleague Neil Johnston's piece on the derby. Any article that starts off with "Petrol bombs, flares, firecrackers and fights. And that's just on the pitch" is worth a read.

  64. El Clasico recap

    Real Madrid 3-1 Barcelona

    Spanish La Liga

A youthful-looking Carlo Ancelotti, who is in the picture in today's opening entry, was an AC Milan midfielder in his playing days.

He is now manager of Real Madrid and will be a very, very, very happy man today. His team went behind against Barcelona in Saturday's much-anticipated El Clasico but recovered to emerge deserved winners.

Cristiano Ronaldo, James Rodriguez, Karim Benzema and company put Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez firmly in the shade to move Real a point behind La Liga leaders Barca.

Ancelotti's reward? The type of bear hug from Ronaldo that the Portuguese forward probably only reserves for girlfriend Irina Shayk.

Some of European football's greatest players have adorned the famous red and black striped shirt of AC Milan. Franco Baresi, Paolo Maldini, Ruud Gullit, Marco van Basten, Kaka, Cafu, Clarence Seedorf just to name a few.

Last season the Italian club finished eighth and has had to endure some tough times recently in comparison to an illustrious past, which has seen them garner 18 league titles and seven European Cups.

But are they on the way back? Today they'll be in action against Fiorentina aiming to move up to third and five points off Serie A leaders Juventus.

So welcome and, along with the latest from some of Europe's other key games, we'll see here tonight if the giant is reawakening.
