    Phil McNulty

    BBC Sport chief football writer

Sanchez the man again for Arsenal. A brilliant signing. As for Southampton, no panic at all despite 2nd successive loss.

Southampton were resilient, well-organised and might have fancied their chances of seeing it out had Alderweireld not been injured.

  5. Player reaction

    Chelsea 3-0 Tottenham

Tottenham striker Harry Kane, talking to BBC Sport: "We started well, we got at them and created a couple of chances - my header which hit the bar could have gone in on another day.

"The boys never gave up but we're disappointed. We're playing well, though, and tonight is something we have to learn from."

  6. Manager reaction

    Everton 1-1 Hull

Everton manager Roberto Martinez: "In the first half we did enough to win the game, but you don't win games with one-goal margins.

"I'm incredibly proud of the effort of the players. In the second half we were disrupted - Leighton Baines got a knock to the nose and got punished when Hull got the goal and we didn't have the energy to get the winning goal.

"With the number of games it's incredibly high - the effort and character was magnificent. They came here with a clear approach - a lot of energy and made it difficult to break them down. Hull were ruthless in taking their chance."

  7. Manager reaction

    Arsenal 1-0 Southampton

    Arsene Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger on BBC Sport: "It was a difficult game against a good side but we deserved to win, it was a victory of patience and intelligence and we kept our structure well.

"We were more fluent, sharper and quicker against Manchester United but we exposed ourselves. We learnt a lesson maybe, we were too impatient and today we were patient until we scored at the end.

"We were jaded physically but Alexis Sanchez can dig deep and has such desire and a will to win, he still finds that resource to get you something special.

"Olivier Giroud made a big difference. You could see the physical impact. He looked sharp.

"We had to be patient to create chances and their keeper played well. A positive of the night is thee clean sheets in a row. big respect for the attitude of the players and the solidarity they show."

    Steve Bruce

Hull manager Steve Bruce: "The second half we were much, much better. There wasn't much between the sides in the first half. After the difficult weekend in Manchester and a difficult month - if anybody was going to win it was us.

"Who knows with the point, we have hopefully stopped the rot. It was the first time we were in the relegation zone in 18 months. It's only our second season up. The Premier League is starting to take shape. We hope we can still finish midway through the division - we have a far better chance than we did last season."

    Sunderland 1-4 Manchester City

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet, speaking to BBC Sport: "We started the game very well but we gave too many options to City to attack. We didn't have the time to improve technically after taking the lead because they equalised so soon with a superb goal. When you have players like Aguero, they can do something from nothing."

    Sergio Aguero

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini, speaking to BBC Sport about two-goal Sergio Aguero: "Sergio is only 26 and he can improve every day. At the moment we are seeing very high performances from him. Not only is he scoring but he's playing well as well.

"The team is coming again in their performances and all the players are having more trust in what we are doing, but we must continue the same way."

    Pochettino

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to BBC Sport: "We're very disappointed because we created some chances to score and after we conceded in Chelsea's first action, the game changed. After two or three minutes we made a mistake and they scored again.

"But I want to congratulate my players because they were brave in the second half. It was difficult but this is football. You need to be clinical in front of goal against Chelsea. We had a lot of chances in the first 20 minutes but we were unlucky we didn't score and then they did.

"We're a very young team. Today you could see that we have a very young squad who need games. It's not because of that we lost. Chelsea were just very clinical in front of goal."

  23. Player reaction

    Everton 1-1 Hull

Hull goalscorer Sone Aluko: "It was a fair result - we dug in after giving away a sloppy goal. It felt very good to score my first league goal of the season. We were on bit of a slump so it was key to stop that. This result was massive - it was a very important result for us."

  24. Manager reaction

    Arsenal 1-0 Southampton

    Ronald Koeman

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman talking to BBC Sport: "We had a good positive reaction after last Sunday, a good first half, good ball possession, a good chance off Pelle. After an hour it was more difficult, Arsenal were pressing more but the difference was 11 v 10. We were unlucky to get a player injured after making all of our substitutions, you know they will create chances and in the last few minutes they made it 1-0. Forster had a very good game today.

"We knew it would be difficult but the performance today is better than Sunday. We know we don't have the numbers of players that Arsenal and Manchester United have."

    Sunderland 1-4 Manchester City

A masterpiece in understatement from Will Buckley there. Sergio Aguero was quite simply on a higher plain tonight. City's performance was so sparkling at times that it was easy to forget that Sunderland went ahead.

  27. Player reaction

    Sunderland 1-4 Manchester City

Sunderland midfielder Will Buckley, speaking to Sky Sports: "We played so well against Chelsea on Saturday and it probably showed in our legs. City's top players turned up and punished our mistakes.

"We worked hard to get the lead and to get pegged back within two minutes was a blow. When Sergio Aguero is on that form he is difficult to contain."

  28. Greedy Gooners?

    Arsenal 1-0 Southampton

    5 live Sport

"It's all very well for people to want Arsene Wenger to leave, but who will Arsenal get in who is better?

  30. Player reaction

    Arsenal 1-0 Southampton

    Fraser Forster

Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster on BBC Sport: "It is disappointing. We have matched them for 90 minutes but couldn't see the game out. It is hard enough 11 against 11 but with a man short it is so tough. We needed a bit of luck that we didn't get.

"We just need to keep believing and keep doing what we did in the first 10 games of the season."

  32. Manager reaction

    Chelsea 3-0 Tottenham

    Jose Mourinho

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, speaking to BBC Sport: "We played against a very good team and they showed that during some periods in the game. They started better than us and should have scored before us, but after our first goal our team became more stable and confident and we controlled the game. I'm really happy with the points, performance and spirit of the players. It's too heavy a result, though, for Tottenham."

On resting players: "When they need a rest, they are able to answer. December is a difficult month and it's almost impossible for players to play every game this month - certainly later in the month I have to change some players. Of course, Diego Costa is already rested and now Nemanja Matic is suspended for one game so he will be rested."

Too good. He's just too good. Sergio Aguero bamboozles the Sunderland defence once more with a clever late run across the front of goal, he meets a through ball from sub James Milner and caresses in a cushioned half volley at the near post.

Simple, but so effective. If his first goal was a 300-yard drive, that was a chip out of the bunker to within six inches.

Olivier Giroud has made all the difference! His first-time lay-off is brilliant, wrong-footing the Saints defence and teeing up Danny Welbeck for a snap shot from 15 yards. Welbeck middles it, plenty of power, but one enormous hand from Fraser Forster is enough to push it wide.
