Up next for Real Madrid are three successive home games - Cornella and Celta Vigo in the league and cup and Ludogorets in the Champions League. You have to fancy them to extend this winning run.

That's it for our coverage of today's European football action. We'll be back with more tomorrow, so join us again then. Cheers!

Mitch Mansfield: Remember when Real won just 1 of 1st 5 games this season (incl. Super Cup) & letting Alonso/ADM go seemed absurd? Me neither!

  3. Post update

    Malaga 1-2 Real Madrid

    Real AMdrid

So then, is this Real Madrid team better than Jose Mourinho's from three years ago?

  4. Post update

    Malaga 1-2 Real Madrid

    Malaga

Fair play to Malaga, they gave a pretty good fight but once again Real Madrid's quality told. They move five points clear at the top of La Liga, but second-place Barcelona are in action tomorrow.

  5. FULL-TIME

    Malaga 1-2 Real Madrid

No they can't because that's it! And Carlo Ancelotti goes into the history books as Real Madrid secure their 16th successive win. A club record.

  6. GOAL

Malaga 1-2 Real Madrid - Roque Santa Cruz

Well, well, well. This could be an interesting final few minutes as Roque Santa Cruz gets the goal his performance deserves as he nods in from a cross. Can they snatch a draw?

  7. SUBSTITUTION

    Malaga 0-2 Real Madrid

Javier Hernandez is given a few minutes on the pitch as he replaces goalscorer Gareth Bale. Dani Carvajal is also replaced by Raphael Varane.

  8. GREAT SAVE!

    Malaga 0-2 Real Madrid

After several nervy moments, Iker Casillas pulls off a great save to deny Juanpi's well-struck free-kick. Apparently he has not conceded in 600 minutes of football for club and country. Fair play.

  9. RED CARD

Malaga 0-2 Real Madrid - Isco

A blemish on what looks like a victory for Real Madrid as Isco is shown a second yellow for a foul on Samu Castillejo. Isco, a former Malaga player, goes off to huge applause.

  10. GOAL

Malaga 0-2 Real Madrid - Gareth Bale

    Gareth Bale

Game, set and match and Real Madrid have a club record 16th consecutive win in the bag. It's a great goal too, as a long ball is played from the back to Cristiano Ronaldo, who knocks it into the path of Gareth Bale and he strides towards goal before finishing emphatically.

  11. CLOSE!

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

Another nervy moment for Iker Casillas as he again fails to hold a shot and the ball is cleared just as Roque Santa Cruz is about to pounce.

  12. SUBSTITUTION

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

Last throw of the dice for Malaga as Javi Garcia makes his final change, taking off Recio and bringing on Juanpi for the final few minutes.

  13. GREAT SAVE!

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

    Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is presented with an absolute gift as a cross drifts through the legs of two Malaga defenders and Ronaldo, effectively stood on the penalty spot, seems sure to score but once again Carlos Kameni somehow keeps out the forward's shot from point-blank range. Kameni has put in a great shift tonight.

  14. SUBSTITUTION

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

Carlo Ancelotti makes a change as Karim Benzema goes off and Asier Illarramendi comes on. The defensive midfielder brought perhaps on to shore things up a little just as Malaga start to look a bit more dangerous.

  15. CLOSE!

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

Better from Malaga as Roque Santa Cruz heads just over from Sergi Darder's corner. The home side are finally becoming a bit more adventurous after letting Real Madrid have the ball for the first 20 minutes or so of this half.

  16. Post update

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

    Sergio Sanchez

A enforced change for Malaga as Sergio Sanchez tweaks something and he signals to the bench that he can't continue. Marcos Angeleri comes on. Ricardo Horta also comes on for Duda.

  17. Post update

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

If you are wondering why I have not mentioned a Malaga attack in this half, it is because there has not been one to mention as yet. They've got 10 outfield players camped inside their own half as Real Madrid search for an opener. This half doesn't have quite the same zip as the first. A goal would change that.

World Cup-winner or Ronaldo for Ballon d'Or?

    Cristiano Ronaldo

Paul Moore: If Ronaldo was the darling of Barcelona, Platini would never had made that comment.

Dool: Then we should have Ballon D'or every four years! Should be awarded to a player that was consistent throughout season!

  19. Post update

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

If Malaga are to get back into this, I would not be surprised if Iker Casillas plays a big part in it. Recio lets fly with a bouncing effort from distance and Casillas again spills the ball but the Real Madrid keeper recovers, just.

  20. CLOSE!

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

    Isco

Again Real Madrid come forward and only some sterling goalkeeping by Carlos Kameni keeps them at bay. Karim Benzema feeds the ball out to Cristiano Ronaldo who in turn plays in Isco, who stabs the ball towards goal but Kameni does the business once again to deflect the ball away.

  21. Post update

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo then goes for the spectacular with an acrobatic overhead kick. It would have been a beaut if it was on target, but it wasn't.

    All Real Madrid though.

  22. Post update

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

Real Madrid win a free-kick right on the edge of the area as Weligton clips Gareth Bale's ankle. James Rodriguez takes the set-piece, lifting the ball towards the near post where Gareth Bale gets away from his marker but plants a header just wide.

  23. Post update

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

Real Madrid are immediately on the hunt for a second goal as James Rodriguez curls a free-kick into the area which Sergio Ramos then heads towards Gareth Bale. The Wales international can't get the direction he would have hoped on his header, but he was offside anyway.

  24. KICK-OFF

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

Real Madrid are 45 minutes away from a club-record 16th consecutive win. Can they do it?

    Second half under way.

World Cup-winner or Ronaldo for Ballon d'Or?

Here is a few more of your thoughts after Uefa president Michel Platini suggested the Ballon d'Or should be awarded to one of Germany's World Cup-winning players.

Rohan Bardeskar: Patini gone nuts!! World Cup is played every four years not every year and for this year it's surely Ronaldo.

Dip Azad: CR7 deserves it. There's no close candidate without Ronaldo.

Sultan Salahuddin: Ballon D'or should be given to an individual for his performances over 12 months not just a couple of games at the World Cup.

  26. Post update

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

    Malaga

Real Madrid had more shots and more possession in the first half but Malaga gave the away side's defence a couple of nervy moments, as did Iker Casillas. A second goal for Real and I can't see Malaga getting anything from this, but at the moment I would not bet against them scoring in the second half.

  27. Post update

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

    Cristiano Ronaldo

Another game, another assist by Cristiano Ronaldo. A great first-half performance from the forward, all that is missing is a goal.

  28. Text us on 81111

Ross, via text: "Anyone think Ronaldo might be a little jealous of Messi at the moment as he has the record of most La Liga & Champions League goals at the moment?

  29. HALF-TIME

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

    Carlo Ancelotti

An entertaining half comes to an end and Real Madrid go into the break with their noses in front. The away side look typically dangerous when they attack but Malaga are very much still in this.

  30. YELLOW CARD

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

Toni Kroos is shown the yellow card after colliding with Duda when challenging for the ball. Kroos is fuming.

  31. HITS THE WOODWORK

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

He's not going to go for it, surely? You know what, he is! Malaga win a free-kick some 35 yards from goal and Duda fancies a crack at goal and, credit to the midfielder, it is superbly hit as the ball whistles over the wall and smashes against the crossbar with Iker Casillas beaten.

    Entertaining stuff this!

  32. GREAT SAVE!

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

    Gareth Bale

Big, brave save by Carlos Kameni to deny Gareth Bale what looked a certain goal. Cristiano Ronaldo slips a smart ball through for Bale, who beats the offside trap and runs through on goal but Kameni is quick off his line to close the gap and block Bale's shot.

  33. Post update

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

James Rodriguez plays a short corner to Marcelo, whose searching ball fails to find a Real Madrid shirt inside the area and it instead drifts out wide to Sergio Ramos, who is unable to get it back into the box before Malaga eventually clear.

  34. Join the debate at #bbceurofooty

Thomas Norton: Casillias has got to go. He's not half the player he used to be. De Gea, Neuer, Courtois are so far ahead of anyone else.

  35. Post update

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

...Cristiano Ronaldo takes the free-kick, some 35 yards from goal, and it is on target and well hit. Carlos Kameni spills his save but the loose ball is cleared before Karim Benzema can get to it.

  36. YELLOW CARD

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

    Cristiano Ronaldo

First booking of the game as Sergi Darder is shown the yellow card for trapping the legs of Cristiano Ronaldo. Free-kick given in Ronaldo territory...

  37. Join the debate at #bbceurofooty

World Cup-winner or Ronaldo for Ballon d'Or?

Andrew Barnes: It should go to the greatest player over 12 months, which has been Ronaldo by a mile.

  38. Post update

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

Real Madrid have a more credible appeal for a penalty turned down as Sergio Ramos has his shirt pulled inside the area as he tries to get to James Rodriguez's free-kick. Lucky escape for Malaga.

  39. Post update

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

Real Madrid have the goal, but this game is quite open. Malaga seems to be having some joy getting away down the left but their potential undoing is that they are consistently exposed to Real's electric counter. There's more goals in this game.

  40. CLOSE!

    Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid

Iker Casillas you lucky, lucky man! Sergi Darder has a pop at goal with a well-struck volley from outside the area, it is going wide but Casillas gets behind it anyway, only to fumble his save and the ball drops between his legs and hits the post. Blushes spared, but only just.

  41. GOAL

Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid - Karim Benzema

    Karim Benzema

Win number 16 moves that bit closer as Real take the lead, and when Cristiano Ronaldo gets in his groove, there is no stopping him. He has the Malaga defence backpeddling with a few stepovers, before squaring the ball to the middle of the area for Karim Benzema, who neatly flicks home.

  42. GREAT SAVE!

    Malaga 0-0 Real Madrid

Roque Santa Cruz, remember him? He goes so close to giving Malaga the lead with their first real foray into the Real Madrid half, directing a header at goal only for Iker Casillas to tip over.

  43. Join the debate at #bbceurofooty

World Cup-winner or Ronaldo for Ballon d'Or?

Trevor Kafoteka: Cristiano has been the best player over the last two seasons over Messi and everybody else, Michel Platini is just absurd.

  44. CLOSE!

    Malaga 0-0 Real Madrid

Fantastic save by Carlos Kameni! Gareth Bale brings a high ball into the area under control and feeds a pass to Cristiano Ronaldo barely six yards out, he rifles a shot at goal but Kameni reacts superbly to parry away. The pressure is building.

  45. Post update

    Malaga 0-0 Real Madrid

Pepe sees a shot blocked from a corner as Cristiano Ronaldo appeals for a penalty after falling inside the area. The forward claims his shirt was pulled, but he'd have been very fortunate to have convinced the referee to award a spot kick.

  46. Post update

    Malaga 0-0 Real Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo has his legs swiped as he tries to cut inside from the left, free-kick to Real Madrid. Gareth Bale takes it, lifting the ball into the area where Sergio Ramos rises to power a header goalwards, but it is straight at the keeper. There was about five players offside, though, when the free-kick was taken.

World Cup-winner or Ronaldo for Ballon d'Or?

Nathan Butterworth: it's an individual award not a team award they played well as a team with no real standouts.

Abdullah Mulla: I agree to an extent with Platini. Muller should get 3rd place but Ronaldo has to win it!

  48. Post update

    Malaga 0-0 Real Madrid

Gareth Bale warms the hands of Malaga keeper Carlos Kameni with a curled effort from outside the area. The hosts are unbeaten at home this season, but this will surely be a real test for them.

  49. KICK-OFF

    Malaga 0-0 Real Madrid

The referee takes a look at his watch, blows his whistle and Malaga get us up and running.

Just a few minutes until kick off as Real Madrid chase a 16th win in a row. Still a way to go though to match Benfica's achievement from the 1970s...

  51. Post update

Well, not completely swimmingly. David Moyes did have his Alan Partridge 'Dan!' moment during his first game in charge as he shouted "Stefano, Stefano, Stefano" from the touchline.

Real Sociedad don't have any players called Stefano...

  52. Moyes's home comforts

    David Moyes

Malaga versus Real Madrid is the pick of a light La Liga schedule today, but there was Spanish top flight action last night as Real Sociedad beat Elche 3-0 in David Moyes's first home game in charge. Ex-Arsenal striker Carlos Vela got all three goals for the hosts.

Four points, three goals scored and none conceded. Fair to say it is all going pretty swimmingly for Moyes after two games.

  56. Ronaldo "deserves Ballon d'Or"

Malaga v Real Madrid (19:00 GMT)

    Christiano Ronaldo

What was not standard management speak was Real Madrid's response on Friday to comments by Uefa president Michel Platini, who suggested their forward Cristiano Ronaldo should not win the Ballon d'Or.

Platini said the annual prize, which is given to the world's best player, should be awarded to one of Germany's World Cup-winning squad.

"We are surprised at the repeated declarations regarding his personal preferences over the choice of the winner of the Ballon d'Or, particularly given that he is the head of European football's principal body, where our understanding is that the strictest impartiality should prevail," said a Madrid statement.

"We believe that Cristiano Ronaldo has without doubt had his best ever professional year individually. It confirms his great moment of form and ensures that, more than ever, he is deserving of the Ballon d'Or."

  57. Post update

Malaga v Real Madrid (19:00 GMT)

    Carlo Ancelotti

Despite being on the verge of making history, Carlo Ancelotti opted for standard football management speak in his pre-match news conference.

"We don't talk about it because we have to prepare each game focusing on the opponent," he said. "We are getting ready for this match in exactly the same way as always because we know it's going to be a tough one and we will have to play well.

"The most important thing is to continue with the run and protect our lead at the top of the table."

  58. LINE-UPS

  60. Crisis? What crisis?

Malaga v Real Madrid (19:00 GMT)

    Real Madrid

"Real Madrid in crisis", "Pressure mounts on Carlo Ancelotti". It is incredible to think that just two months ago, those were the kind of headlines being written about Real and Ancelotti.

The Spanish giants had lost two of their opening three league games to sit six points behind La Liga's early pacesetters Barcelona.

Now, it is a very different story, with Real going into today's game at Malaga having not lost a game in all competitions since 16 September.

    Impressive.

  61. Record breakers

It was a record first set by Miguel Munoz's side back in 1961...

    Real Madrid

...then equalled under Jose Mourinho in 2011...

    Real Madrid

...but tonight, a new record could be set.

Carlo Ancelotti mirrored the achievement of messrs Munoz and Mourinho by guiding Real Madrid to a club record equalling 15th successive win against Basel in midweek.

Could he oversee win number 16 tonight and take his place in the history books?
