  1. Post update

Well I didn't think Kevin Mirallas would be overshadowing a half-time chat from Sylvester Stallone, but that's what happened.

That's all from us, so I'll leave you with the report on tonight's game and watch out for reaction later. Thanks for your company.

  2. Manage reaction

    Everton 0-0 West Brom

West Brom boss Tony Pulis, speaking to BBC Sport: "We have worked hard on the training ground, we have a system in place that will makes us really solid and we have to get those points. It is a dogfight down there but we have to get better on the ball. The players are good enough to retain possession and get us up the pitch."

On potential signings: "There are four or five offers that are in and we are just trying to find out what the deals are and whether people will come to us and whether they won't. We have to get us some players in. He [Callum McManaman] is one of quite a few targets, if we can't do a deal with Wigan we have other options."

  3. Manager reaction

    Everton 0-0 West Brom

Everton boss Roberto Martinez, speaking to BBC Sport: "[on Kevin Mirallas' penalty miss and his half-time substitution] They are not related. Kevin Mirallas wanted to take the penalty, Leighton Baines is the number one penalty taker and he felt confident maybe because of the shoot out against West Ham, scored there and felt he was in a good moment to make it today. It is a talking point because he missed it. He has the quality and the character to take it.

"The substitution at half time was because he was not 100%, he looked like he was carrying an injury and he did not look 100% to carry on. I think he felt at half time his hamstring was getting a little extra sensitive.

"The penalty is a great opportunity to score the opening goal, in the second half it became a bit forceful and a bit disappointing but it is something we have to look at for the next game."

  4. Manager reaction

    Everton 0-0 West Brom

West Brom boss Tony Pulis, speaking to Sky Sports: "Leighton Baines is usually the taker I would say, was it a surprise? No not really because Roberto and the players had decided he would be the one taking it.

"The players worked so hard off the ball but on the change over we have to improve that. You can't keep giving the ball back because teams will punish you. We have to retain the ball and get our passes off.

"They worked really hard. When you get results that is the most important thing. The spirit and the commitment of the players, the way they got back into shape was very good, but we have to get passes off so we can cause the opposition problems."

    West Brom boss Tony Pulis
  5. Manager reaction

    Everton 0-0 West Brom

Everton boss Roberto Martinez, speaking to Sky Sports: "Our penalty taker is Leighton Baines but in the same way we had a penalty-shoot out against West Ham in the FA Cup, Kevin Mirallas took the penalty really well and wanted to take it. He wanted to take the penalty and Leighton was happy to let him do that.

"Nothing else apart from it was an unfortunate kick, missing the target. Both players have enough quality, personality and character to convert at that moment.

"At that moment Kevin felt really confident and wanted to take it. For me, Leighton is the number one penalty taker. At that point I would have been happy for the two players to discuss it. There are a few penalty takers in the squad and they could have stepped up in that moment, the big disappointment is we missed the penalty, not who took it.

"He [Mirallas] was not feeling 100%, he felt his hamstring straight after the penalty. That was the reason for the substitution."

    Everton manager Roberto Martinez
  6. Post update

    Everton 0-0 West Brom

Steven Naismith, speaking about Kevin Mirallas' half-time substitution: "The manager came in and had his normal team-talk at half-time. I think Kev has come off with an injury. Think that is what it was more than anything else, he never came in the changing room so I am sure it was an injury.

"I think we have shown in the two games against West Ham in the FA Cup and against Manchester City the fight we have got in this squad.

"We know we are a good team, we showed it last season and we have done it in spells this season. The disappointment this season is that the consistency has not been there."

  7. Player reaction

    Everton 0-0 West Brom

Everton's Steven Naismith, speaking to Sky Sports about the penalty: "We have won the pen and the ball has fell to Kev, Kev is so confident, he showed in the FA Cup game against West Ham that he very confident then and he slotted his penalty away. He is in form and he is playing well so he wanted to step up and take it. Unfortunately he has missed but we should have had enough in the 90 minutes (to win) rather than relying on the penalty.

Asked if Baines is the penalty taker, Naismith adds: "No, Baines had a very good record and then he missed at Man Utd earlier this season, which was disappointing for him. We have got some fantastic players and Kev's dead-ball play is fantastic. Like I said, he was obviously confident from how he played West Ham, and how he started this game. So he fancied it and stepped up to take it, he has got to show he is man enough to take it, and he did so."

    Everton's Steven Naismith
  8. Post update

    Everton 0-0 West Brom

Everton's Steven Naismith tells Sky Sports that Kevin Mirallas was injured and that there were no crossed words in the dressing room at half time.

Do we believe you, Steven? We'll have all the reaction in full coming up shortly.

  9. Post update

    Everton 0-0 West Brom

Everton finished with a total of 17 shots on goal but only four of them were on target. West Brom did not manage to trouble Joel Robles in the Everton goal once, but you get the feeling Tony Pulis will be happy with a point that continues his unbeaten start as Baggies boss - a win and a draw in the Premier League.

  10. How the table looks

    Everton

A positional change for both Everton and West Brom after this draw. Everton are up to 12th with 23 points while West Brom also move up one place to 14th.

    Everton

Everton continue to boss the possession stats but what they are doing with the ball in the final third is letting them down, highlighted when Arouna Kone controls a loose ball just inside the area, but takes too long and West Brom snuff out the chance.

  26. Post update

    Everton 0-0 West Brom

This is tense now. Either side could win it and West Brom have half a chance through Chris Brunt, but his shot is blocked. Everton then amble back up the pitch on an attack of their own. It's not fast enough for the home fans, who vent their frustration.

  27. SUBSTITUTION

    Everton 0-0 West Brom

Tony Pulis opts to go with his original decision and Brown Ideye is on for Victor Anichebe, who had wandered all the way to the opposite side of the pitch and has to trudge back over again.

Everton also make a change and it is Muhamed Besic off for Arouna Kone, a decision greeted by boos from the home fans.

West Brom manager Tony Pulis and Everton's Roberto Martinez
  28. YELLOW CARD

    Everton 0-0 West Brom

Muhamed Besic fouls Stephane Sessegnon and is booked for doing so. Tony Pulis wants to bring on Brown Ideye but Pulis pauses with Sessegnon down injured. He was going to take off Victor Anichebe, but waits to see the extent of Sessegnon's injury.

  29. Post update

    Everton 0-0 West Brom

John Stones embarks on a barnstorming run from defence, through midfield and up to the edge of the area. He has grabbed this game by the scruff of the neck and sets up a great chance for Everton to snatch the lead as he finds Ross Barkley, who then passes to Steven Naismith to tee up Romelu Lukaku, but the striker shoots wide.

  30. Post update

    Everton 0-0 West Brom

Everton are still in control, they need to capitalise on this spell of pressure and Muhammed Besic goes close with a shot from distance that bounces just wide. It took a slight deflection and it is another corner, but again Everton can't make it count.

West Brom have scored a league-high 55% of their goals from set pieces this season. An error from Everton, and maybe West Brom could nick this?

    Everton 0-0 West Brom

How will Everton fare without one of their better attacking players in this half? The first 45 minutes was hardly brimming with chances, and with even less creativity in the side it would be a surprise if there are in this half. If, and I stress if, Kevin Mirallas was taken off for going against team orders and taking that penalty, should captain Phil Jagielka have taken more command of the situation?

Gareth Barry slides a pass between the West Brom defence for Seamus Coleman on the left side of the area, he clips the ball into the area but West Brom put it behind for a corner, which comes to nothing. West Brom have a disciplined bank of four back defending when Everton try to attack, and it is giving the hosts very little space.

"In my experience Roberto Martinez and Tony Pulis are probably the two Premier League managers least likely to make excuses or blame others.

"Few got more praise last season than these two. Martinez flirted with Champions League qualification in his first year at Goodison Park. Pulis was named the Premier League manager of the year for his Crystal Palace heroics. However, by the start of this campaign Pulis was out of a job and Martinez was suffering second-season syndrome.

"There is one point between Everton and West Brom in the table. They are both perilously close to the relegation zone. That's what makes this game so important. No excuses."

Everton boss Roberto Martinez, speaking to Sky Sports: "The last three performances have been really strong. Different types of games and different types of opponents but we found a way to adapt. We are missing McGeady through suspension but otherwise there is a continuity with the team.

"We need a win, we have not had one for a while and that is not what we want. We go into every game with a real desire to win a football match but West Brom have had a good start under Tony Pulis and will come here believing they can get a result."

"We have variations [in the squad]. We have enough players who can play in different positions to give us good choices. Having players who know how to adapt is very important in the modern game.

"Saido is a good player and we are looking forward to keeping him and him scoring some more goals."

Big coats, hats and gloves are the order of the day for the fans stepping out of the concourses and into the stands at Goodison Park at the moment, very chilly indeed out there. No rain or snow, though. Not yet anyway.

Everton fans haven't seen their side lose at home on a Monday in the Premier League since 2001. With a record like that, it is worth braving the cold.

    Jeff Astle

Tonight promises to be emotional for West Brom fans as the 19 January marks the 13th anniversary of the death of Baggies legend Jeff Astle.

It is fitting that the anniversary also falls on the day West Brom play Everton, because Astle scored for the Baggies against the Toffees to win the 1968 FA Cup - West Brom's last major trophy.

Lawro has gone with 2-0 Everton for this one. How did he get on with his predictions for Saturday's and Sunday's games? Take a look for yourself.

West Brom head coach Tony Pulis make two changes from the side which beat Hull 1-0. Craig Gardner and former Everton striker Victor Anichebe are preferred to Brown Ideye and Stephane Sessegnon who drop to the bench. Saido Berahino starts.

Everton XI: Robles, Coleman, Stones, Jagielka, Baines, Mirallas, Besic, Barry, Naismith, Barkley, Lukaku.

    Table

Enough silliness for now, because there is a game to be played tonight and for Everton and West Brom fans, it is a big one.

Both sides are hovering uncomfortably close to the relegation zone, with the Baggies 15th, two points above 18th, while the Toffees are one point and two places better off.

Everton cannot buy a win at the moment, with their last three point haul back on 15 December when they beat QPR 3-1. Four defeats and one draw have followed since then.

It has been a poor season as well for West Brom but the appointment of relegation escape expert Tony Pulis as boss will help ease fans' fears. He oversaw victory in his first Premier League game in charge - a 1-0 win against Hull City.

It may not be a box office fixture in itself, but Everton versus West Brom could well become a part of a Hollywood blockbuster.

Boxer and lifelong Everton fan Tony Bellew is to star in new Rocky film 'Creed' and has arranged for crowd scenes from tonight's game to be filmed for it, as well as Sylvester Stallone - who claims to be an Everton fan - to deliver a half-time message.

Wonder if he will also suggest the Toffees should sign West Ham keeper Adrian....

Without a win in their last seven games, Everton might do well to heed the words of Rocky Balboa.

In total, the Toffees have mustered just a solitary win since the end of November and Roberto Martinez will know something needs to be done, and done soon, to prevent the Toffees being dragged into a relegation fight.

A Balboa-style speech may not be high on Martinez's list of motivational techniques but with Sylvester Stallone set to deliver a half-time message at Goodison Park this evening then you never know, it may do just the trick...

  125. Motivation - Stallone style

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows...

    Everton

"...it's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life...

    Roberto Martinez

"But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward...

    Everton

"...because that's how winning is done!"
