Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund's willingness to pass their way through will be needed no doubt against an Italian defence with something to hold onto in three weeks and Juve know how to keep things tight.

They have the best defence in Serie A by some way remember.

BBC

Missed penalty by Barca

Manchester City 1-2 Barcelona

Momentum changer? Joe Hart saves a last-gasp Lionel Messi penalty, who puts the rebound wide with his head. The first leg in that ties finishes 2-1 to Barca.

FULL-TIME

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

We have a tie on our hands here. Beautifully poised.

You can bank on a yellow whirlwind of support and attacks when they meet again in Germany on 18 March.

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

What have you got Dortmund? Klopp's side refuse the temptation to go long and work Marcel Schmelzer into a crossing area but he cannot stretch to hook his left peg around the ball and it's sliced for a goal kick.

A glorious image of the colourful Klopp follows as he slaps his own cheeks. It was a bad cross but a slap to one's own face is a bit extreme.

INJURY TIME

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

Accounting for a penalty shootout defeat to Napoli after a 2-2 draw, Juventus are about to go 22 matches without a loss in 90 minutes.

They look happy to soak up now and we have three added minutes.

SUBSTITUTION

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

Standing ovation for Carlos Tevez as he trots off with the pace of a tortoise as the clock ticks down. On comes Kingsley Coman for a Champions League debut.

SUBSTITUTION

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

A change for Juve as the clock ticks down, with Arturo Vidal making way for Simone Padoin.

CLOSE!

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

Roberto Pereyra...one one one...to seal this first leg...drags it wide.

What an opening. It is moments like this that can stand out even over 180 minutes. The substitute is on the end of Alvaro Morata's pass. He races though on the inside-left channel and shoots across goal left footed but it's got too much angle on it and rolls wide.

CLOSE!

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

Jakub Blaszczykowski arrows a ball from right to left diagonally and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is lurking to race onto it but Leonardo Bonucci studies its flight to acrobatically clear. It was crucial but stylish. A double whammy achieved only by Italian defenders. Pass the gel, a hair fell out of place.

Football League update

It's a humdinger at Ipswich! Mick McCarthy's side restored their two-goal lead against Birmingham, thanks to Freddie Sears's second goal, but David Davis has just pulled one back again for Birmingham, who now trail 2-1.

Huddersfield are cruising against Reading - they are 3-0 up thanks to second-half goals from Nahki Wells and Ishamel Miller. Millwall have been unable to take advantage of bad nights for their relegation rivals - they are losing 2-0 to Sheffield Wednesday, Lewis McGugan and Atdhe Nuhiu on target for the visitors.

League One leaders Bristol City are heading for victory - Aaron Wilbraham has put them 3-1 up at Doncaster.

Your Dortmund lesson

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

If you love a walk in the park, Dortmund is the place for you.

Dortmund park
Google

The city is located in the region of Westphalia and is known as a "green metropolis" as nearly half the municipal territory consists of waterways, woodland, agriculture and green spaces.

Roughly 575,000 people live there, making it Germany's eighth most-populated city and it has been twinned with Leeds since 1969.

CLOSE!

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

What Chiellini can do at one end, Mats Hummels can only match at the other and he powers a header wide from 15 yards. Carlos Tevez, so good throughout this one, drew gasps of frustration from the home fans in giving the ball away in a deep area.

It's got to go Carlos, it's got to go.

CLOSE!

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

In comes the corner and Giorgio Chiellini leaps like a salmon to meet it. Over the bar. A good effort.

Jurgen Klopp
Getty Images

Jurgen Klopp must feel his sides' effort has dipped because he is shouting on the touchline with a glare in his eye. This does not look like intricate tactical advice. It's a full-blooded request for more.

GREAT SAVE!

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

A Juventus third would be harsh on Dortmund but there is still intent and a ferocity to their attacks, especially when Tevez is in possession.

He weaves a bit of space to fire a whizzer at goal and Roman Weidenfeller has to put fists on it. Great save...corner.

German hope?

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

Bayern Munich celebrate at Juventus

Some possible hope for those of a German persuasion...

Juventus have not lost at home in 90 minutes since April 2013. On that night they were beaten 2-0 by a German club - Bayern Munich. Still plenty of time...

SUBSTITUTION

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

Ciro Immobile has been largely peripheral since an early strike from range so when he sees the white of goal from distance again he has a dig. It swings from left to right off his right boot and is never troubling the goal.

Final substitution coming up for Dortmund and I think he is making way for a player whose name will never appear on a Scrabble board...Jakub Blaszczykowski.

GOAL

Manchester City 1-2 Barcelona - Sergio Aguero

Manchester City have a lifeline.

Sergio Aguero, travelling in fast-forward while all around him are trudging through quicksand, latches onto a David Silva backheel ahead of a clutch of Barcelona defenders.

He bursts through and applies a lovely clipped finish over Marc Andre ter Stegen. A terrific little goal and, potentially, a very valuable one.

CLOSE!

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund fans are breathing a mighty sigh of relief as Carlos Tevez looks on bewildered at how his shot has just trickled an inch wide.

He forges space in a way only he can - brute force - to shoot as he is falling from 18 yards. Low, it dribbles wide, practically shaving the post.

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is probing more and more. His pass releases Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but his cross only yields a corner and again it is an easy clearance.

Set pieces are not getting the job done for the BVB here. Would this result do them though? Their home support is raucous remember.

Football League update

Watford are firmly in control against Rotherham - the Championship's fifth-placed side now lead 3-0 thanks to second-half goals from Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo.

Wolves are also 3-0 up - Bakary Sako has got two of their goals against Fulham. Ipswich now lead Birmingham 2-1 - Freddie Sears scored for the Tractor Boys but David Davis has just pegged them back again.

In League One, Curtis Main has pulled one back for Doncaster against leaders Bristol City - it's now 2-1 in that game.

As we tick just past the hour, the action zones highlight Dortmund spending more time in their opponents' final third.

They knock the ball around diligently in there again and just as Henrikh Mkhitaryan takes a defender out of the game with a neat run, he is felled.

In-swinging delivery from the free-kick is headed for a corner...pressure...Pogba hammers it clear.

Your Turin lesson

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

One of Great Britain's great exports, some my argue the greatest, owes much to Turin, the scene of tonight's meeting.

"You're only supposed to blow the....doors off."

The Italian Job
Getty Images

The Michael Caine led classic - The Italian Job - focused on a heist in the northern-Italy city.

What else is there to know? Turin was Italy's first capital, in 1861, just under one million people live there and Fiat base their headquarters in the city.

CLOSE!

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

Head pinball in the box, Carlos Tevez with a volley, high and wide.

A right-wing cross is flicked by one Dortmund defender, headed clear by the next and as Tevez swings at it they draw a sight of relief.

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund pop the ball around in the final third. Juventus are organised. Henrikh Mkhitaryan can pick a ball out between centre-back and full-back but his willing runner Oliver Kirch is blocked off. Nothing coming from the referee.

Get your boots on son...

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

One sub left for Dortmund. Do you fancy seeing a bit of this fella?

Jurgen Klopp and Adrian Ramos
Getty Images

If Jurgen Klopp turns to Adrian Ramos on the bench, Dortmund fans may as well start celebrating in the stands.

The 29-year-old Colombia striker has managed three goals in just 62 minutes of Champions League football as a replacement in the competition this season.

The definition of 'super-sub'?

CLOSE!

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

The break-away squad - Tevez, Morata and Pogba - are at it again. Dortmund attack but a loss of the ball sees Morata race down the right. His cross is for Tevez and wayward but even though Pogba arrives galloping like Red Rum he cannot break through.

He bursts through one challenge but is squeezed out in the area by yellow shirts.

CLOSE!

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

In Oscars week, Roman Weidenfeller deserves a 'Razzie' for this performance.

A Razzie
BBC

The Dortmund goalkeeper is anything but convincing tonight. He gets caught flat footed under a corner whipped in and Claudio Marchisio is inches away from nodding a third. He cannot quite get a glance on the ball to turn home.

CLOSE!

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

Mats Hummels is constantly linked with moves involving lots of money.

He shows why with an acrobatic clearance from an Arturo Vidal cross. Corner follows...swung in...Morata must score...over.

He is relieved to see the offside flag up because that was a sitter.

Race for the golden boot

Top scorers

So who is leading the way in terms of goals scored in the Champions League? Lionel Messi? Cristiano Ronaldo? Zlatan Ibrahimovic?

No, it is Shaktar Donetsk's Luiz Adriano with nine goals - although he was unable to add to that tally in last week's last 16 goalless draw with Bayern Munich.

Manchester City's Sergio Aguero is the leading Premier League striker in the goal charts with five.

Luis Suarez is having a right go to try to forge his way into this lovely 'donut chart'. See if he can get a third on the night and fifth of the tournament by

Oliver Kirch...first touch since coming on...volley...over.

His eyes lit up and Jurgen Klopp claps his hands in frustration on the touchline. A half chance if that.

Football League update

Normal service in the Championship. Leaders Derby lead Charlton 2-0 at half-time, while second-placed Middlesbrough have stepped up the chase with a goal against Bolton - Albert Adomah putting them 1-0 up. Fourth-placed Ipswich also lead, courtesy of Tyrone Mings' header against Birmingham.

Bottom two clubs Blackpool and Wigan are both losing, while Millwall, who occupy the other relegation place, are holding Sheffield Wednesday 0-0.

In League One, leaders Bristol City are 2-0 up on Doncaster, Greg Cunningham adding the second from the spot. Swindon look set to end Bradford's unbeaten run - they lead 2-0 thanks to Massimo Luongo's brace.

It's not all going to form though - in League Two, Josh Windass has put Accrington 1-0 up against leaders Burton.

YELLOW CARD

That is a hack down by Arturo Vidal. Just as Marco Reus opens his legs to break beyond midfield it's a scissor tackle from behind. Ruthless. Booked.

Roman Weidenfeller's 'howler' is perhaps not quite that bad, but the shot across his body by Alvaro Morata had little pace on it and the fumble left Tevez with a tap in. Shots across the body always pose problems I guess, but could he have held it?

Fond yellow memories

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

Ah yes, who could forget that 1997 Champions League final?

Juventus, swaggering with Zidane, Deschamps, Christian Vieri leading the line against a Dortmund side which had never won the European Cup and had last tasted success outside of Germany with a Uefa Cup win over 30 years prior.

But with the likes of Paul Lambert and Paulo Sousa in midfield, the BVB were two Karl-Heinz Riedle (pictured) goals up by half time and though Alessandro Del Piero pulled one back, Lars Ricken sealed the deal with 19 minutes left.

Dortmund have not won the Champions League since. Bonus points if you can name the Juve player clutching the post here.
