  1. Tonight's line-up

    Match of the Day

For once there is no debate about the Match of the Day schedule this evening. We are off now, but enjoy the following shows this evening:

Match of the Day, 22:45-23:15 BBC One & 23:15-23:45, BBC One Scotland

MOTD: FA Cup Highlights, 23:15-23:55, BBC One & 23:45-00:25, BBC One Scotland

    Good night!

  2. Manager reaction

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

West Brom manager Tony Pulis speaking to Dan Walker: "We switched off from a throw in deep in their half of the pitch. There's two or three things that happened in that movement, which haven't happened since I've been here.

"Up to that point, I thought we were well in control of the game. We've had our chances and not taken them."

  3. 'Disgraceful'

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

    Tony Pulis

Tony Pulis on the pitch invasion: "It's disgraceful. We don't want to see those scenes. They've beaten us and for that to happen, that's just mindless idiots. If you're Villa, you need to look at the stewards as they came over to our fans and there was nobody there."

  4. Manager reaction

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

More from West Brom manager Tony Pulis: "I don't know why Jack Grealish was sent off, but I cannot understand why Claudio Yacob was sent off. That's a block tackle, something you're taught at five years of age. The referee lets it run on for a few seconds and the disappointing thing is it's two yellows and we can't appeal it. That's going to cost us again when he misses the game against Stoke.

"We've come here twice in a week and had two bad decisions go against us. Fate hasn't been with us in that respect.

"The referee says Yacob's jumped in to that challenge, but there's enough people moaning about refs without me going on too much."

  5. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

Tony Pulis makes the good point that he can't even appeal against Claudio Yacob's sending-off as it was for two bookings - not a straight red card.

    Full reaction to come.

  6. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

West Brom boss Tony Pulis wants to see the Claudio Yacob sending off several times before he starts his BBC interview. He's clearly very unhappy about it.

  7. Manager reaction

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

    Villa

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood: "It's huge, a massive for the club and we're delighted. I spoke to the boys in there and I'd like to dedicate it to the fans. They've stuck with us.

"It's great as a day out at Wembley is a great day out for everyone and the fans especially.

"I thought it was boring in the first half and I had a few words during the break and told them to step it up and it worked.

"I didn't see a bad tackle in the whole game. It's a shame for Jack Grealish who has his head down in there, but there's plenty more opportunities for him.

"You want to celebrate with the whole crowd. I don't think it's scary, it probably is for a West Brom player. Emotions are running very high after two wins and it's been a huge week for the football club."

  8. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

    Phil McNulty

BBC Sport chief football writer at Villa Park

    Aston Villa pitch invasion

"Plenty of Aston Villa fans still on the pitch but a toxic atmosphere has calmed now. Sad that would had previously been a boisterous and tense occasion was marred by those ugly scenes towards the final whistle - but what a week it has been for Aston Villa and new manager Tim Sherwood."

  9. 'It was scary'

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

    Villa

Man of the match Fabian Delph on the pitch invasion from supporters towards the end of the game: "Very, very scary.

"My armband got nicked, someone got my left boot, but I could appreciate the relief the fans are feeling after a result like that.

"It was dangerous. Someone tried to take my boot off. People tried to kiss me and were biting me. It was scary."

Pitch invasions - they divide opinion...

Rich Payne, Chester: Don't see what's wrong with a pitch invasion - it's called 'magical' if it's in the lower divisions, but the snobbish Premier League suddenly think it's abhorrent! Not during the match obviously, but let the fans celebrate!

Mark, Berkshire: Ban every single person who entered the field of play during that incident from every ground for life. No exception, no appeal.

Shohan Sen, Kent: Where has Aston Villa come as a club if an outing at Wembley is enough for a pitch invasion, when Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal remain in the competition? Come back when you win something Villa.

    Alan Shearer at Villa Park

    MOTD Live

"It was great desire by Fabian Delph to get in there. Yes, it was a great strike and on target but I think the keeper should have done better. We said at half-time that West Brom would regret those missed chances and sure enough that is what has happened. Two major decisions, I think the referee got them both wrong."

    Tim Sherwood

"Aston Villa have made the FA Cup semi-final, something that Tim Sherwood would have been dreaming about since taking over. Villa didn't start the game too great but the grew into the game and good luck to them."

  13. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

    Jermaine Jenas at Villa Park

    MOTD Live

"Scott Sinclair was full of energy in that second half and his finish for the second goal was that extra bit of quality the game needed. Winning's a good habit and that's exactly what Tim Sherwood has done for Villa."

  14. Post update

The FA Cup semi-final draw will take place on Monday evening - after the game between Manchester United and Arsenal.

Bradford, Reading and Aston Villa will all be in the hat.

  15. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

    Jermaine Jenas at Villa Park

    MOTD Live

"It was a much better second half performance from Villa. Much more intensity from them and they took the chances that came their way."

  16. 'They should be punished'

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

Ex WBA & Villa forward Kevin Phillips at Villa Park

    BBC Radio 5 live

"I can see West Brom players still on the pitch which for me is very dangerous. For me this has been very badly policed. Why are there still away players on there? They should be punished for it."

  17. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

There are fans hanging off the goals, mobbing Fabian Delph. This is just not acceptable.

  18. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

    Mark Lawrenson

    MOTD Live

"It's like a scene from the 1980s all over again. Absolutely ridiculous."

  19. FULL-TIME

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

    Tim Sherwood

There goes the whistle, and here come the fans. It's like a play-off semi-final win, or a last-day promotion. It is accepted then - but not here.

This is not on and there will quite possibly be some serious repercussions.

  20. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

Ex WBA & Villa forward Kevin Phillips at Villa Park

    BBC Radio 5 live

"For me these people on the pitch are not true supporters, the true supporters are the ones who are booing to get them off.

"If I was the ref I would tell the Villa players to kick the ball out in the corner and I'll blow the final whistle, so get off a bit sharpish."

  21. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

We're back playing again but this won't be the end of it. A large number of fans are standing waiting to invade the pitch again.

  22. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

    Mark Lawrenson

    MOTD Live

"Why would you do this? You're winning, absolutely stupid. Imagine if the referee abandoned the game now. Loads of villages have lost their idiots tonight. Absolutely bonkers."

  23. PITCH INVASION

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

Well this is ridiculous, it really is. Aston Villa fans have invaded the pitch. Not one or two either, a lot. What are they playing at? The majority of the fans inside the ground boo them, but play has to be halted temporarily. One fan steals the corner flag.

    This is bizarre behaviour.

  24. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

    Mark Lawrenson

    MOTD Live

"I'm not sure if he cheated, I'm really not. I don't think he was going to get the ball, but he was jumping out the way."

  25. RED CARD

Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom - Jack Grealish

    Jack Grealish is sent off

Aston Villa sub Jack Grealish has only been on the pitch for 15 minutes, but he's just been sent off for a second yellow card! He nicks the ball past Joleon Lescott and goes down, referee Anthony Taylor decides it is a dive and shows him a second booking.

Callum Gallagher: That's never a card or a sending off. Yacob stands his ground as the Villa player dives in. Nonsense decision.

Carl Hathaway: Absolutely brilliant goal from Sinclair.

  27. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

Pessimistic Villa fans will point out that Derby were 2-0 up going into stoppage time today - and only drew. It can happen!

  28. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

    Phil McNulty

BBC Sport chief football writer at Villa Park

"Sickening few moments for West Brom manager Tony Pulis - first with that harsh sending off for Claudio Yacob and then Scott Sinclair's second goal.

"Not that Aston Villa's fans care as their season has been revived in the space of seven days with a vital Premier League win and what now surely will be a trip to Wembley for the FA Cup semi-final."

  29. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

Let's hope the game is not marred by crowd trouble. Aston Villa are going to Wembley, that should be the headline from this game.

Villa have FIVE MINUTES of added time to negotiate...

  30. Crowd trouble?

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

Former WBA and Villa forward Kevin Phillips at Villa Park

    BBC Radio 5 live

"West Brom had to push forward and leave themselves open for the counter-attack and that's exactly how Aston Villa scored their goal. Game over. Well done Villa."

On the crowd unrest: "I have just looked over there and seen a seat come down. Do these supporters not have a brain because they are going to get picked out.

"It's scenes we don't want to see at football and it's going to take away from the match."

  31. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

    Mark Lawrenson

    MOTD Live

"Brown Ideye's chance was massive wasn't it? Just massive. West Brom have been punished for not scoring when they were on top in the first half."

  32. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

I'm already looking forward to seeing Tim Sherwood's Wembley suit. Or do you save the measuring up for the final? You probably should do.

Tony Pulis grimaces on the sidelines. His side have had their chances.

  33. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom

    Mark Lawrenson

    MOTD Live

"Well done Carlos Sanchez, who gets a header on the edge of the area allowing Villa to break. Scott Sinclair still did very well with the finish, but every touch on the way was just as important. A good second touch just took it out of his feet and then he was there to slot it home."

  34. GOAL

Aston Villa 2-0 West Brom - Scott Sinclair

    Scott Sinclair scores

Aston Villa are going to Wembley! A clinical counter-attack puts them 2-0 up with five minutes left. Scott Sinclair wasted a good chance running though the left channel earlier on but he buries this one. He runs through, cuts back on to his right foot and curls the ball into the far corner to spark a mini pitch invasion.

    Game over.

  35. SUBSTITUTION

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

A change in the West Brom midfield as Youssouf Mulumbu replaces Craig Gardner.

  36. 'Never a sending off'

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

Former WBA and Villa forward Kevin Phillips at Villa Park

    BBC Radio 5 live

    Claudio Yacob is sent off

"I'm very surprised. That is never a sending off in a million years. The referee has got it wrong there. It's millimetres he has left the ground there. Claudio Yacob can be really disappointed he has been sent off. That can really turn the tide now in Villa's favour."

  37. 'We may as well ban tackling'

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

    Mark Lawrenson

    MOTD Live

"The Aston Villa player slides in here when he doesn't need to. There's no need to go in for a challenge when you might get hurt. Is that even a yellow card? For me, not at all.

"You will always get hurt when you go in for a challenge like that and I don't agree. If that's a yellow card, we might as well just ban tackling forever."

  38. Man of the match - vote now

  39. RED CARD

Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom - Claudio Yacob

A red card for West Brom midfielder Claudio Yacob! He jumps into the challenge, his feet leave the ground, but there doesn't look too much wrong with it as Villa midfielder Leandro Bacuna slides into him. Referee Anthony Taylor sees it as a second booking and Yacob is off.

That could be the end of West Brom's chances...

  40. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

That's a great delivery! Brilliant corner from Chris brunt ties Shay Given in a knot, again it could be a tap-in at the far post but they can't quite touch it in...

  41. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

Into the final 15 minutes now. It's not happened for West Brom since that miss from Joleon Lescott, and Villa are the side looking most likely to score. Scott Sinclair gets a cross in and Craig Gardner almost hooks the loose ball into his own net. Just over the top!

  42. SUBSTITUTION

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

Another attacking sub, you can't accuse Tim Sherwood of sitting on a lead. Teenager Jack Grealish replaces Charles N'Zogbia on the right of midfield.

  43. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

Former WBA and Villa forward Kevin Phillips at Villa Park

    BBC Radio 5 live

"This game is really opening up now and Aston Villa are dominating. It is becoming frustrating for West Brom. At the moment they are resorting to route-one football and trying to win the second balls.

"Scott Sinclair has done really well. He has looked really lively in the second-half. He and Charles N'Zogbia on the wings have been very good."

  44. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

    Tony Pulis

West Brom are so ragged since that change of shape, I don't even know which shape they are supposed to have but whatever it is, it's wrong. Aston Villa have another great chance as they get clear, it's laid back to the waiting Ashley Westwood and his shot is blocked by a flying Albion defender.

Villa should be out of sight. They should be booking the hotel and the train tickets for Wembley.

  45. CLOSE!

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

Scott Sinclair again! West Brom's defence has been all over the place since they took Jonas Olsson off and Scott Sinclair runs in behind them again. He is never convincing on his left foot though, you never backed him to hit the target and he doesn't, dragging a shot wide from 18 yards.

At the other end Saido Berahino hits one well wide from similar range.

  46. GREAT SAVE!

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

Great save! Villa almost make it two as they put together a neat move, freeing Scott Sinclair in behind but Boaz Myhill comes out brilliantly to spread himself and make a fine sprawling save. That was the game right there. Wembley beckoned for Sinclair and for Villa.

  47. SUBSTITUTION

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

Is Callum McManaman the man to make the difference for West Brom? The winger is on for centre-half Jonas Olsson as Albion have a tactical reshuffle.

  48. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

Former WBA and Villa forward Kevin Phillips at Villa Park

    BBC Radio 5 live

"Tony Pulis is really trying to push his team on. He is very animated on the sidelines. I don't think the route-one football will work for West Brom as the two Aston Villa centre-backs are dealing with it.

"If Aston Villa want to see this game out the whole stadium has got to stay behind them - as they are at the moment."

  49. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

    Phil McNulty

BBC Sport chief football writer at Villa Park

    Joleon Lescott

"Will West Brom rue those missed chances? Joleon Lescott, for a defender, normally has a sure touch when presented with those positions from set pieces but he tried to make too sure. Since then some flashes of searing pace from Saido Berahino provide evidence that there is still plenty here for the Baggies."

  50. SUBSTITUTION

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

Tom Cleverley gets a hearty round of applause as he is replaced by Carlos Sanchez in the Villa midfield. Where will Tom Cleverley be playing next season? There's a debate for another day...

  51. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

Into the last half an hour. More goals in this? The game is as open as it has been all afternoon, as Scott Sinclair gets a shot away at one end and seconds later Craig Gardner puts in a testing cross at the other end. Aston Villa's last two home games have been settled bya decisive last-minute penalty. So I doubt this one will have a relaxing finale...

  53. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

Former WBA and Villa forward Kevin Phillips at Villa Park

    BBC Radio 5 live

"Oh my dear! I have seen two opportunities from West Brom that should be in the back of the net. How Joleon Lescott missed that I just do not know. It looks like he was trying to be too precise.

"If West Brom go on to lose this game they will rue two missed chances from Brown Ideye and Lescott."

  54. YELLOW CARD

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

    Gabriel Agbonlahor

Gabriel Agbonlahor is booked for hacking down Joleon Lescott but Tim Sherwood won't mind. He is setting the tempo, closing down from the front. It's been a much better showing in the second half. But West Brom look dangerous every time they get the ball in the area.

  55. SITTER!

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

    Joleon Lescott

That's two stone cold sitters that West Brom have missed today now! Brown Ideye shanked one over in the first half and now Joleon Lescott heads wide from four yards out. Again it is a corner which undoes Villa, an inswinging ball finds Lescott at the back post and he heads it wide.

    Has to hit the target...

  56. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

West Brom equalised on Tuesday night from a set-piece and another deep free-kick causes panic in the Villa defence, Brown Ideye is jostling for it and it eventually falls for Joleon Lescott. If he could have anticipated it, he would have had a real chance. But the ball took him by surprise and just ends up hitting him.

  57. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

    Phil McNulty

BBC Sport chief football writer at Villa Park

"Claret smoke from flares filled the air as Fabian Delph put the home side in front. Albion have been the better side so far but that was an emphatic finish - and received a much more reserved reaction from manager Tim Sherwood than the goals in Tuesday's league game. Albion had looked very solid up to that point but now need a goal to add to that."

  58. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

Can West Brom respond then? Tony Pulis's response to that goal was extremely X-rated. Villa have looked a different team since the break.

  59. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom

Former WBA and Villa forward Kevin Phillips at Villa Park

    BBC Radio 5 live

    Fabian Delph

"What a finish from Fabian Delph. Whatever Tim Sherwood said to his players at half time they have had an immediate response. A great start to the second half.

"Watching Tony Pulis in the build up to that goal, Charles N'Zogbia was allowed to bring the ball down far too easy on this side and Pulis was going mad."

  60. GOAL

Aston Villa 1-0 West Brom - Fabian Delph

    Fabian Delph

Boom! Boom, shake shake the room! Fabian Delph gives us lift off with a cracking hit, great goal from the Villa captain. They work the ball nicely from the right to the left, Delph is the overlapping man and he can just run on to a perfectly-weighted pass and put his left foot through the shot.

He hits it hard and low from 18 yards, fine technique and power, past Boaz Myhill in a flash.

  61. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-0 West Brom

That's better, and it gets the Holte End singing again. Villa attack with purpose and direction down the right, the ball is cut back to Leandro Bacuna and his low cross is cut out by a stretching Boaz Myhill.

  62. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-0 West Brom

Former WBA and Villa forward Kevin Phillips at Villa Park

    BBC Radio 5 live

"We saw a real great run from Scott Sinclair in the first half and maybe Tim Sherwood has said to him at the break that is what we want to see and he has done it already. How many times do you see that now, right-footed players cutting in from the left? He will probably give it 10 or fifteen minutes and then swap flanks."

  63. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-0 West Brom

Villa yet to have an effort on target, we had one on target in the whole of the Bradford v Reading game, come on!

  68. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-0 West Brom

    Alan Shearer at Villa Park

    MOTD Live

"Better movement and more anticipation from Villa's front two would've paid off for them. Gabriel Agbonlahor isn't gambling on getting to the near post. He has got to ask more questions of the defender and if you wait for the ball to come to you, it's too late. If he did that, he'd have a better goalscoring ratio."

  69. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-0 West Brom

    Jermaine Jenas at Villa Park

"Tony Pulis will be the happier of the two managers at half-time. Craig Gardner has been effective getting balls up to the front two. Everything about Brown Ideye's posture was wrong for that chance when the ball came across to him. He's just got to keep his head down and get over it."

    Tim Sherwood and Tony Pulis

"I think Tony Pulis is just slightly out doing Tim Sherwood (with his touchline antics) at the moment because his team have been the better in these 37/38 minutes. He won't be pleased that his side aren't going to go in at least a goal up."

  79. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-0 West Brom

Villa's first attack in a long time comes from a quick turnover of possession in the centre, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Fabian Delph link up well but Delph's delivery is poor. Villa then waste a free-kick out wide. A real lack of quality so far from the home side. You can evidently see why they've scored so few goals.

  80. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-0 West Brom

West Brom now well on top, some nervous energy across the stands inside Villa Park. Without Christian Benteke the home side have no out ball. A half-time change may be needed.

  81. GREAT SAVE!

    Aston Villa 0-0 West Brom

Shay Given being kept busy now. Chris Brunt hits a strike into the head of team-mate Jonas Olsson, it loops up and forces Given into tipping over the top. Good stop!

    Phil McNulty

BBC Sport chief football writer at Villa Park

"Gabriel Agbonlahor's pace was Aston Villa's main source of danger here on Tuesday but he has been kept well under control so far today. No chances since that early miss from Brown Ideye - indeed Villa have yet to create a worthwhile opportunity. Albion the better side but still as tight as you would expect from a derby FA Cup quarter-final."

  83. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-0 West Brom

After a fair few minutes of nothingness, West Brom do create an opportunity. Craig Dawson - who all logic tells you should be useless at full-back, but actually is useful - beats his man and puts in a telling cross which Brown Ideye heads at Shay Given. Great ball, deserved better.

    Brown Ideye

The only real incident of note so far has been a bad miss from Brown Ideye - and you can now watch it in the highlights tab at the top of the screen.

James Morrison took that win on points, he physically dragged Claudio Yacob across the pitch. One for Tony Pulis to calm down at the interval.

Can someone take the game in hand though? It's drifting along at the minute.

"You saw West Brom midfielder James Morrison having a real go at his own player Claudio Yacob. He was chasing after the ball and not keeping his shape. They would have worked on that all week and if you don't keep you shape Villa can pop balls in behind you."

  87. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-0 West Brom

    West Brom's Craig Gardner

The optimism of the opening 10 minutes is fading away as we settle into a rather tepid midfield game. The first goal could be crucial but neither side look likely just now.

"You have to try and keep the whole squad happy in the Premier League and it's a great opportunity to give your second keeper [Boaz Myhill] a run in the cup games. It will be interesting to see if they go all the way to the final what they will do. But Ben Foster is a great goalkeeper and he will get over that mistake the other night."

    Aston Villa's Fabian Delph

Better from Villa in the last few minutes, Gabriel Agbonlahor has seen more of the ball and captain Fabian Delph is taking charge in midfield. They are yet to test Albion keeper Boaz Myhill though.

Brian Fagan: Shame Shay Given wasted so much of his later career sitting on Man City's and Villa's bench. Fantastic keeper.

Rich: Tim Sherwood clearly a student of the Kevin Keegan school of 'kick every ball' management.

    Aston Villa 0-0 West Brom

    Phil McNulty

BBC Sport chief football writer at Villa Park

"West Brom barely got out of the blocks in the first half on Tuesday. Not a bit of it here as they have been much the livelier side in the opening phase. Brown Ideye had to score with that early chance.

"Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood got under the skin of West Brom's fans by describing them as a "good little club" this week - and they are letting him know as much in very loud and colourful terms."

  93. YELLOW CARD

    Aston Villa 0-0 West Brom

James Morrison gets the away fans into even louder voice by sprinting back and dispossessing Tom Cleverley, he then turns off and hares down the line himself until Charles N'Zogbia takes him out. Bad tackle - booking.

"It's a huge blow missing Christian Benteke. We are only 10 minutes or so in but you can already see Villa are struggling to get forward. They have sort of gone back to the Paul Lambert way of keeping possession but not really making any attacking headway."

    West Brom manager Tony Pulis

A half-hearted penalty appeal is waved away as West Brom cause havoc from a free-kick, Tony Pulis will be delighted with this start. By far the better side in the opening 12 minutes.

  96. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-0 West Brom

Villa counter well and Scott Sinclair wins a corner with some good work. A nice touch as the whole of Villa Park stand in support of former Albion favourite, and number nine, Jeff Astle. Rivalry quite rightly put to one side for a minute.

"Only Brown Ideye will know how he missed that. All he has got to do is put his knee over the ball and it is a tap in. That's an easy chance for a player who has been in great form.

"This a good start from the away team here."

  98. CLOSE!

    Aston Villa 0-0 West Brom

Chance! West Brom should lead as they carve a very open Aston Villa apart. One ball down the side is all it takes to spring Craig Gardner, he does everything right, gets his head up and flashes it across first time. Brown Ideye gets there first, eight yards out, and he blasts it into the Holte End.

If he hits the target, it's 1-0.

  99. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-0 West Brom

Former WBA and Villa forward Kevin Phillips at Villa Park

    BBC Radio 5 live

"It's widely known that Saido Berahino and Brown Ideye are playing with injections. If you are a Villa supporter what you want to do is to leave a little bit there in a challenge - but you don't want to see a bad tackle - to let them know you know that they are playing with a little bit of pain. But there is no way either of those players will want to come off this afternoon."

  100. GREAT SAVE!

    Aston Villa 0-0 West Brom

Tim Sherwood has his pros, he has his cons, but he certainly has Aston Villa playing at a higher tempo. It may be the fact that I'm a footballing philistine, but I found Paul Lambert's possession football incredibly dull to watch. Sherwood's Villa are much more up-and-at-'em.

But it's Albion with the first shot on goal, Saido Berahino cracking a drive from the edge of the box which Shay Given has to beat clear.

  101. Post update

You won't see two more animated managers on the sidelines than Tony Pulis and Tim Sherwood. They are already up and about, shouting out instructions. West Brom were expected to play three at the back today but Joleon Lescott has started at left-back of a back four. A flexible approach?

More from Tim Sherwood speaking to Pat Murphy: "There's plenty of worse jobs out there at the moment than managing Aston Villa. You learn through adversity and there's certainly lots of adversity here at the moment.

"I don't think we're typically cut out for a relegation battle. I think we're far more equipped for a tilt at the Europa League, but maybe a 94th-minute penalty against West Brom is the kind of thing we need to change that approach and mentality."

    "We're not considering relegation."

A marvellous watch this: Local poet Benjamin Zephaniah delivers his ode to the West Midlands derby in Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final between Aston Villa and West Brom.

    Phil McNulty

BBC Sport chief football writer at Villa Park

"The second west Midlands derby of the week here at Villa Park as Aston Villa meet West Bromwich Albion - but two of the main protagonists of the home side's vital Premier League win on Tuesday will not be involved.

"Villa's match-winner Christian Benteke is out with a hip injury while Boaz Myhill returns for FA Cup duty in place of Ben Foster in goal. Foster's name was greeted with ironic cheers from the Holte End when it was read out after he capped a dreadful performance by conceding a penalty with seconds left, allowing Benteke to score.

"A place at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final is at stake today, so a game already high in tension will have an added edge."

"I think Tim would've gone in and let the boys know exactly how he would've wanted the game played. He would've given put an arm round many of them and given them the confidence they needed to go out there and get results and I think that's where the turnaround has come from."

  118. (Not) nice to see you

Aston Villa v West Brom (kick off 17:30 GMT)

    Joleon Lescott

Joleon Lescott will be dreading seeing Gabriel Agbonlahor in action again so soon. The Villa striker terrorised the former England man in midweek, with his pace and power causing no end of trouble.

As one pundit said - and I think this was meant as praise - he was doing the things "he used to be good at."

  121. Last time we met...

Aston Villa v West Brom (17:30 GMT)

It's not often you get two games inside a week with the same opposition at the same ground. But it was only four days ago that the two teams met at Villa Park.

West Brom keeper Ben Foster conceded a last-minute penalty and as a result he has been dropped today. Boaz Myhill makes a rare start.

  122. Sherwood style

Aston Villa v West Brom (17:30 GMT)

    Dion Dublin

Former Aston Villa striker, Football Focus

"Gordon Strachan was exactly the same as Tim Sherwood, kicking every ball. He's passionate, sweating like he's right out there.

"I like it, I think that passion is exactly what you want to see as a player as it gets the message across to you. If you see a manager who normally does that, who is suddenly quiet, it makes you worry just a bit more."

  123. Post update

Aston Villa v West Brom (17:30 GMT)

Villa boss Tim Sherwood cheekily called West Brom 'a nice little club' this week, which Tony Pulis batted away in style, presumably while standing up in his news conference.

Villa are fighting the drop this season but a trip to Wembley could give them the tonic they need. TP has already steadied the good ship Albion, and why not go all the way themselves?
