England captain Wayne Rooney tells BBC Radio 5 live about Harry Kane's impact: "It's a great lift for the nation.

"He's scoring goals in the Premier League and now he's doing it at international level.

"We're a close group of players, we're all excited to have him with us and we want him to do well."

More info on the abandoned qualifier between Montenegro and Russia tonight.

The game was delayed by 35 minutes when Russian goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev was hit in the head by a flare soon after kick-off. Midway through the second half a scuffle ensued between players by the touchline.

The score was 0-0 at the time and German referee Deniz Aytekin ordered the players back into the dressing room for the second time moments after Montenegro keeper Vukasin Poleksic saved a Roman Shirokov penalty.

"I's a special night and definitely one I won't forget. It's what you dream of as a kid, it's a bit of a daze and enjoying every minute of it.

"The boss made his decision and I had to get on with it and when called upon be ready. To be able to repay the fans is amazing."

Roy Hodgson on BBC 5 live: "You can only beat what's in front of you. We had to work hard to wear them down in the first half and we got our reward in the second half when they tired.

"Our major test will be when we get to France and I'm convinced we'll get there. We've got a year and bit to work with them and this team are so young."

Who's missing?

England manager Roy Hodgson says Leighton Baines, Raheem Sterling, James Milner and Danny Welbeck will miss Tuesday's friendly against Italy. Left-back Ryan Bertrand has been "invited" to join the squad.

There are reports that the game between Russia and Montenegro has now been abandoned because of crowd trouble. More on that when we get it.

England manager Roy Hodgson tells BBC 5 live: "It's good Harry gets his chance and grabs it with both hands - it adds that bit of magic to the evening.

"In this way of playing, he competes with Wayne Rooney. To get him in the team we would have to change our way our way of playing. We can do that but the players are suited to the way we're playing at the moment.

"We've got so many good players I feel whoever I put in will do a good job. Everyone's trying to be a good unit."

England manager Roy Hodgson says that Ryan Bertrand has been invited to join the squad for Tuesday's friendly in Italy, while James Milner and Leighton Baines are returning home.

'We should just be happy'

Asked whether Harry Kane has shown that he is a natural goalscorer at international level, England manager Roy Hodgson told ITV Sport: "I think it's too early to put this pressure on Harry Kane.

"We should just be happy that he has done so well for Tottenham and made a name for himself to get into the England set-up.

"That's not easy to do as we have a number of good forwards but let's be happy with that and leave the future predictions to the future."

'It's nice when fairy-tales come true'

England manager Roy Hodgson told ITV Sport: "It's fantastic for Harry Kane and we're delighted for him. It's a bit of a fairy-tale but it's nice when fairy-tales come true and it has come true for Harry. He has had a wonderful season and crowned his debut with a well-taken goal."

On injuries to Danny Welbeck and Raheem Sterling, Hodgson added: "It is two blows for us. Raheem Sterling was waiting for an injection on his toe - he has been waiting for a while. I agreed with Brendan (Rodgers) that he would play tonight as it was the qualifier but he will now have the injection.

"If we're unlucky we will lose him and Danny Welbeck (for the game against Italy on Tuesday). They're important players in the system we're trying to play, but it will give opportunities for other players."

Sterling was always due to miss the game, but Welbeck has picked up an unspecified injury.

"I was disappointed with the first one (of two shots that hit the woodwork) and I got a bit of a shove as I hit it. But I'm happy to score and to get the win, it's a big three points for us.

"Since the World Cup we have been fantastic. We've had some great victories, are scoring goals and we have real energy around the team.

"A lot of teams will be looking at this team around Europe and will be frightened."

England striker Harry Kane, who scored within 80 seconds of his international debut, told ITV Sport: "It's not a bad start. I dreamed of this and it's just a bit of a blur at the moment. I'm delighted for the lads.

"It's the best moment of my career . To represent my country at senior level is the top and hopefully I can continue to keep doing it and hopefully this goal is the first of many."

Spain have secured a crucial three points in Group C with a 1-0 victory over Ukraine thanks to Alvaro Morata's first-half strike in Sevilla. Vicente del Bosque's side remain three points behind pool leaders Slovakia, who cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Luxembourg but are three ahead of third-placed Ukraine. Belarus beat Macedonia 2-1 in a bad-tempered match in Skopje.

Austria remain in control of Group G after a 4-0 win over Liechtenstein, with Sweden still four points behind after a 2-0 win in Moldova thanks to a brace from striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Russia's clash with Montenegro in Podgorica is goalless at half-time following a lengthy delay after goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev was hit by a flare.

It was mentioned by many of you in the first half but you have to wonder whether England need a back four, Michael Carrick and Fabian Delph out there. There has been precious little for them to do.

Martin Harnik and Marc Janko were both on target for the visitors. Goalless at half-time in Prague and Czech Republic are marginally the better team with Tom Carroll clearing one of the line for Gareth Southgate's side.

Danny Welbeck takes a tumble inside the penalty area but he's not getting a penalty for that. Welbeck has been very involved, while Raheem Sterling has been pretty quiet.

Danny Welbeck caught offside, that's a tight call and he was away and gone too. Too much pace, too much guile in the England attack so far.
