  1. Post update

We'll see you all on Wednesday evening then for more of the same in the Champions League.

    Well, except with goals, hopefully...

  2. Messi close to 400

    Paris St-Germain v Barca

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi admits he "did not feel good" after struggling with injuries last season.

The Argentine suffered a trophyless campaign with his club, and lost in the 2014 World Cup final to Germany.

But he has found his form again this season, scoring 45 goals in 44 games.

On the eve of their Champions League quarter-final first leg with Paris St-Germain, he said: "It was a year I have tried to forget quickly to get back to my best with effort, work and joy."

The 27-year-old needs one more goal to reach the landmark of 400 for the Catalan side, as they come up against PSG for the third time in the competition this season, having already met in the group stages.

  3. Kroos control

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

I mentioned at half time that Toni Kroos had completed all but one of his attempted passes - it's a feat he mirrored in the second half, Kroos ends the night with 66 of 68 passes completed (97.1%).

  4. 'We can win again'

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez: "It is not the result that we want but last year we went to Stamford Bridge after the same result and won. We will go to Real and try to win.

"We know each other very well, defensively we were very good but offensively we needed more. Both sides had chances to win. Jan Oblak had an amazing game."

  5. 'We should score'

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

    Carlo

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti: "It is not so good a result. We played really well first half and should score but we are happy for the performance. We have to try and repeat our first-half performance in our stadium.

"It was a good save against Gareth Bale in my opinion. He had a very good game."

  6. Tomorrow's games

Tomorrow's Champions League quarter-final first legs are as follows:

    Porto v Bayern Munich - 19:45 BST

    Paris Saint-Germain v Barcelona - 19:45 BST

Both games will be covered as ever right here.

  7. Post update

The return legs of tonight's games take place next Wednesday night, if you were wondering.

  8. Join the debate at #bbcfootball

Oscar Block10: That has to go down as the most entertaining 0-0 in recent history.

Jay Bains: Great result for Atletico. No away goals conceded, they should score away with the Gung Ho approach of Real at the Bernabeu

  9. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

Carlo Ancelotti will be wondering how his side didn't take the win tonight - that's no wins in seven against their rivals Atletico now this season.

Atleti were much better in the second half.

  10. FULL-TIME

    Juventus 1-0 Monaco

Juve hold a very slim lead going into the second leg in Monaco next week.

You can follow updates on that game in a separate page - click here to follow action from Turin.

  11. FULL-TIME

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

It's all over. Goalless at halfway of this quarter-final. Atletico keeper Jan Oblak was the star turn, Gareth Bale missed the best chance. Compelling viewing.

  12. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

    Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has been kept quiet tonight but he does get a low shot away on the spin - again Jan Oblak is in the right place.

  13. INJURY TIME

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

    THREE MINUTES added on...

  14. CLOSE!

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

Iker Casillas with a very shaky 30 seconds! First he flaps in the face of Fernando Torres and then just about keeps out Mario Suarez's hooked effort.

Mario Mandzukic lashes in a shot straight at the chest of Alvaro Arbeloa. Taking one for the team!

  15. YELLOW CARD

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

Atletico Madrid don't concede goals and the second leg could be just as tricky for Real. Marcelo is now booked and will miss the second leg. Fernando Torres wins a corner...

  16. SUBSTITUTION

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

Alvaro Arbeloa is on for Dani Carvajal for Real. Fernando Torres' first involvement sees him run into the box and Sergio Ramos shuts him out.

  17. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

Five to go. Real win a corner. Is this Sergio Ramos time?

Nope, but Luka Modric goes close from 20 yards as the corner is headed out, firing on the bounce just over the top.

  18. Join the debate at #bbcfootball

Dennis Ethan: Juanfran has really been quiet tonight. No attacking threat he normally causes on the right wing.

Matt Rodway: Atletico shoring things up now by bringing Torres on...

  19. YELLOW CARD

Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid - SUAREZ SUSPENDED

Atletico midfielder Mario Suarez will miss the second leg, he's booked and will now be banned.

  20. SUBSTITUTION

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

Fernando Torres time. They still love him at the Calderon and he gets a massive reception as he replaces Koke. Can Nando find another famous Atleti goal?

  21. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

What a run! The bearded Arda Turan has the ball out on the right, and like an inverse Ricky Villa he dribbles through two or three white shirts, into the area and his pass to Koke is just undercooked. Sensational feet though. Atleti have a long throw and Diego Godin swivels to shoot over the bar.

  22. YELLOW CARD

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

    Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo are playing up front for Real now. Decent pedigree there. Sergio Ramos involved in another dust-up as sub Raul Garcia is booked. Ramos is too finally.

  23. SUBSTITUTION

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

Change for the hosts, but it's not Mario Mandzukic coming off but Antoine Griezmann, Raul Garcia coming on. Enforcer for magician.

  24. SUBSTITUTION

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

Isco on for Karim Benzema. Very unfortunate not to keep his place, Isco. He's had a belter of a season. Benzema will be thinking that he should have had a shot instead of passing a few minutes ago. And he'd be right too.

  25. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

After a tense 10-minute spell it's all opening up again, big holes in midfield from both sides. Neither team getting a hold of the game. Time for one more chance?

    Mario Mandzukic

Atletico Madrid need to get Mario Mandzukic off before he gets sent off. Another swinging arm in the direction of Dani Carvajal. Lucky not see another yellow card there. Ever since he was clattered by Sergio Ramos he's been out for vengeance like a Tarantino character.

  29. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

So untidy! A right old stramash inside the area as Karim Benzema somehow passes to Cristiano Ronaldo when the ball fell to him 15 yards out. Shoot man!

Ronaldo sees his shot blocked under pressure, and Gareth Bale has the third swing at it but also hits an Atleti defender.

The real chance was for Benzema. A great chance!

  30. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

    Atletico Madrid fans

Still a cracking noise inside the Calderon. It's anyone's game now. Real's early fluency has been stemmed somewhat. They've only had 56.7% of possession in the second half - down from 64% in the first.

  31. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

Under half an hour to go of the first leg. After 10 or 15 minutes I would have predicted a shed load of goals but a combination of poor finishing, brilliance from Jan Oblak and a lack of cutting edge from Atletico leaves us poised at 0-0.

Fernando Torres to come on and win it?

  33. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

    Arda Turan

Arda Turan flights in a good ball from the right but Guillherme Siqueira alms his shot into the back of Gareth Bale. In the background, Dani Carvajal threw a punch at Mario Mandzukic after a lengthy tussle! He got away with one there. Mandzukic's head is all over the place. An emotional wreck.

  34. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

The tempo has died down now, Atleti maybe starting to see 0-0 as a good result. It's a slower watch but still a very high standard.

  35. Post update

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

Mario Mandzukic needs more treatment on that cut face. You can understand his anger, he thinks Sergio Ramos has done him.

  36. GOAL

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

    Sergio Ramos

The way Sergio Ramos defends, he should look like Steve Bruce really. Life's not fair is it? Not a hair out of place as Mario Mandzukic raged in his face after that challenge. Mandzukic has not calmed down. he is absolutely seething.

    Sergio Ramos

Brilliant defending from Sergio Ramos. He does brilliantly to back pedal and win a key header to stop Mario Mandzukic getting on the end of a cross. He catches Mandzukic on the dace and there's plenty of blood shed here. Nothing deliberate in that for me. Brilliant defending.

    Mandzukic is livid though.

  43. CLOSE!

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

Atleti's best chance so far. Juanfran gets forwards from right-back, he didn't manage that once in the first half, he delivers a telling cross and Arda Turan ghosts in to head wide. Should do better really, under minimal pressure.

    Karim Benzema

Ridiculous pace! Atletico work a short corner which doesn't work out, Raphael Varane cuts it out on the edge of his own box and just sets off, like a young Martin Offiah, bursting down the wing for 60-70 yards!

He pulls it across, Karim Benzema finds James Rodriguez and his low drive is once more saved by Jan Oblak. One-handed. Top save. If Garth Crooks did a Champions League team of the week, your man Jan would be nailed on.

Closer! Real Madrid are not so much knocking on the door as just holding down the doorbell now. Luka Modric the next to go close with a Galactico toe-poke, 25 yards out with the power of a comic book character, inches over the bar. A goal for the visitors before the break?

  63. GREAT SAVE!

    Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid

You've got no right to use your left foot there! Brilliant piece of play from James Rodriguez as the World Cup golden boot winner hits a bending shot with the outside of his left foot, 22 yards out and Jan Oblak makes yet another great save. Real could be home and hosed if it wasn't for the Slovenian keeper.

At the other end Sergio Ramos then gives the ball away and Antoine Griezmann shoots at Iker Casillas.

Cracking atmosphere at the Calderon as you'd expect, real fever pitch stuff.

You look at the sides tonight and Real Madrid's strength could well be their weakness. A front six of ridiculous attacking strength but not much in the way of defensive balance. Maybe Carlo Ancelotti is banking on an away goal or two...

Of course! The two Milan teams would have zero distance to travel. I seem to recall that they met in a semi-final a decade or so ago too.

  107. Real gone kid

Atletico Madrid v Real Madrid (19:45 BST)

He may not be involved tonight but Martin Odegaard will overcome his initial problems and be a Real Madrid success, says former boss Ronny Deila.

The Spaniards beat a host of clubs, including Celtic, to buy the Norway midfielder, 16, from Deila's former club, Stromsgodset, in January.

    Odegaard

But the teenager has been criticised for his displays with Real's B team, with his attitude also questioned.

"I think he in the future will be better and better," said Deila, suggesting there is no big problem.

"I can assure you that he has no attitude problem. That's 100% certain."

Reports in Spain have suggested that Odegaard, who cost Real more than £2m, has insisted on training with Real's first team instead of Castilla, who play in the third tier, Segunda Division B.

  110. How do Atletico hurt Real?

Atletico Madrid v Real Madrid (19:45 BST)

    Andy West

    European football writer

"One of the specific tactical keys to Atletico's recent dominance over Real is their ability to exploit their attacking strength and Real's defensive weakness: width.

    Atletico Madrid

"All four of Atletico's goals against Real in February came from crosses - three from the right wing, where deceptively skilful right-back Juanfran regularly surges forward to showcase his outstanding crossing ability.

"Los Rojiblancos are especially dangerous when they play against Real because of Carlo Ancelotti's 4-3-3 formation. That allows Gareth Bale and especially Cristiano Ronaldo to be largely absolved of defensive duties and frequently leaves full-backs Marcelo and Dani Carvajal outnumbered."

  116. Record breakers?

Atletico Madrid v Real Madrid (19:45 BST)

    Record Breakers

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has once more become the record appearance holder in the Champions League tonight.

The 33-year-old - yep, still only 33! - is currently level on 146 appearances in the competition with Barcelona legend Xavi and will hit the 147 once we kick-off. Casillas has won the competition on three occasions.

Cristiano Ronaldo can also regain a record - he and Barcelona legend Lionel Messi are currently locked on 75 goals in the tournament.

  117. How did they get here?

Atletico Madrid v Real Madrid (19:45 BST)

Atletico Madrid topped their group ahead of Juventus, picking up 13 points from six games and losing just once, a 3-2 defeat to Olympiakos.

In the knockout round they beat Bayer Leverkusen on penalties after a 1-1 aggregate draw.

    Real_Schalke

Real had a perfect record in their group, scoring 16 times and beating Liverpool home and away. A 2-0 win at Schalke in the first leg set them up for a seemingly straightforward route to the last eight, only for the German side to beat them 4-3 at the Bernabeu and trigger a tidal wave of white hankies...

They snuck through 5-4 on aggregate though.

  118. How do Atletico hurt Real?

Atletico Madrid v Real Madrid (19:45 BST)

    Andy West

    European football writer

"British fans who lament the demise of traditional "up and at 'em" qualities such as passion and team spirit should love Atletico, because their hyper-charged, never-yield-an-inch mentality is one of the cornerstones of their recent success.

    Atletico Madrid

"Real, on the other hand, often attempt to take the pace out of the game, allowing their superior technical quality to shine by playing a calmer, less frenetic game.

"Against Atletico that doesn't work. To have any chance of overturning their dismal recent derby record, Real must match their opponents' work ethic. If they don't, they will be physically smothered and overwhelmed."

Atletico make three changes as Mario Mandzukic replaces Fernando Torres while Real put all the attackers on the earth in the side. Toni Kroos will be a busy boy. Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema all come back.

Atletico XI: Oblak, Juanfran, Miranda, Godin, Siqueira, Gabi, Mario, Arda, Griezmann, Koke and Mandzukic

Real XI: Casillas; Carvajal, Varane, Ramos, Marcelo; Kroos, Modric, James; Bale, Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo

  121. Real problems

Atletico Madrid v Real Madrid (19:45 BST)

Last year, Atletico Madrid broke the Real/Barca duopoly on La Liga with a stunning title win - and were within a minute of adding the Champions League title too.

    Diego Simeone

Sergio Ramos's header dent the final into extra-time and Real eventually won 4-1 to take their 10th title.

In the summer Atletico lost David Villa to the MLS, Thibaut Courtois, Filipe Luis and Diego Costa to Chelsea - but still threaten.

Diego Simeon's side have lost one of their last eight games against Real, and none of six this season.

Are they set for another upset?

Hit the metro, line five - the green one, and depart at the Piramides stop.

You'll already hear the crowd. A sea of red and white cascading down towards the old Vicente Calderon, striding the banks of the Manzanares river.

Tonight, the crowd will be doubly loud, doubly passionate, doubly ready.

For tonight Atletico Madrid face deadly rivals Real. For a place in the last four of the Champions League. The Champions League they came so close to winning last season. The Champions League their manager Diego Simeone would love to win.

Tonight, for a few hours at least, Madrid is the hub of the footballing world. Is she ready?

    Vicente Calderon

    You bet.
