  1. Post update

It is now time for me to bid you farewell. Enjoy yourselves, be good, and we will see you again tomorrow for another action-packed day of Premier League football. Be there.

  2. Post update

Anyway, time for all of you to enjoy your Easter.

Don't forget Match of the Day is on at 22:30 BST this evening and you can watch on BBC One and on the BBC Sport website. It should be worth a watch.

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Chris White: Eden Hazard almost single-handedly taking Chelsea to the title. Best player in the league, brilliant.

Naveed Afzal: And that is why Eden Hazard is the best player in the Premier League. He ran the show, yet again. Has to win Player of the Year. It's not even debatable.

  4. Tight at the bottom

    Premier League

A couple of big wins at the bottom of the Premier League table as Leicester beat West Ham and QPR hammered West Brom. That puts the pressure on Sunderland ahead of tomorrow's derby against Newcastle and on Burnley as they visit Tottenham earlier in the day.

Things could be bunching up at the foot of the table.

  5. Cheerio Telford

We have had our first relegation....

The Conference's bottom club AFC Telford United became the first team in England's top five divisions to be relegated on April 3 after they could only draw 1-1 with Kidderminster.

Dartford will join them on Easter Monday if they lose and Alfreton avoid defeat, or if they draw and Alfreton win.

    Your favourite goals from distance

Charlie Adam scored for Stoke from about 65 yards out (see 44 mins). Well inside his own half. What are your favourite goals from distance?

Mike MacKenzie, Edinburgh: Chris Maguire, now of Sheffield Wednesday, for Scotland U21s. Straight from kick-off after conceding v Iceland. Can't be bettered for a response to going behind.

Matt, Bristol: Joe Cole for England v Sweden in the 2006 World Cup. That's probably the best goal I can remember full stop.

James, Macclesfield: Waide Fairhurst for Macclesfield Town at Kidderminster, their 'keeper cleared it to Waide who hit it first time from the half-way line back with interest!

  8. Player reaction

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Stoke midfielder Charle Adam, speaking to BBC Sport about his wonder goal: "I never knew I had that much power, to beat a quality goalkeeper like that is something special. One that I will always remember. It was one of them that sat up nicely and I saw the goalie off his line. I was lucky enough that it went in. Once in a lifetime this can happen to you, it's great on an individual level - a great way to get my 50th goal in English football - but the team lost and that is the disappointing thing."

  9. Stats of the game

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

    - Eden Hazard's penalty goal was Chelsea's 100th in Premier League history. Liverpool (102) are the only other team to reach that milestone.

    - Chelsea have now opened the scoring in 24 of their 30 Premier League games this season.

    - Charlie Adam became the first Stoke player to score a league goal at Stamford Bridge since Rory Delap (January 2009).

    - Chelsea have scored exactly 99 goals in all competitions this season.

  10. BBC coverage

    Match of the Day

Tune in to Match of the Day on BBC One and the BBC Sport website from 22:30 GMT. Charlie Adam's stunning strike for Stoke is surely reason enough.

  11. Manager reaction

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

More from Chelsea boss on BBC Sport: "A performance that deserved three points but the reality is that we played against a very good defensive team who defended well. They put lots of strong bodies in defensive areas and made it difficult. We moved the ball well in the first half and we had fantastic movement and in the second half we had to try other things. It was an unbelievable goal.

"In this moment, it is five victories and a done draw. Every victory and a draw is one step ahead. The others know they have to win every game. For us, we have to think about ourselves and forget about others. We know we have eight matches and we need five victories and a draw."

  12. Manager reaction

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

More from Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, speaking to Sky Sports: "The most important thing is the three points. The importance is obvious, we started the game needing six wins and one draw and now we need five wins and one draw. It was difficult and deserved. We controlled the game and had the ball in the first half, tried to penetrate through a well organised defence, we try and try and finally scored a goal with a great combination.

"Nobody expected that the first shot they had they would score, and at 1-1 the game becomes the same game that we started. We deserved to win, it was difficult but this is the normal pressure of the final couple of months in every championship. I wouldn't expect to play beautifully in this moment. The performance during the beginning of the season is what puts you in a position to be champions but you have ups and downs. You have opponents that, like Stoke, change their way to defend, to be more difficult for us to go through. Obviously we are very happy with the three points."

  13. Manager reaction

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes speaking to Sky Sports: "The first half was a struggle for us really, we didn't get a foothold in the game and Chelsea put us under a bit of pressure which we didn't deal with. We got back into the game with an outstanding goal by Charlie. I didn't think he was going for goal initially but once he gets in position to strike balls he has got that ability. Fair play to him for seeing the goalkeeper off his line and he despatched it, fantastic skill. It's just a shame we weren't able to capitalise on that.

"In the second half we were under great pressure and unfortunately Asmir made a bad decision and they got the second goal. We lost to a penalty and a mistake in distribution but I'm not going to criticise either of the guys. Both have stopped goals in the past and did in this game, we just have to pick ourselves up and go again."

  14. Chelsea in control

    Premier League table

Chelsea look in command at the top of the Premier League table, but there is an almighty scramble going on in the race for second.

  15. Manager reaction

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, speaking to Sky Sports about Charlie Adam's equaliser: "It was a fantastic goal, every super player in the world would like to score a goal like that. Diego Maradona, to Lionel Messi to all these brilliant players.

"Not all of them did score that goal in their careers. When my goalkeepers plays in the limit of the box he has to read the game and know the quality of the opponent, we work on that a lot.

"Charlie Adam has condition for a 50-meter shot, so normally he would anticipate the moment we lost the ball but it's a great goal."

  16. Manager reaction

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, speaking to Sky Sports: "If my medical department decides to take four weeks to recover Diego this would not happen but in football we need risks. I risk sometimes, as a manager in a result I don't like.

"We played more offensive and if the opponent scores I don't kill myself for that.

"But in all the scans they did two days ago the muscle was clear, the image was clear and the player trained twice 100%, when he did much more than he did today.

"We put him in dozens of actions and the result was correct. My medical department is fantastic so there is no problem. Next week plays Remy and Drogba, we wait for Costa again. For sure with that injury it will be a couple of weeks minimum."

  17. Costa's injury blow

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Chelsea striker Diego Costa will be out for a couple of weeks minimum, confirms manager Jose Mourinho. That means he will probably miss Manchester United's visit to Stamford Bridge on April 18.

  18. The wonder of Adam

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Jose Mourinho describes Charlie Adam's strike as a goal "every super player in the world would love to score". He's not wrong.

  19. Satisfied Jose

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is now speaking to the media. He looks fairly satisfied with things. His quotes will follow.

  20. Player reaction

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Chelsea captain John Terry, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a tough game, we knew it would be difficult. The first half was very tight, they're well organised but we ground it out. Our determination and patience was excellent today. The goal from Charlie Adam, which was a great goal, kind of stunned us, but we came out for the second half knowing what we needed to do. To pick up the momentum and get three points. We've got some big games coming up but if we keep doing that it will be very difficult for other teams.

"Eden Hazard has been our best player all year. He is the one who steps up when we need a goal and he is up there for me with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Plus he can only get better and better."

  21. In control

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

    Stats

A look at the stats above and there can be no arguments that Chelsea didn't get what they deserved. They dominated possession, had more shots and more corners. They also scored more goals.

  22. Silky Hazard

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

    Eden Hazard

Eden Hazard had a few touches didn't he (see his touch graphic above)? The Belgian had 94 touches and almost every one of them was brilliant.

  23. Post update

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Former Stoke City winger Matthew Etherington

BBC Radio Stoke at Stamford Bridge

"Stoke started the second half really well, boosted by Charlie Adam's wonder strike, but Chelsea's second goal knocked the stuffing out of them."

  24. FULL-TIME

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

A big win for Chelsea as they return to seven points clear at the top of the Premier League. Charlie Adam tried his best to spoil the Stamford Bridge mood with a wonder-strike but the Blues were simply too good.

  25. Post update

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Asmir Begovic has the ball and he launches it forward...

  26. YELLOW CARD

  30. Post update

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

A wicked cross by Marko Arnautovic from the left but Peter Crouch can't reach it for Stoke.

  31. Post update

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Keep ball from Chelsea. They don't look in danger but you still never know. The ball is deep inside Stoke's half though.

  32. Post update

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Former Stoke City winger Matthew Etherington

BBC Radio Stoke at Stamford Bridge

"Eden Hazard has been a joy to watch today. Just like Georgie Best or Stanley Matthews before him, he goes past players so easily that it just looks effortless. That is the most impressive thing."

  33. Post update

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

A throw to Stoke deep inside Chelsea's half. Marc Wilson wastes possession though as he drills the ball straight at Thibaut Courtois from 30 yards.

  34. Post update

Martin: Brian Deane nicking the ball off Bruce Grobbelaar before chipping over the defender on the line from 40 yards plus at Bramall Lane in March 1992.

Gavin, Luton: Has to be Xabi Alonso v Luton. Not the best in terms of beating the keeper, but for Steven Gerrard's reaction because he didn't pass to him!

Simon, Northampton: Jason Cundy for Spurs against Ipswich. Freak gust of wind but class goal.

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Former Stoke City winger Matthew Etherington

BBC Radio Stoke at Stamford Bridge

"The play by Eden Hazard is unbelievable. Asmir Begovic made a great first save and a second one too, but it's all come from Hazard. He's been an absolute joy to watch. Truly world class."

  37. GREAT SAVE!

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Brilliant again by Eden Hazard. He waltzes past a few Stoke players cuts the ball back and Juan Cuadrado's close-range strike is kept out by Asmir Begovic. With the Colombian pouncing on the rebound, the Bosnian again blocks. If only you hadn't gifted Chelsea their second - you could have been a hero Asmir...

  38. Post update

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Former Stoke City winger Matthew Etherington

BBC Radio Stoke at Stamford Bridge

"This game's gone into a bit of a lull, there's not much happening at either end and Chelsea have been controlling the ball in the middle of the pitch. Charlie Adam's coming off but he will sleep well tonight."

  39. Post update

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

The corner is cleared as Stoke breathe again. Can Crouchy do any damage up top?

  40. SUBSTITUTION

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Corner to Chelsea. Time to wrap up the points?

Not before Peter Crouch replaces Stephen Ireland for Stoke and Charlie Adam trudges off for Erik Pieters.

  41. Post update

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

This is far from over. Chelsea look in control but, while there is only goal between them, Stoke will still fancy it. Just give the ball to Charlie Adam...

  42. Post update

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

This match has gone a little dead. Stoke look flat, Chelsea look in second gear and all the fans probably want to get home for the final of the Voice. Still 16 minutes to go for a bit more drama though.

Michael, Ex-Bishops School captain, Newquay: In our epic Miller Shield cup run (1992), I signed off year six in style with a first-time volley from inside our own half to kick-start our victorious campaign. That proved to be the pinnacle of my football career. Take note, Mr. Adam!

Charlie Adam is booked for launching a verbal volley of abuse towards the referee's assistant. He thinks he should be given the throw. He doesn't get it.

  48. HITS THE WOODWORK

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Mark Hughes is off the bench with his head in his hands as Stoke come within a whisker of another equaliser. Steven Nzonzi advances on goal before sweeping a shot against the outside off the post from the long side of 20 yards.

  49. SUBSTITUTION

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Loic Remy looked as though he was being hooked for Didier Drogba before Diego Costa's injury. He stayed on in time to grab the lead for the Blues but has now been replaced by Juan Cuadrado.

  50. Post update

    Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City

Former Stoke City winger Matthew Etherington

BBC Radio Stoke at Stamford Bridge

"That's a really bad goal to concede. Stoke had been threatening in this game and looked like they might even go on and get a second goal, but they're their own worst enemies there, and Mark Hughes will not be happy. Eden Hazard just rolled it across to Loic Remy for the easiest of finishes."

  51. GOAL

Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City - Loic Remy

Asmir Begovic has had a mare. The Stoke goalkeeper rolls the ball into the path of Eden Hazard, who strolls towards goal, before squaring for Loic Remy to slot into the empty net. Horrible defending by Begovic.

Mark, Oxford: Saw Peter Leven score a 50-yarder for Oxford at the Kassam. As he hit it I thought 'what the hell are you doing shooting from there!?'

Russel, Torquay: My favourite long-range goal has to be Dean Saunders for Villa against Ipswich. The ball dropped over his shoulder and he launched a 45-yard half-volley that looped into the net. Came down with snow on it!

Ewan Davies, Andover: Has to be Matty Taylor for Pompey against Everton. He then did again against Sunderland.

Don't think Charlie Adam's Stoke team-mate Peter Odemwingie is the only one impressed by the Scot's wonder-strike (see 44 mins).

"Diego Costa must be carrying an injury and has tried it out, but it's made it worse by the look of it. He can hardly walk."

  58. SUBSTITUTION

    Chelsea 1-1 Stoke City

Didier Drogba comes on to replace Diego Costa in attack. Did Chelsea take a gamble by throwing Costa on at half time?

The striker has been suffering from a hamstring injury and it strikes again. That could be a massive moment in the title race. Sad scenes for Chelsea fans as Costa is helped away. He doesn't look good at all.

  59. Post update

    Chelsea 1-1 Stoke City

Bad news Chelsea. Diego Costa waves to the bench, holds his hamstring and lies down on the turf. Game over for Diego - having only come on at half time.

Chelsea passing around patiently again. No need to panic for the Blues, they have about 40 minutes left to play and surely a few more chances will fall their way. Will they take them though?

Charlie Adam's equaliser was only the seventh goal conceded in the league at home by Chelsea this season. It had to take something special.

  64. GREAT SAVE!

    Chelsea 1-1 Stoke City

Here we go again. Eden Hazard cuts inside on his right foot and fires a shot towards the top corner that is parried over by Asmir Begovic.

  65. Post update

    Chelsea 1-1 Stoke City

Former Stoke City winger Matthew Etherington

BBC Radio Stoke at Stamford Bridge

"Charlie Adam's goal (see 44 mins) is one of the most special goals we are likely to see. Charlie was 10 yards in his own half, and still beat one of the best goalkeepers in the world, at the ground of the champions elect. It's an unbelievable goal.

"Chelsea look like they've gone for it with Diego Costa coming on, but that goal might inject the confidence Stoke need."

  66. Post update

    Chelsea 1-1 Stoke City

    How's this for a stat?

Eden Hazard has scored all nine Premier League penalties he has taken; no player has taken more and never missed one.

You get the feeling Hazard won't be getting a lot of the headlines though. Unless he scores from 66 yards of course.

  67. KICK-OFF

    Chelsea 1-1 Stoke City

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has obviously seen enough as he introduces top scorer Diego Costa to the attack at the break in place of midfielder Oscar. Game on.

  68. Post update

    Chelsea 1-1 Stoke City

The teams are back out and that looks like a bit of a strut from Charlie Adam. I'm not surprised. Enjoy the moment - you will never do that again.

  69. Dominant Blues

    Chelsea 1-1 Stoke City

    Stats

Chelsea were absolutely dominant in that opening half, with 62% of possession and 12 shots to Stoke's three, but goalkeeper Asmir Begovic was not particularly tested. The Blues need to be far more clinical.

    Chelsea 1-1 Stoke City

Back to the importance of that equaliser with regards the title race though. If things stay as they are, Arsenal will only be five points off Chelsea, having played a game more. Things getting a little tense at the top?

That isn't the first time Stoke City fans have seen a goal from that distance. Wigan Maynor Figueroa scored against Stoke from inside his own half in 2009, while goalkeeper Asmir Begovic scored a wind-assisted one in 2013 against Southampton.

"As soon as Charlie Adam hit it I thought it was in - he's got that in the locker, he can hit the ball as hard as he wants. I'm trying hard to think of a better goal I've seen live and I really don't think I have. Stoke are level at half-time but they don't deserve to be if I'm honest."

  74. Post update

    Chelsea 1-1 Stoke City

Sorry to go on about Stoke's equaliser but you won't see many better.

Stamford Bridge's pitch is 110 yards long and Charlie Adam was probably 10 yards inside his own half. So that is a 65-yard strike. Sensational.

  75. HALF-TIME

    Chelsea 1-1 Stoke City

Chelsea though are looking for the lead again as they force a corner in injury time. Asmir Begovic collects and the whistle goes. Stoke will be absolutely delighted with that, Chelsea stunned.

  76. Post update

    Chelsea 1-1 Stoke City

Stamford Bridge has been stunned into silence. You don't often see Thibaut Courtois beaten by a shot from 10 yards inside the opposition's half. In fact you don't ever see that - until now. Charlie Adam will have something to tell his grandkids...

  78. GOAL

Chelsea 1-1 Stoke City - Charlie Adam

Wow. Just wow. Stoke's Charlie Adam takes a leaf out of David Beckham's book as he launches a shot from way inside his own half, over goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and into the back of the net. No fluke about that, he saw the keeper off his line and went for the lob. Stunning.

"You can't say it wasn't coming. The penalty was a soft decision for me, it looks harsh. But nine times out of ten the referee gives them. Chelsea fully deserve to be 1-0 up though. Stoke have been poor and the formation clearly isn't working."

  82. GOAL

Chelsea 1-0 Stoke City - Eden Hazard

The deadlock is broken as Eden Hazard slots the ball low into the net. Will the floodgates open?

    Eden Hazard
  83. PENALTY TO CHELSEA

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

There can be no complaints as Stoke defender Philipp Wollscheid launches into a lunging challenge onto Cesc Fabregas. The Spaniard flicks the ball away and is caught by the desperate defender. Clear pen.

  84. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

Another corner to Chelsea... but Asmir Begovic again gathers. To be fair to Stoke, while they may be treating the ball like a hot cake, they are at least staying pretty tight.

  85. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

The longer this goes on, the increasingly anxious Jose Mourinho will be getting. The Chelsea boss isn't feeling on top of the world as it is - due to the Easter lurgy - and he will know his side have to make the most of this pressure.

  87. WHAT A MISS

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

Sensational football from Chelsea as they look to pass the ball into the net. Cesar Azpilicueta, Eden Hazard and Willian combine with some lovely one-touch stuff, but Oscar side foots wide from eight yards. He should score.

  88. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

Former Stoke City winger Matthew Etherington

BBC Radio Stoke at Stamford Bridge

"Steven Nzonzi has to hit the target there for me (see 28 mins). Chelsea only had three or four players back. Stoke hit them on the break and it was a really good chance.

"Charlie Adam is blowing out of his backside, he's looked quite laboured in possession. When playing out wide you do have to do an awful lot of work. He's given the ball away a few times already so he needs to get that second wind quickly."

  89. CLOSE!

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

Lovely feet from Eden Hazard as he steps past three Stoke defenders on the edge of the penalty area before shooting low into the arms of a diving Asmir Begovic.

  90. CLOSE!

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

Better from Stoke, much better. First a dangerous cross from the left is cleared away tentatively by Chelsea and Steven Nzonzi curls a shot just over the bar from 25 yards. It was dipping all the time, but just not enough.

  91. YELLOW CARD

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

Just when Glenn Whelan thinks he has got away with that challenge on Cesc Fabregas. The ball finally goes out of play and the midfielder is booked.

  92. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

Former Stoke City winger Matthew Etherington

BBC Radio Stoke at Stamford Bridge

"Eden Hazard is starting to have more and more influence on the game now and that is very dangerous. But Stoke have done OK so far, they just need to get going further up the pitch. Chelsea haven't had too many chances and you never know, it could turn out to be Stoke's day."

  93. OUCH!

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

Cesc Fabregas perhaps isn't so happy now - after being clattered from behind by Glenn Whelan. Play is waved on but Stoke break up another Chelsea attack.

  94. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

    Fabregas

It is safe to say Cesc Fabregas is enjoying himself. As the touch graphic above shows, the Chelsea midfielder has been a busy man - already having 30 touches with about a 90 % success pass rate. It is all too easy.

Having said that Philipp Wollscheid does have a speculative strike blocked for Stoke. At last.

  95. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

Corner again to Chelsea. This is incessant, but again it comes to nothing as Loic Remy heads wide.

  96. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

A little bit longer at least as Willian's delivery from the right curls out of play. Stoke boss Mark Hughes must be worried at the way this game is shaping up.

  97. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

Another corner to Chelsea. How long can Stoke hang on?

  98. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

You know those scuff shots you do in golf? Well, Loic Remy has just done one on the pitch. The Chelsea striker advances towards goal before bobbling the ball wide from 20 yards. Blame the bobble Loic... (even though there wasn't one).

  99. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

Former Stoke City winger Matthew Etherington

BBC Radio Stoke at Stamford Bridge

"It's all too easy when Cesc Fabregas and Oscar have time on the ball to get their heads up and pick out passes. Stoke haven't started well at all. They need to get a foothold, otherwise Chelsea are going to take it away from them very quickly."

  100. Post update

    Stats

The above graphic shows Chelsea's domination early on. A massive 77.2% of possession to the Blues.

  101. GREAT SAVE!

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

This is a like a training session early on as Chelsea bamboozle Stoke with their quick passing. Loic Remy is played in by Cesc Fabregas but his low shot across goal is well stopped by Asmir Begovic. Surely the opener is only a matter of time?

    Asmir Begovic
  102. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

Chelsea are in cruise control as they knock the ball around and just prod and probe for the opportunity. Eden Hazard thinks he sees one, but his drive from 25 yards is always rising as it flies over the bar.

    Eden Hazard
  103. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

Stoke have looked to go forward twice so far and both times they have pinged the ball into the crowd. Either they know someone in that front row on the left flank or their passing radar is a little bit off.

  104. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

Former Stoke City winger Matthew Etherington

BBC Radio Stoke at Stamford Bridge

"Stoke are being quite passive in their defending and closing down at the minute, and Chelsea are having a lot of possession in the final third. You cannot give these Chelsea players time on the ball because they will just destroy you."

  105. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

The initial corner is cleared but, after a few crosses from either side of the pitch are partially headed away, Willian curls a shot just wide off the past from the left edge of the penalty area.

  106. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

Chelsea look in confident mood. Eden Hazard bursts towards Stoke's goal and has his cross cleared for a corner. Chance for an opener?

  107. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

Former Stoke City winger Matthew Etherington

BBC Radio Stoke at Stamford Bridge

"A great save by Asmir Begovic, it looked set for the top corner but he adjusted his feet really well.

"Obviously Chelsea have got quality throughout the pitch, but Eden Hazard has had such a fantastic season. He will be the one they look to to get them over the line and win this Premier League title, and he looks a certainty to be voted Players' Player of the Year."

  108. GREAT SAVE!

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke City

Chelsea fans are probably used to not kicking off at the traditional 3pm on a Saturday. Just as well, as they won't between now and the end of the season.

Chelsea start on the front foot as Loic Remy's deflected strike on the turn is clawed away by goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

    Simon Brotherton

    Match of the Day commentator

"Chelsea's performance against Hull last time out was a mixed bag, containing both brilliance and blunders, but Jose Mourinho believes it has put them in the strongest position they've enjoyed all season. Second-placed Manchester City don't play again until Monday and could be staring at a nine-point deficit with eight games to play.

"Former Chelsea player Mark Hughes looks set to guide Stoke to another top-half finish in the table, but they've lost their way a little over the last couple of games with defeats at West Brom and at home to Crystal Palace."

  117. Hughes are you?

Chelsea v Stoke City (17:30 BST)

    Chelsea

Mark Hughes should get a decent reception at Stamford Bridge - having made 95 league appearances for Chelsea between 1995-1998.

The Stoke boss won the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Cup Winners Cup with Chelsea. Not a bad haul eh?

  118. Protests of the past

Chelsea v Stoke City (17:30 BST)

    Hughes out

There can be few complaints at Stoke City this season as they look to be heading for another top-half Premier League finish.

Remember when sections of the Stoke fans were dead against Mark Hughes' appointment back in 2013? I'm presuming that sign is long gone these days.

Having said that the Potters have lost their last couple of matches at West Brom and at home to Crystal Palace and will be keen to get back on track this afternoon.

That should be a given Marc.

  120. History against Stoke

Chelsea v Stoke City (17:30 BST)

If you look at recent history, then you are going to be lumping on a Chelsea win.

Since gaining promotion to the Premier League in 2008, Stoke have played Chelsea away eight times in all competitions. and lost all eight. In fact, they haven't got a league point at Chelsea since a 1-1 draw in 1984.

"Our record there hasn't been great, but that could be said of most clubs in the Premier League recently," said Stoke boss Mark Hughes.

"I'm told that the last time we got a positive result there in the league was 1984 and my first-team coach (Eddie Niedzwiecki) was in goal for Chelsea. But we have been able to go to the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham this year and get results and our away form for the most part has been good."

  122. Wobble time for Chelsea?

Chelsea v Stoke City (17:30 BST)

So are Chelsea undergoing a little bit of a wobble?

They remain unbeaten at home but have drawn the last three games in all competitions at Stamford Bridge since finding a last-minute winner to beat Everton nearly two months ago.

Holding on to leads has been the problem and they've failed to do it in four of their last five at home against Manchester City, Burnley, PSG and Southampton.

They do have a 100% record at home to Stoke in the Premier League though. Some good news for you there Blues fans.

  123. Gunners on the march?

    Olivier Giroud

Is there a new contender in the Premier League title race? Arsenal's performance against Liverpool earlier today suggests there just might be.

The Gunners move to just four points off Chelsea, albeit having played two more matches, after demolishing Liverpool 4-1 earlier today.

A defeat for the Blues this evening and Arsenal might just start to believe.

  124. Team news

Chelsea v Stoke City (17:30 BST)

Chelsea make three changes to the side that beat Hull in their last Premier League match and the big news is that top scorer Diego Costa misses out with a hamstring injury and Loic Remy comes in up front. Cesar Azpilicueta replaces Filipe Luis at left-back and Oscar is in for Ramires.

Stoke also make three changes after losing against Crystal Palace last time out. In come Philipp Wollscheid, Glenn Whelan and Peter Crouch for Erik Pieters, Marko Arnautovic and Peter Crouch.

Chelsea XI: Courtois; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta; Matic, Fabregas; Willian, Oscar, Hazard; Remy

Stoke XI: Begovic; Cameron, Shawcross, Wollscheid, Wilson; Ireland, Whelan, Nzonzi, Adam; Walters, Diouf

Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary as Stoke visit Chelsea in the Premier League.

Neither side have been flying of late but - after a couple of weeks off due to the international break - both will be desperate to put things right.

A win today and Chelsea take another significant step towards the Premier League title. Defeat and who knows.

  126. Post update

    Chelsea

Top of the Premier League by four points, unbeaten at Stamford Bridge. It's all plain sailing for Chelsea. No?

Perhaps not. The Blues may be in the driving seat but there have been signs in recent weeks of their foot coming off the pedal.

Time to turn up the gas again?
