That is it from me for this evening though.

Thanks for your company and enjoy the rest of your evening.

Join us on Sportsday from 08:00 BST tomorrow morning.

  2. Bayern sneak through

    German Cup

There was also drama in Germany, where holders Munich beat Bayer Leverkusen 5-3 on penalties to reach the semi-finals of the German Cup.

Earlier, third division Arminia Bielefeld stunned in-form Borussia Moenchengladbach, also on penalties, after a 1-1 draw at the end of extra time.

  3. Zlatan at the treble

    French Cup

    Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Elsewhere in Europe, Zlatan Ibrahimovic scores a treble as Paris St-Germain reach the French Cup final with a 4-1 home victory over St Etienne.

  4. As you were in La Liga.

So it is as you were in the La Liga title race. Barcelona still lead by four points after wins for both Barca and Real this evening. This could become tight.

  5. FULL-TIME

    Rayo Vallecano 0-2 Real Madrid

  6. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-2 Real Madrid

What an opportunity. The ball falls to Tito 10 yards out but he can only volley wide. He has to score.

  7. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-2 Real Madrid

Rayo deserve a goal at least but it doesn't look as though they will get one as another cross is cleared by Real.

  8. GREAT SAVE!

    Rayo Vallecano 0-2 Real Madrid

Iker Casillas again frustrates the hosts as Manucho's downward header is parried away.

  9. CLOSE!

    Rayo Vallecano 0-2 Real Madrid

    Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale skips past goalkeeper David Cobeno and pulls the ball back to the waiting Cristiano Ronaldo inside the penalty area. This time though the Portuguese can only side foot at Cobeno.

  10. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-2 Real Madrid

The Rayo fans have been absolutely tremendous and still they bounce up and down and chant. They have every right to be proud of their side.

  11. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-2 Real Madrid

Rayo Vallecano are still giving this a go but the wind appears to have been taken out of their sails. Real Madrid are in control.

  12. Join the debate at #bbceurofooty

Jay: Unless Ronaldo scores two more in the next 8 minutes, we'll all know that the 8 minute hat-trick was a fluke.

  13. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-2 Real Madrid

So it looks as though Real Madrid will return to being just four points adrift of La Liga leaders Barcelona. At half time, you wouldn't have put your money on it.

  14. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-2 Real Madrid

Finally Real Madrid are enjoying themselves. You get the feeling there could be a few more goals on the cards as Toni Kroos fires over from 30 yards.

Poor Rayo Vallecano, they don't deserve this.

  15. GOAL

Rayo Vallecano 0-2 Real Madrid - James Rodriguez (74 mins)

    James Rodriguez

Game over now surely? James Rodriguez shows his class as he curls the ball into the bottom corner with his left foot.

  16. Deportivo sack boss

    Victor Fernandez

Some breaking news from La Liga as Deportivo La Coruna, who are two points outside the relegation zone, have sacked Victor Fernandez as boss.

They lost 2-1 to Getafe at the weekend.

Fernandez was only appointed in the summer.

  17. GREAT SAVE!

    Rayo Vallecano 0-1 Real Madrid

Great response from Rayo as Nacho has a stinging 20-yard drive parried away by goalkeeper Iker Casillas. Don't write the hosts off yet.

  18. GOAL

Rayo Vallecano 0-1 Real Madrid - Cristiano Ronaldo (68 mins)

    Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale

Yes they will and who else but Cristiano Ronaldo?

The Portuguese has the simple task of heading home from close range after Dani Carvajal brilliantly advances down the right and crosses. A huge goal in the La Liga title race.

  19. CLOSE!

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

Hit the target Real. James Rodriguez fires powerfully over from the edge of the penalty area as the clock continues to tick down. Will the visitors get that all-important breakthrough?

  20. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

Left winger Adri Embarba was a constant threat in the opening half for Rayo Vallecano but he has been quieter this half.

He does cut in and shoot straight at goalkeeper Iker Casillas though.

  21. Join the debate at #bbceurofooty

    Cristiano Ronaldo

Matt Love: At least we know it's not just the premier league where ref's make horrendous decisions!

    Nahum Goulding: Worst decision ever.

Andrew Smith: What a disgraceful decision from the ref, as obvious a penalty as you will see all season.

Cristiano Ronaldo still looks annoyed (see 50 mins)

  22. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

Real Madrid have only won two of their last five La Liga matches and you can see why. They look disjointed.

Cristiano Ronaldo sends a speculative volley wildly over from 20 yards.

  23. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

    Roberto Trashorras

You have to admire Vallecano's bravery. The hosts keep playing football from the back and getting away with it. Bold stuff.

  24. CLOSE!

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

Real are growing in confidence. Gareth Bale cuts inside and shoots just wide from the right. The Rayo fans are a tad bit quieter now.

  25. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

This is anyone's match at the moment. It is incessant attacking from both sides - and Real again go close.

Marcelo lets loose with a screamer from 25 yards but it is inches wide.

  26. CLOSE!

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

Real are looking more of an attacking threat as this match swings from end to end. Karim Benzema drags a shot wide of goal after racing clear. He should do better.

  27. YELLOW CARD

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

    Cristiano Ronaldo
    Cristiano Ronaldo fouled

Referee - you have had an absolute howler.

Cristiano Ronaldo is clearly taken down by Antonio Amaya's sliding tackle inside the penalty area. The Portuguese has no chance of keeping his feet as the whistle goes. Penalty surely?

No. Ronaldo is booked for diving. Real are furious.

  28. CLOSE!

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

    James Rodriguez

Out of nothing, Real are almost ahead. James Rodriguez crosses in from the left and Gareth Bale's diving header is just wide of the far post.

  29. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

Here we go again. It is the hosts who start the quicker as Gael Kakuta is just unable to get his head to Tito's cross from the left.

  30. KICK-OFF

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

Can Rayo repeat their first-half dominance? You'd have to think not. Game on.

  31. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

    Karim Benzema

Many of Real's attacking stars have been virtually invisible so far. They need to step up to the plate in the second 45 minutes.

  32. Match stats

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

Rayo Vallecano attempted 11 shots, more than they have managed in any other first half in La Liga this season.

  33. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

    Cristiano Ronaldo

    Wakey, wakey Real Madrid.

Barcelona moved seven points clear at the top of La Liga earlier this evening with a 4-0 win at home to Almeria and, so far, Real are not responding.

    They need to.

  34. HALF-TIME

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

  35. GREAT SAVE!

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

Real Madrid will be delighted to get in at the break still level. They aren't there yet though as Rayo come forward again...

And that is so close to the opener. A delicious cross from the right by Tito is met by Roberto Trashorras at the far post but his header is beaten away by Iker Casillas.

  36. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

A dangerous position for Real Madrid as Marcelo and Raphael Varane stand over a free-kick 45 yards out. It is beautifully whipped in by the latter but Cristiano Ronaldo heads over the bar. Their best effort of the match - and it wasn't really close.

  37. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

A slight lull in proceedings as the hosts get their breath. They have been superb in this opening 38 minutes though.

  38. Join the debate at #bbceurofooty

John McEnerney: RM need some big performances or they'll end up with nowt! Flatlined after Xmas after being "Winter Champs".

  39. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

And that is so close to the opener as the left-wing corner is swung in and Manucho deflects the ball towards goal only to see it blocked by a grateful Iker Casillas. No one could have expected the hosts to be enjoying this type of dominance.

  40. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

A fifth corner of the half for the hosts. The crowd are willing it in...

  41. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo bursts down the right but Nacho recovers well to get his body between the Portuguese and the goal and shield it out for a goal kick. No fear being shown at the moment.

  42. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

    Real Madrid

Sixty one percent possession for the hosts so far. They are first to the tackle, more creative and better all over the pitch. Real need to get a grip of this.

  43. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

Vallecano are still enjoying more of the ball as they look for a fifth win in six games. The circa 15,000 packed into the stadium are noisy - very noisy.

  44. DISALLOWED GOAL

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

So close to an opener. Gareth Bale races into space and volleys home brilliantly from 20 yards only to see the flag raised for offside. It was the right decision as well - just. Real Madrid finally starting to get a bit of control.

  45. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

No. A breather for Real Madrid as the ball drifts out for a goal kick. Real look a little stunned by the intensity of their hosts' start.

  46. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

Vallecano force another corner. Can they break the deadlock?

  47. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

While Real Madrid have been stuttering of late, Rayo have been on fire and - with four wins in their last five matches - you can see the hosts really fancy themselves. Nothing cautious about their start.

  48. CLOSE!

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

    Real Madrid

This is a real atmosphere at Vallecano's Campo de Futbol - worthy of this Madrid derby.

Alberto Bueno goes close to a home opener, his low shot being shovelled wide by goalkeeper Iker Casillas. Real Madrid are being tested at the moment.

  49. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

That should be a Real Madrid opener though. Luka Modric is sent through down the right but his pull back is blasted straight at goalkeeper David Cobeno by James Rodriguez. He should do better.

  50. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

Here is a man you may remember. Chelsea loanee Gael Kakuta works his way down the right but shoots wide of goal.

This is a really energetic start from the hosts and their fans are right up for it.

  51. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

Almost the opener from Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo as he volleys a shot inches wide of the far post. Ronaldo is hot at the moment after his five-goal salvo at the weekend.

  52. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

The Rayo Vallecano pitch doesn't look the best. There are patches all over it. Perhaps the pitch will be a leveller. Former Real Madrid striker Alberto Bueno has looked lively for the hosts in the opening minutes.

  53. Post update

    Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid

Rayo Vallecano have started strongly as they pile forward. Real Madrid could have a game on their hands.

  54. Post update

Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid (21:00 BST)

    Cristiano Ronaldo

    What can he do tonight?

Barcelona go seven points clear. Can Real Madrid react against Rayo Vallecano? We are about to find out.

  59. GOAL

Barcelona 4-0 Almeria - Luis Suarez (90+2 mins)

It is all too easy as Barca break, Pedro squares and Luis Suarez grabs his second from close range.

  60. DISALLOWED GOAL

    Barcelona 3-0 Almeria

Have a heart referee. Jimenez Ortiz scores the best goal of the match as his overhead kick flies into the back of the net but the linesman's flag is up. He deserves better. That was absolutely brilliant.

  61. GREAT SAVE!

    Barcelona 3-0 Almeria

Lionel Messi takes a few steps back, sets his sights, but his curler is parried over by a busy Julian Cuesta. What a player Leo is.

  62. Post update

    Barcelona 3-0 Almeria

Can Almeria get a consolation? They have valiantly kept plugging away but goalkeeper Claudio Bravo hasn't been tested.

A tight call for the referee as Lionel Messi skips past Jose Manuel Casado. The Almeria defender trips him on the edge of the penalty area but a free-kick is given, not a penalty. It is probably the right call.

  63. Post update

    Barcelona 3-0 Almeria

Real Madrid would not have expected anything else but a Barca win this evening. They have a tougher task at Rayo Vallecano later. For the moment, the hosts will move seven points clear.

It is almost four as Lionel Messi's 25-yard free-kick takes a wicked deflection off the wall but bounces into Julian Cuesta's hands.

  64. Post update

    Barcelona 3-0 Almeria

Marc Bartra's header is Barcelona's 84th league goal in 30 games this season. They are almost averaging three goals a game. Incredible stuff.

  65. DISALLOWED GOAL

    Barcelona 3-0 Almeria

Lionel Messi isn't happy as his strike is disallowed for a foul. It seems very soft as an Almeria defender goes down very easily before Messi slots under goalkeeper Julian Cuesta.

  66. Post update

    Barcelona 3-0 Almeria

    Luis Suarez

You can't help feeling a bit for Almeria. They are getting torn apart by a Barcelona side in fifth gear.

  67. GOAL

Barcelona 3-0 Almeria - Marc Bartra (75 mins)

    Marc Bartra

What did I say? That was so, so simple. Xavi swings the corner in from the right and an unmarked Marc Bartra attacks the ball to head home from close range. Easy.

  68. Post update

    Barcelona 2-0 Almeria

Both teams look as though they want the final whistle to go. Barca have the game won and this is now a training session.

The hosts still look as though they have another goal in them though...

  69. Team news

Rayo Vallecano v Real Madrid (21:00 BST)

Don't forget Real Madrid's trip to Rayo Vallecano follows straight after this and here is the European champions' team. Gareth Bale starts.

  70. Post update

    Barcelona 2-0 Almeria

  74. Post update

    Barcelona 2-0 Almeria

Here come the changes as Dani Alves is replaced by Martin Montoya at right-back. Barca have bigger tests ahead - and doesn't Luis Enrique know it...

  75. Post update

    Barcelona 2-0 Almeria

Exquisite stuff from Lionel Messi again as he beats three or four Almeria defenders around the edge of the penalty area before dinking a lovely pass out to the unmarked Luis Suarez. The striker can't match Leo's brilliance though as he crosses to no one.

  76. CLOSE!

    Barcelona 2-0 Almeria

Barcelona will expect to score more goals now. The game is surely won, but how many can they get?

Ivan Rakitic strikes a volley sweetly on the edge of the penalty area but goalkeeper Julian Cuesta holds on low to his left.

  77. GOAL

Barcelona 2-0 Almeria - Luis Suarez (55 mins)

    Luis Suarez

No is the answer. Luis Enrique punches the air as Luis Suarez finally finds the target - and how.

The Uruguayan picks the ball up on the right, brings the ball inside and his left, and rifles the ball into the top corner. A fantastic finish.

  78. Post update

    Barcelona 1-0 Almeria

Sergi will be delighted with his Almeria side. They are fighting for every ball and are actually looking fairly solid. Can they keep it up?

  79. Post update

    Barcelona 1-0 Almeria

    Eric Abidal

Pedro is sent sprawling by Almeria goalkeeper Julian Cuesta but the Barcelona man only has himself to blame. The ball is whipped in from the right by Lionel Messi but Pedro isn't brave enough, pulls out, and Cuesta flattens him.

At the other end, Wellington Silva fires well over.

  80. CLOSE!

    Barcelona 1-0 Almeria

Luis Suarez almost gets on the end of Xavi's corner as well but Almeria touch the ball away for another corner.

The pressure is eased as Adriano curls straight at goalkeeper Julian Cuesta from 20 yards in the next attack.

  81. Post update

    Barcelona 1-0 Almeria

Luis Suarez is caught marginally offside as he races through on goal. It has been a frustrating night for the former Liverpool man so far.

Must do better. The teams are out.

  85. Post update

    Barcelona 1-0 Almeria

    Will get get the opportunity?

  86. Post update

Barcelona 1-0 Almeria - Lionel Messi (33 mins)

    Lionel Messi celebrates scoring

Pick that out. It has taken 33 minutes but a moment of brilliance from Lionel Messi gives Barcelona the lead.

The Argentine advances down the right, cuts inside Edgar Mendez and curls the ball from the edge of the penalty area into the far corner. His 33rd league goal.

  95. Post update

    Barcelona 0-0 Almeria

Another chance goes begging for Barca as Xavi controls before shooting straight at goalkeeper Julian Cueta from 10 yards. Into the last 15 minutes of the first half and Almeria are still level...

  99. Post update

    Lionel Messi

Neat move from Barcelona and surprise, surprise, Lionel Messi is at the heart of it.

The Argentine swings a scrumptious ball from right to left but Pedro's first-time volley flies across goal.

  101. CLOSE!

    Barcelona 0-0 Almeria

A first touch for Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo as he smothers the ball before Edgar Mendez.

Wait a minute, Almeria have another attack and that is inches away from a shock opener.

Arsenal loanee Wellington drills a shot across goal and it is deflected just wide. Close.

  102. CLOSE!

    Barcelona 0-0 Almeria

Another attack, another chance. Dani Alves fires a cross from the right to the edge of the penalty area but Lionel Messi can only head straight at goalkeeper Julian Cuesta.

Seconds later Luis Suarez races through on goal but his shot is blocked.

  103. Post update

    Barcelona 0-0 Almeria

  109. KICK-OFF

    Barcelona 0-0 Almeria

Barcelona have won all five league meetings with Almeria at the Camp Nou, scoring 15 and conceding just two.

There is always a first time .....

  111. Team news - Neymar on bench

    Barcelona v Almeria (19:00 BST)

    Neymar

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique says he is not worried about a lack of goals from striker Neymar - that hasn't stopped him from dropping the Brazilian to the bench though.

The Brazilian scored the most recent of his 17 league goals this season for the La Liga leaders in their 5-0 win over Levante on 15 February.

Barcelona: Bravo; Alves, Bartra, Mascherano, Adriano, Sergi Roberto, Xavi, Rakitic, Pedro, Messi, Suarez.

Almeria: Julian; Casado, Trujillo, Ximo, A. Marin; Corona, Thomas, Wellington Silva, Edgar, Espinosa y Thievy.

Barcelona didn't have things all their own way in Sunday's tense 1-0 win at Celta Vigo.

It took 73 minutes for the breakthrough - Jeremy Mathieu scoring the only goal with a back-post diving header from Xavi's free-kick.

Celta had Fabian Orellana sent off for throwing some grass at Sergio Busquets as he was getting ready to take a free-kick.

Surely there are better ways to earn a red than that? If you can think of any other bizarre reasons for being sent off let me know. Tweet #bbceurofooty, text 81111 (UK users only) or post on BBC Sport Facebook.

  115. Sergi's Barca return

    Barcelona v Almeria (19:00 BST)

    Sergi

Sergi's appointment as Almeria boss this week has certainly added a bit of spice to what should be a comfortable Barcelona win.

The former Barcelona left back, who was in charge at Recreativo Huelva last season, is Almeria's third coach this term and has signed a contract until the end of the campaign.

He replaces Juan Ignacio Martinez, after sacked after Saturday's 4-1 home defeat by Levante left the Andalucian club in the drop zone.

    Almeria need the points.

  116. Race for the title

    La Liga

So what's what in La Liga?

Barcelona are leading the charge - four points ahead of Real - while defending champions Atletico are two points further back.

    Surely a two-horse race?

  117. Double header

Good evening and welcome to a Spanish double header.

Barcelona entertain relegation-threatened Almeria at an expectant Nou Camp, before the table toppers's closest challengers, and bitterest rivals, Real Madrid travel to Rayo Vallecano.

Wall-to-wall La Liga football for what could be another big night in deciding the destination of the title.

Real Madrid have hit form, beating Granada 9-1 on Saturday, but first it is all about Barcelona. Enjoy.

  118. Call that a crisis?

Remember when David Moyes' Real Sociead beat Barcelona in January?

Barcelona were in crisis, Luis Enrique was under pressure, Lionel Messi was misfiring - the knives were out for the Catalans.

What a response. Barca have won their last eight matches in all competitions and, going back even further, have enjoyed 19 wins in their last 20 matches.

    Unstoppable? We will see.

  119. Friends reunited

    Sergi

He made more than 250 Barcelona appearances, won three La Liga titles and lifted the European Cup Winners Cup with the Catalan giants.

Tonight though, there will be no room for sentiment as Barca legend Sergi looks to put a dent in his former love's title charge.

    Can anyone stop them?
