  1. Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

So honours even on Mauricio Pochettino's big day - a slow start turned into a decent game in the end. There is still plenty of Premier League action to come, though. You can follow it all here.

  2. Text us on 81111

Ed in Brixton: I'm a Spurs fan but 5th is a poisoned chalice. I'd prefer 6th and no Europa league so we can challenge for top four without distraction.

  3. Post update

    Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

    Steve Claridge

Former Leicester striker on BBC Radio 5 live

"Nothing between them in the league, nothing between them on the day. Southampton may have edged it, but I'm not sure they did enough to win it. It probably makes Tottenham favourites now to get that Europa League spot."

    Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

  5. Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

The free-kick is cleared behind but Saints almost finish with a flourish when Jose Fonte heads wide. That's the last action of the game.

  6. Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

Saints have a free-kick this time, with one minute of injury time to go. Federico Fazio is booked for fouling Shane Long near the left-hand corner of the area. This is a chance, especially with Graziano Pelle in the box.

  7. Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

I thought Graziano Pelle would be the target but instead Eljero Elia finds Toby Alderweireld. He diverts the ball goalwards but it is straight at Hugo Lloris.

  8. Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

Saints win a corner. Four minutes of stoppage time to go.

  9. Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

Tottenham start off stoppage time with a free-kick. Christian Eriksen floats it into the area, aimed for Federico Fazio, but Saints clear.

    Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

There will be SEVEN MINUTES of added time at St Mary's.

  11. Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

There will definitely be a decent chunk of injury time because Morgan Schneiderlin is down and getting treatment. I don't think he can continue - Harrison Reed is going to replace him for Southampton.

While we wait for the change, the camera pans to Tottenham defender Ben Davies, who is back on their bench sporting a sling after his injury a few minutes ago. He doesn't look particularly happy, but at least he is no longer in pain.

  12. Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

There is no final ball from Tottenham at the moment, though. The visitors are making another change, with Roberto Soldado on for Nabil Bentaleb. About two minutes of the 90 left to play.

  13. Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

Better from Spurs - they are enjoying a prolonged spell of possession in the Saints half.

  14. Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

Mauricio Pochettino makes another change - Mousa Dembele is on for Nacer Chadli. Spurs have not threatened for a while, but both of their goals came out of nothing so maybe this is when they are at their most dangerous?

  15. Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

Sadio Mane has been a livewire up front for Southampton all game and this time he wins a free-kick from Nabil Bentaleb in a dangerous position on the edge of the area.

Graziano Pelle gets on the end of the cross at the back post when Toby Alderweireld sends the ball in, but this time his header is blocked. No hat-trick for him - not yet, anyway.

    Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

Saints make a change - and it is an attacking one. Eljero Elia replaces Steven Davis.

  17. Join the debate at #bbcfootball

Mark Stoney: Jose Fonte is playing so well this season that Liverpool will probably buy Yoshida over the summer.

Peter Collins: Spurs are so lucky Forster is injured. He'd have kept both goals out!

  18. Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

There are 12 minutes of the 90 to go at St Mary's, but that Ben Davies injury means there should also be a sizable amount of injury time for someone to get a winner.

    Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

Ben Davies has been receiving treatment, and taking oxygen, on the pitch for some time but is now being stretchered off. The way his arm is being held by a medic does not bode well. Vlad Chiriches is on instead and play resumes.

  20. Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

That goal has set us up for a big finish at St Mary's but it does not look like it will include Ben Davies. The Tottenham defender slips and falls awkwardly as he chases a ball into his own area and it looks he has suffered a shoulder injury, potentially a serious one.

  21. Post update

    Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

    Steve Claridge

Former Leicester striker on BBC Radio 5 live

"That pure strength gives him that extra time. He plays it across the keeper and it's an unerring finish, it's a wonderful bit of play by Nacer Chadli."

Nacer Chadli celebrates his goal against Southampton
  22. GOAL

    Southampton 2-2 Tottenham (Nacer Chadli)

Well, Spurs didn't need 20 minutes, did they? They are level again, after Nacer Chadli holds off Maya Yoshida's challenge on the right of the area and slots the ball low into the opposite corner of the net. A fine finish.

Nacer Chadli scores Tottenham's equalising goal
  23. Southampton 2-1 Tottenham

The Saints fans are the ones making all the noise again, "There's only one Ronald Koeman" has had a few airings today.

Spurs have got about 20 minutes left to find an equaliser and silence them.

  24. Post update

    Southampton 2-1 Tottenham

    Steve Claridge

Former Leicester striker on BBC Radio 5 live

"Graziano Pelle is a magnificent creature. It's a wonderful header. He's got an awful lot to do with it. Bang! He sticks it right in the far post."

  25. GOAL

Southampton 2-1 Tottenham - Graziano Pelle (65 mins)

What a header this is. A classic centre-forward finish.

Shane Long makes an instant impact, sending in a perfectly-flighted cross from the right and Graziano Pelle is in the right place to plant the ball past the helpless Hugo Lloris. Saints are back in front

Graziano Pelle scores Southampton's second goal

    Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

A change for Saints. Shane Long is coming on to replace James Ward-Prowse. He has around half an hour to have an impact.

  27. Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

This game has opened up a bit all of a sudden, and it is Tottenham's time to threaten, again via a deflected cross when Nacer Chadli's delivery hits a Saints shin and loops just wide.

From the resulting corner, Chadli tries to get on the end of the delivery but Southampton clear their lines.

  28. Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

This is certainly Southampton's favourite time to strike - they would be second in the table behind Chelsea if only second halves counted in the Premier League this season.

    1. Chelsea 62 pts

    2. Southampton 58 pts

    3. Man Utd 58 pts

  29. Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

Saints go closer this time, when Ryan Bertrands cross nicks off Eric Dier and is about to flash under the crossbar until Hugo Lloris gets across to scoop it to safety.

  30. Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

Oh dear. Poor Steven Davis is still shooting, and still off target for Southampton. After a neat build-up, Graziano Pelle backheels it into his path inside the box - Davis goes for the top corner but finds the stand behind the goal instead.

  31. Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

BBC Sport's Nabil Hassan at St Mary's: "A big 45 minutes coming up for both these sides in the battle to secure European football next season. A decisive goal would see Saints fall four points behind Spurs with just four games remaining. Sadio Mane continues to worry the Spurs defence. He looks to be Saints biggest threat here."

  32. Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

It's fair to say Steven Davis is not wearing his shooting boots today. For the second time in the game the ball falls nicely for him on the edge of the box but, for the second time in the game, he can only send a scuffed shot trundling well wide. That was a real waste - no wonder the Saints midfielder hasn't scored for 14 months.

  33. Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

Spurs are seeing more of the ball but, as for most of the first half, they are not doing much with it. Ben Davies goes to ground after darting into the area but that was never a penalty in a million years.

  34. KICK-OFF

    Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

Spurs get the second half started.

  35. Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

You can criticise Christian Eriksen's passing in that first half - his accuracy of 68% was the lowest of any Spurs player - but you cannot fault his workrate.

The Dane covered 6.5km in the first 45 minutes - only Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin (6.57km) did more running.

  36. Join the debate at #bbcfootball

BBC Sports Olly Foster: We've already seen the Rabona from Erik Lamela this season. He calls that one the Diego. #COYS

Chelsea Warrior: Pelle's push on Ben Davies balanced by Lamela's handball. It's been that kind of game

Cameron Laws: Might have been a handball but certainly wasn't deliberate. Whether you think it's right or not, That's the rule

  37. Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

    Tottenham goalscorer Erik Lamela

Here's Tottenham's Erik Lamela, appropriately celebrating his goal with both arms outstretched. That's not how he scored it by the way.

  38. Text us on 81111

Jacob in Barnet: Abysmal defending by Tottenham, thank god for Kane because Tottenham's defence is like an average championship team!

Paul F in London: Fairly clear from the play, and atmosphere, that both sides have little interest in qualifying for the Europa. And understandably so.

Dan in Brentwood: I'm not surprised by Eriksen's passing stats, his passing in general since January has been sloppy and far from characteristic.

  39. Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

    Steve Claridge

Former Leicester striker om BBC Radio 5 live

On Tottenham's equaliser: "Eric Dier's put the ball in and Harry Kane's flicked it on - it's like a pebble skipping across the water. Erik Lamela deserved the goal because he's willing to make the run into the box. But I'm not sure he knows a lot about that finish."

  40. Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

    Erik Lamela
  41. Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

BBC Sport's Nabil Hassan at St Mary's: "Tottenham's equaliser stunned St Mary's into silence but on the touchline Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino barely raised a smile."

Jay: It's a good thing Lamela didn't know anything about it otherwise it wouldn't have gone in the net.

    Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

  44. Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

Replays of that Erik Lamela goal suggest he got very lucky. The ball hit him on the arm and flew into the net. Saints will be aggrieved but Spurs won't care - they will be level at the break.

  45. GOAL

Southampton 1-1 Tottenham - Erik Lamela (43 mins)

Tottenham had just started to up the tempo a bit, and they are level. Their goal is made by an Eric and finished by an Erik - Eric Dier's cross from the right is flicked on by Harry Kane and is met by Erik Lamela, who gets enough on his header to squeeze the ball home via the post.

  46. Southampton 1-0 Tottenham

Tottenham shots have been few and far between so I'd better tell you about this one. Ryan Mason's volley is blocked on the edge of the box but it looked like it was on target. That has to go down as their best effort of the first-half, even if there has not been much competition.

  47. Post update

    Southampton 1-0 Tottenham

    Steve Claridge

Former Leicester striker on BBC Radio 5 live

"Southampton have looked solid defensively - they haven't been played through. Spurs are running out of ideas. It's often a long punt to try and get Harry Kane in over the top.

"I'm looking at Nacer Chadli. He'd be one in the Spurs team you would have a question mark over. How much does he care? Does it matter to him?"

  48. Southampton 1-0 Tottenham

Another Saints chance. Ryan Bertrand is the man behind it again, and this time his cross from the right finds Steven Davis in space on the edge of the area. Davis has time to take a touch but goes for a first-time shot that trickles tamely wide.

  49. Southampton 1-0 Tottenham

    Graziano Pelle
  50. Join the debate at #bbcfootball

    On Southampton's goal

Chris Baldwin: To say that defending was Sunday league is disrespectful to Sunday league. 3 chances to clear. Comedy from Spurs there

Gambeano Snitch: Young footballers need to be shown a video of that saints goal to demonstrate everything you shouldn't do when defending

Girl: The Southampton goal was hilarious. It was like watching Laurel and Hardy the way Tottenham defended!

  51. Southampton 1-0 Tottenham

After 35 minutes, Tottenham have finally had their first strike at goal... but it wasn't worth the wait.

Nacer Chadli looks up, 25 yards from goal, and blasts his shot about the same distance over the bar.

  52. Southampton 1-0 Tottenham

Saints fans have - predictably - been giving Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino some stick since their team took the lead.

As things stand, Southampton are above Tottenham in the table, and up to fifth place.

    Southampton 1-0 Tottenham

We've had our first shot, and our first goal. Here's our first booking too - Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen goes into Jon Moss's book for a late lunge on Saints goalscorer Graziano Pelle.

  54. Post update

    Southampton 1-0 Tottenham

    Steve Claridge

Former Leicester striker on BBC Radio 5 live

"Ben Davies tries to fend Graziano Pelle off but us caught one side of the ball, stumbles, and lets Pelle come in. Spurs had five players back against one - it's a really poor goal to give up. I think Southampton have just about deserved it."

  55. GOAL

Southampton 1-0 Tottenham - Graziano Pelle (29 mins)

What a mess this is from Tottenham's point of view.

Spurs think they have cleared after Sadio Mane's break, but Ryan Mason slips and the ball is played back into the Tottenham area. Again, Ben Davies looks favourite to clear but Graziano Pelle wins the race and prods the ball past Hugo Lloris - who is probably wondering what the heck just happend in front of him.

    Pelle scores for Southampton

  56. Post update

    Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

    Steve Claridge

Former Leicester striker on BBC Radio 5 live

"Both teams will think they're doing OK and have a got themselves a nice foothold on the game. It's nice and tight, so both teams will think they're in it."

  57. Text us on 81111

Hannah in London: Let's be honest, us Saints fans would have laughed you out the ground if you'd have said this would be 5th v 6th at the start of the season. Ronald Koeman deserves every bit of RK Day even if it is just to spite Pochettino.

  58. Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

That Morgan Schneiderlin shot came during Saints' best spell of the game so far, but at the same time Tottenham also looked dangerous on the break. Spurs are still yet to test veteran Southampton keeper Kelvin Davis, though.

    Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

We've finally had a shot! And a good save too...

A Saints corner is not properly cleared and Morgan Schneiderlin, whom Spurs tried to sign last summer, lets fly with a low shot that Hugo Lloris does well to keep out with a diving save to his left.

  60. Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

    Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen

Tottenham schemer Christian Eriksen is not having one of his better days so far - his passing accuracy is only 57.1% in the Southampton half, and his attempts to find a team-mate with flicks into the area have all failed to come off.

  61. Text us on 81111

Mark in Newcastle: Just wondering if Southampton are having a boycott today like us last week?

  62. Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

Southampton's best attacking outlet seems to be Ryan Bertrand down their right. He gets forward again and fizzes a low cross across the face of goal... but there is nobody there to get on the end of it.

That pretty much sums up the game so far really - after 20 minutes we are yet to have a shot at goal by either side.

  63. Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

Tottenham have had more than 61% of the ball in the first 15 minutes but Saints are keeping them at arms' length at the edge of their area.

Harry Kane tries to work some magic to find a way through but Nathaniel Clyne is there to stop him. Clyne's tackle concedes a corner but, again, Saints clear their lines easily.

  64. Join the debate at #bbcfootball

Mike Hutchinson: Proof that you can have a perfectly-observed minute's silence. Well done Saints and Spurs fans COYS

  65. Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

Saints' first attack and at first glance it is a decent chance that goes begging.

Ryan Bertrand's whipped cross looks like it should find Graziano Pelle in miles of space in the area. Pelle doesn't reach it, though, or even really try, and there is an obvious reason why - replays show he was also miles offside and the flag would surely have gone up if he had touched the ball.

  66. Join the debate at #bbcfootball

  67. Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

Another neat Spurs build-up comes to nothing when Eric Dier bends a cross in from the right that is far too close to Saints keeper Kelvin Davis.

  68. Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

Spurs are having the better of the early possession but there is not much in it and their latest attack ends when Harry Kane pushes over Jose Fonte on the edge of the area. That's a Saints free-kick.

  69. Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

Our first anti-Pochettino chant of the day from the home fans is followed by our first pro-Pochettino song by the away supporters.

On the pitch, Saints gave away a soft corner, but easily cleared it.

  70. Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

Scrappy stuff so far, with both sides getting stuck in in midfield. I think we can expect a lot more of that today - these two teams lead the way in terms of top-flight tackles this season, making an average of 22 per game.

  71. Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

BBC Sport's Nabil Hassan at St Mary's: "If Mauricio Pochettino was expecting a hostile reception on his return to St Mary's he didn't get one other than the odd jeer here and there. Game under way as the sun breaks out here at St Mary's."

  72. KICK-OFF

Southampton get us under way, to a loud chorus of "When the Saints".

  73. Post update

There will be a minute's silence before kick-off to mark the 30th anniversary of the Bradford fire.

  74. Post update

The players emerge at a sporadically sunny St Mary's.

"There's only one Ronald Koeman" is the chant as Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino follows them out of the tunnel.

    Ronald Koeman greets Mauricio Pochettino
  75. Post update

Around five minutes until we get started and the players are in the tunnel at St Mary's - Saints are in their traditional red-and-white stripes, Spurs in their fetching all-yellow away kit.

  76. When Nigel Quashie made the difference...

Speaking of form, Tottenham have won their last five Premier League games against Southampton, and it is 10 years since Saints beat Spurs - when Nigel Quashie scored the winner.

Maybe that's not such a happy memory for Saints fans to be honest. After that victory they only won two of their 10 remaining games that season, and finished bottom of the table.

If, like I was, you are left wondering what happened to Nigel Quashie, I have the answer - the former Scotland midfielder is player/assistant manager of snappily-named Iceland side BI/Bolungarvik.

  77. The fight for Europe

    Simon Brotherton

    Match of the Day commentator

"The pressure's on to finish at least fifth and this game should be fiercely competitive.

"Spurs have an excellent away record with only Chelsea and Arsenal having won more than their eight games on the road.

"In contrast, Southampton have the meanest defence in the Premier League and have only conceded 24 times all season. They've also won their last three at home while keeping three clean sheets in the process."

  78. Post update

Spurs are not doing too shabbily either, of course, and are currently a point and a place above Saints. it means today's game is very much a battle for Europa League football next season - assuming anybody wants that?

  79. Saints on the up?

So, how much have Southampton missed Pochettino? Um, not an awful lot at first glance.

The Argentine did brilliantly to guide Saints to eighth place last season, equalling their best finish in the Premier League era. But under Ronald Koeman's guidance they are a shoe-in to finish at least seventh, and a win today would put them fifth - until Liverpool play West Brom later anyway.

Even a draw would set a new club record for Premier League points, and move Southampton closer to the 60-point mark that they have not reached in the top flight for 30 years.

  80. Join the debate at #bbcfootball

Will, Berlin: "I look at that Spurs line up and I see a spine of quality - Lloris, Vertongen, Eriksen and Kane - surrounded by averageness. If we have another summer where we sell off half of the squad who never even made the team, plus accept profit-winning bids for one of our stars (Lloris or Eriksen maybe this year??) followed by random purchases of unproven Premier League quality I think I'll blow my footballing brains out! It's not rocket science Mr Levy, sell the rest not the best!

  81. "I will always love Southampton"

How is Mauricio Pochettino feeling so far? He was interviewed just after he walked into the ground and maybe those hugs and handshakes he received from the Saints staff have struck a chord.

"There is a lot of emotion," Pochettino said.

"I still love Southampton, I will always love Southampton. It is difficult the first time to come back."

  82. Southampton v Tottenham (12:45 BST)

BBC Sport's Nabil Hassan at St Mary's: "Southampton make one change with James Ward-Prowse coming in for Dusan Tadic in midfield. Defender Toby Alderweireld has passed a fitness test on his shoulder and keeps his place despite being stretchered off last weekend.

"Tottenham make three changes. Keeper Hugo Lloris is passed fit, defender Ben Davies starts in place of Danny Rose while Paulinho's wife is expecting a baby so Ryan Mason plays in midfield."

Southampton XI: Kelvin Davis, Clyne, Fonte, Yoshida, Bertrand, Schneiderlin, Alderweireld, Ward-Prowse, Mane, Steven Davis, Pelle. Subs: Gardos, Long, Tadic, Elia, Gazzaniga, Reed, Targett.

Tottenham Hotspur XI: Lloris, Dier, Fazio, Vertonghen, Davies, Mason, Bentaleb, Lamela, Eriksen, Chadli, Kane. Subs: Chiriches, Soldado, Yedlin, Vorm, Townsend, Dembele, Stambouli.

  83. But who does the day belong to?

    Southampton fans

Angry fans are not something Pochettino's successor Ronald Koeman has to worry about today.

Saints supporters are planning to celebrate his successful first season in charge by wearing orange in honour of the former Dutch international. Some fans have even flown in from the Netherlands to pay their tribute.

  84. Hugs and handshakes for Pochettino

Yep, the build-up to this game has been dominated by talk of the welcome - friendly or otherwise - that Mauricio Pochettino will get at St Mary's.

Judging from the TV pictures I saw earlier of the warm hugs and handshakes he exchanged with Southampton's staff when he arrived at the stadium, he is still well liked inside his former club. How will the Saints fans greet him, though?

  85. A happy return?

    Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino

"I don't want to be popular," said Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino this week when he was asked if he was worried about the reception he might get on his first return to St Mary's since his acrimonious departure for White Hart Lane last summer.

It's probably just as well, Mauricio...
