  1. Goodbye

    United players

Unlike Nacho Monreal, unfortunately we can't run all day.

It was not the result United wanted but Arsenal will be happy with a point. Have a read of Phil McNulty's report from Old Trafford and stay across the BBC Sport website for more reaction.

Arsenal face Sunderland during the week, before the big finish next Sunday, where the remaining loose ends in the Premier League will be tied up.

    Thanks for joining us.

  2. Marauding Monreal

    Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal

A quick look at Arsenal full-back Nacho Monreal who was up and down that left flank for Arsenal this afternoon. What an engine he has got..

  3. More manager reaction

    Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, speaking to BBC Sport: "I think David De Gea has a hamstring injury."

Asked if he could reassure United fans that De Gea would stay, amid interest from Real Madrid? "No, I cannot. But a transfer is a process, involving a player, a club and his present club. He has to choose. It's not easy to choose between two great clubs. He's Spanish and his girlfriend is Spanish, so we would be very happy if he stays."

Will he stay? "You never know."

  4. More manager reaction

    Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, speaking to BBC Sport: "It's the third goal in a row we have conceded that has been deflected. That's unlucky, but you can force the luck. I believe that Arsenal are maybe the best team in the league but Chelsea can finish a game.

"We were better than our opponents for one hour, and we led one-zero, but we have to finish the game. Chelsea can finish the game. We have to improve in this respect for next season.

"When you see the results we've had against the other top-six sides, they are not so bad. It's against the little clubs, who fight, defend and park the bus, that we have to be cleverer. That is what has made the difference for Chelsea this season."

  5. Post update

    Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal

Goalkeeper David De Gea might even have played his last game for Manchester United, as it looks like he has suffered a hamstring injury. Could that scupper a move to Real Madrid in the medical? United will be hoping that is the case.

  6. Manager reaction

    Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal: "You can say we are unlucky because it is the third deflected goal in a row and falls in our net. But I have said it is not unlucky to the players. You have to force luck by finishing games. We are one hour better and 1-0 ahead. You see Arsenal want to come back so you have to stick together and be compact.

"I have said Arsenal have maybe the best team but Chelsea can finish the game, which Arsenal cannot do and we can't either. That is important. This season we have only finished two games. It is a pity."

On playing a qualifying round for the Champions League: "We have not yet qualified for Champions League. It is always stressful as you can meet opponent who is halfway through a season already. It is not so easy. I am satisfied we have set our goal and reached that. From what I have seen of the fans they are pleased. But I want more as manager. Next year we will fight for more."

On David De Gea: "The same thing as I have always said. It is a process for David De Gea. He will not leave us easily as we have a great club and he wants to participate. But he is Spanish. And he could go to a great club. It is difficult for him to decide."

Stephen Flanagan: The fact Arsenal played so badly today and still took a point should worry United. Quality still lacking all over the pitch!

  8. Post update

    Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal

Speculation about the future of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, but manager Louis van Gaal is adamant he "won't be leaving easily because it is a difficult decision for him."

Interesting. Looks like United will dig their heels in.

  9. Vote result

We've been asking you all afternoon who will finish higher next season out of these two teams.

The vote is now closed - and the result was as close as the match itself, with 54.9% of you saying the Gunners will edge United.

  11. Manager reaction

    Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: "They started stronger than us. We were not totally in there but in the second half we dominated completely. Unfortunately we couldn't score a second goal but the chances were there."

On Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott returning from injury: "Jack is now back to a better level. Theo as well. When they score goals that is a sign. We have a big squad and we are competitive. It was important to bounce back from defeat by Swansea and finish well."

On this season: "It is important for us, compared to last season, to exist in the big games. I think we've done that. We were slow to start this season but I think we've made progress. We want to secure second or third and start on the front foot next season."

On the FA Cup final: "It is a performance on the day in a final. It is always 50/50 but we want to turn up and give everything to win. We have learned form last year and we have shown that."

  12. United connection

    Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal

The passing pattern was evident to see and it shows in the stats. Marouane Fellaini gave the ball to Ashley Young 14 times, the same number Antonio Valencia popped it off to Juan Mata. Will Valencia still be holding that position next season though? There's talk of Louis van Gaal bringing in Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton.

Manchester United winger Ashley Young: "You saw the players at the end, we let it slip and let Arsenal back into it. We looked comfortable.

"I am delighted with my own performance but it is about the team and we showed spirit.

"I am happy with how things have gone but we would like to have gone out with a win. I am doing well for the team, getting assists and goals and delighted the manager has shown faith in me."

"I am happy with my development. I have to keep improving. My first season at a big club and I have played lots of games and scored goals. I want to be as good as possible.

"I knew it wasn't going to be easy. When you arrive at a massive club it is not easy but I am happy and looking forward to next season. I want to be a champion here."

    ANOTHER?? NO!

Olivier Giroud flicks an effort at the front post, and half the United crowd think it's in, but the ball hits the side netting. Oh so close. He could not have done more.

  50. GOAL

Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal - Tyler Blackett OG

    Walcott shoots

Oh dear. On first look it seems like a bad error from Victor Valdes on his debut..

..but Theo Walcott won't mind. He weaves in and out of Tyler Blackett, before attempting to fire low across goal. The ball diverts drastically off the United man and sneaks in at the front post. Valdes, wrongfooted, was heading the other way.

Arsenal barely deserve that, but I did say it was coming the longer the game went on.

Man Utd v Arsenal (16:00 BST)

    MOTD2 Extra

    BBC One

With Manchester United hosting Arsenal this afternoon, we asked Stoke's Jon Walters, studio guest for MOTD2 Extra, if the Red Devils are set to make a concerted title bid next season?

"I don't see why not. Louis van Gaal's aim was to be in the top four and I am pretty sure there is going to be a lot of backing for him money-wise this summer with a few more key signings.

"He has got the basis of the team that he wants and he will be putting his stamp on it. He will be wanting to push on, go for the league, whether he will be close enough I am not sure because Chelsea and Manchester City will make it tough for them. But, I expect them to make a big bid."

Bristol Rovers 1-1 Grimsby (AET) (5-3 on penalties)

Bristol Rovers are back in the Football League after a season's absence. Rovers and Grimsby couldn't be separated after 120 minutes, but a penalty shootout has given them an emotional victory.

After five successful spot-kicks to give Rovers a 3-2 lead, Grimsby sub Jon-Paul Pittman blazed over the bar. After two more converted kicks, Lee Mansell sealed Rovers' promotion with a cool finish past James McKeown.

Joy for the Pirates, but heartache for the Mariners.

Whoever finishes fourth - looking like the Red Devils at the moment - will have to contest a two-legged play-off round in August.

A top-four finish may be seen as a return to Europe's elite, but there's still another opponent to negotiate past before getting back with the big boys.

Yes, these two sides once had a fierce rivalry where hatred was widespread. Their standing at the top of English football meant the Premier League trophy was frequently exchanged between Old Trafford and Highbury.

Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira knocked seven bells out of each other, Gary Neville once kicked Jose Reyes off the park, but the fight between the two sides has now disappeared, it's a more timid affair.

Titles used to be the top prize, but the top four is the real trophy now. Without even kicking a ball today, both sides have already guaranteed themselves that achievement.
